The Mongols were famous for their ability to move fast and strike with surprise. Fully-armored Mongol cavalry were an integral part of the Mongol war machine, and armed with a lance and mace, they acted as the hammer in any battle. Their armor, too, was robust, lightweight, and extremely easy to repair. The Mongol heavy cavalry were a powerful and brutal force designed to enter into the heat of any fight and emerge as victors. #AgeofEmpiesIV #Age4ward

Great choice, since the Mongolian heavy cav are often overshadowed by their famed light horse archers. Fact is, the brilliant tactical maneuvers and skirmishing capabilities of the Mongols won't be as potent without some raw shock power to capitalize their advantages.

There are also accounts of them wearing Jurchen face armor and Khipchak Masks though it could be Khipchak warriors riding with the mongol units since the Khipchaks are also skilled Calvary men especially Kublai Khans personal guard of made up of both mongols and Cuman Khipchaks And Alans

Yeah, you can't just raid and skirmish against armored opponents forever. The lack of organization you create in fast, 'blitzkrieg' like attacks, needs to be capitalized by raw power.

Similar principle to artillery in modern wars. You can use as much artillery as you want, but it’s mostly to soften up the enemy so that you can actually charge in with your mechanized and infantry groups with less resistance.

The food at that time was few, in comparison to our american way of life, with huge portions every 3 hour. People at that time were very tiny. If you see a bed or a door at castles, I might say people were 5 feet tall. So a pony is a good war partner.
@DarkoTrpevski
@DarkoTrpevski 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexschaeller8881 It's not about the food, the horses on the Mongolian tundra were of a different breed than that of the American plains. They were much closely related to the horses of the Arabian peninsula with which they interbreeded. They were small but boy they were fast and as durable as mules are. On the other note most Asian people are much smaller than the rest of us, and it's true that they rationed while they were on the move, but when they conquered big cities or territories the feasts would last days or weeks, so its not like they were short on food either. On a famous note on the sacking of Khwarezmia, they allegedly piled mountains of cats, mountains of dogs, of man, woman and children. They were tidy that way :).

I would say the horse was also armored with lamellar. It was crucial to penetrate shield walls or to protect the horse from arrows or any ranged projectile. Another crucial element is the eye patch. It blinded the horse's vision and allowed them to take full speed to crush enemy lines without any fear or losing speed. Its pure inertia would break enemy lines and discipline causing chaos to their enemies and allow light horse archers to support from the flanks while Heavy cavalry takes all the focus.

Regarding shoting an arrow from horseback: There were two ways to do it, either while the horse is standing still or during movemt. The second one is the more interesting. During movement, especially fast movement, they had to release the arrow when all 4 hoofs are up in the air, not touching the ground. If they didn't they would risk potential heavy injuries from the draw back power to themself and the horse. To be able to do this you have to train with your horse from early days on. They usually started it with the age of 4 and had to become one witht their animal. The best cavalry archers were so skilled that they could shoot through the eye holes in an enemy helmet up to 150m away, while the horse was galloping full speed.

Very nice content, but a little correction here, the Mongols didn't hold their lance like that during the charge, that is a couched-lance stance, practiced by the Medieval European, outside Europe (specifically Asia), lancer cavarly would rather use both hand to hold their lance during the charge not place them under the armpit.
