Thank you Ashley for your videos they have helped,me so much. I use to steer by looking over the bonnet and not follow the kerb round into a new road

I have my test on Friday so nervous! But I've been taught to get my mirror on the centre line, this has helped me with looking where I'm going at junctions and avoid cutting up corners.

Unthinkable it is the pupils that think that making a turn they think they are going to either block the other driver's or maybe cause other types of confusion to them. ( Maybe a bit of road rage) So, this causing the pupils to be a bit on the nervous side. Obviously the instructor is not only there to teach them how to drive but, also to do it with confidence. This being quite common with some new learners. I have seen quite a few learners about & most seem to do very well. But, there has been the odd few that have done a few mistakes & worst of them have been at very junctions. This can obviously make a pupil very unervered & unsettled. Your way of teaching ( what i have seen so far quite a lot of them) is very good in not only teaching but, also trying to keep them calm. Which can be a problem not only for the pupil but, other road users aswell. NICE ONE! 👍 & I see even though you have passed your test ( some years back 😀) you still don't cross your hands when making a turn ( left or right) which seems to be done by just about everyone else that as soon as they pass they do it. But, it's one of those things that just keeps happening I suppose.😒

Surely the hands follow the eyes especially when turning

Your steering is absolutely beautiful. I wish my fellow young drivers would admire people like you instead of the idiots at car throttle who say "milking the wheel" is inefficient and dangerous.
@handsoffmycactus29585 жыл бұрын
Steven Hicken Jr Pedal Steel Guitar it’s painful to watch. It’s silly to steer like that. It is inefficient, dangerous and we are the only country that teaches it. How can they be wrong and we be right ???

@@handsoffmycactus2958 Dude, it's getting the job done and the turns are smooth. You can go on and hate it all you want, but if it works for someone else, leave them be unless it is illegal.

@Kyle If you are in control of the car, it literally does not matter. If you are in control, there is no danger.

I get it, now. This has helped so much. I guess in a way this is what my instructor was saying, you just explain it better and it good to see it visually. Thank you.

Passed my driving test and I still struggle with this I try to do what Ashley says but the fear of hitting the car or thing in front when taking my eyes off it is overwhelming

That's sound advice, but... I was first car at traffic light going right and didn't notice a bicycle trying to cross on red from left. He luckily stopped on time, but I felt bad because I failed driving defensive.

Hi Ashley, what camera are you using to get the ‘cockpit’ view when you are demonstrating your steering method?

Good video. Thumbs up mate.

Sorry to ask 3rd exite on the roundabout is it not right turn?Why here it's left?Or because it's spiral roundabout?
@cinimod10776 жыл бұрын
Hanna S in the video it's clearly straight on so the person has gone in to middle (straight on) lane before round a bout
@d1oftwins6 жыл бұрын
Ashley, I am pretty curious, with the initial shot from the middle rear seat view are you using a camera gimbal with active stabilization. Seems pretty much like it considering the camera stays pretty much straight while I see the car tilting up and down.
@ashley_neal6 жыл бұрын
Spot on about the stabilisation. I use the Sony FDR x3000 which has internal stabilisation
@d1oftwins6 жыл бұрын
The stabilization is to impressive to not notice. Good choice of equipment to shoot from inside a driving car. Thanks for the answer.

hi , I have a right - left confusion. I know where i wanna go but when someone tells me go right or left it took me a while to think where is my right and where is my left any idea how to solve this prob so I can pass my road test at least

I have the same problem. I'm trying to repeat my instructor's instruction. He says left, I repeat it and I find that helps a tad. He's also been trying to renforce his instruction with hand gestures, but if I'm looking the other way that doesn't always help
@Eric_Hunt1949 ай бұрын
I had the same problem when I was learning, and even when I'm a passenger and giving directions I sometimes say left when I mean right and vice-versa. At the time my instructor told me that as long as I performed the manoeuvres safely, an examiner wouldn't fail me simply for not following his directions- though this was over twenty years ago and AIUI following directions is now part of the test. Thankfully I managed to get to grips with it before my test and passed first time, but I still annoy my partner with bad navigation!

Hi Ashley, I'm an ADI over here in Ireland. At the end of your video you say your pupil is about to fail their test. Was it a mock test you were conducting or an actual test? Are you allowed recording devices on real tests in the UK?
@ashley_neal6 жыл бұрын
Dash cams are allowed as long as the sound is turned off. Thanks for watching, Ashley

Hey do you drive a manual transmission or automatic?
@MattysCars6 жыл бұрын
Matt Spieth Automatic. I was wanting lessons off him but Ashley in particular I was told only teaches automatic
@mattspieth49456 жыл бұрын
Matty's Cars manuals are so much better.
@sanaypatel51166 жыл бұрын
not really automatic has its advantages as well
@mattspieth49456 жыл бұрын
Sanay Patel yes for people with medical condition or older people but I believe most young people should pass their test in manual transmissions .
@MattysCars6 жыл бұрын
Sanay Patel Yeah but you can't drive a manual unless you have a separate licence to drive manuals.

The tendency to steer across a bend is because the driver is looking for the way ahead. What I always say is, to look where you are driving, and not to drive where you are looking! In other words follow the centre line.

The test example what should pupil do if miss up? Could they of redeem self?
@Bea016 жыл бұрын
I think to redeem themselves, they could of done a round robin (Gone fully around the roundabout) and changed lanes to the correct lane. I know this is the case down near me anyway.

You’re a good instructor but it’s painful to watch you steer like that. I wish I was never taught to steer in this fashion because until I started steering normally, in a more relaxed approach, I wasn’t able to engage with the car and actually focus on the actual road.
