Here we are showcasing a beautifull & traditional hand-carved wooden statue of goddess Amman (gramathu devathai) by Stapathi Swaminathan from Swamy carvings. This is incredibly amazing. I love this video. I lived years ago in South India in a village near to kumbakonam. There were so many artists and Craftsman there with the Indian School of Arts and Crafts. I used to love going and watching people work. Also nearby was a city called Swamimalai where they did so many beautiful bronze making of statues. I will never forget the years that I lived in Kabisthalam. I would love to return again. At 72 years old it has been fifty years since I lived there. Love, peace, and health to all of you from Tennessee in the USA. I am still in contact daily with my host family in Kabisthalam.

I want to ask A question why all sculptures have closed eyes. Recently visit Goa and I observed all sculptures carved from coconut wood have closed eyes.

Usually hindu deities(stone/wood) have closed eyes before you purchase, once you are ready to purchase they will work on eyes and perform pooja and give it to you, because sculptors use legs for grip during carving since closed eyed sculpture is seen as material rather than a deity( which has life or something like pranaprathista) once they work on eyes and give it you, you have to perform pooja. Open eyed sculptures are also available in many areas where they perform pooja even before you purchase.
