This was so helpful. Thank you! I appreciated the tip about considering in advance whether or not artwork will be hung on the walls next to the window, and adjusting the width of the rod/curtains accordingly.

Glad it was helpful! So often we just need the window covered for privacy and pick up the most convenient materials, toss 'em up, and they stay in place until we move out without us ever realizing that was why we never loved a room. A little attention to detail and patience on materials can transform a space. People always say paint is the biggest quickest change you can make, but often I find it's draperies that do it for me.🥳

OMG!!! I have been waiting for this video since I saw your New Home Tour and you have the exact type of windows that I do in my home (those pesky side sliders and the big picture window). I have been struggling to decide how to style them, the house came with blinds (small windows with reg. blinds, and vertical on the picture window). So ready to change them out! Thank you so much. I love your channel! Oh and if you have any thoughts on black-out curtains and for a kitchen window above the sink that would be awesome. Love me some privacy, lol.

Hey, Mary! Thank you so much! I'm so glad you saw a bit of your home in mine and we can share tips and ideas 💡 here. Our house came with old, desperately needing to be replaced mini-blinds, and I'm slowly reimagining each space. I'm on the hunt for the perfect blackout curtains for a few spaces and will make sure to share them here when I do. 😊

Great information. I greatly appreciate it. I was getting a bit overwhelmed with trying to figure out how many inches from the top or bottom…which one to do. You said up to 3 inches from the top but a company I love said 4 inches from the top of the window. Man can this be overwhelming at times.

It's funny how different people perceive visual space. Color and pattern along with room elements often influences the appearance of curtains. I see more often installed way too high (long windows with poles up at the celling) it looks plain weird. Formal panels work longer. Tailored can be any length.
@LindsayLiving

I give my best advice here, but when it comes to design it's all entirely subjective. What's pleasing to you may not be pleasing to others and vice-versa. That's why my mantra is "Create a Home YOU Love". Make it yours. 🌺

I use gold rods with matching colored rings. That way I can slide my panels open and close easily. Now I need to get a double rod for my new home to put sheers underneath. I was wondering is there a ride or if you change your mind and want to remove the sheers, is there a certain Rod which allows you to remove the underneath rod if you change your mind about putting shears up?
@LindsayLiving
@LindsayLiving 7 ай бұрын
Yes, there are certain double rods available in the market that allow you to remove the underneath rod if you change your mind about putting sheers up. The one I linked in the description of this video and used in my living room is like that. It would sit farther out from the window, but should still work without sheers and the rod will come out easily. It's always good to have options when it comes to decorating your home!

What would u suggest? I live in Vegas , so u gotta know it’s disgustingly HOT & in the summer we are looking at around 117, and just so happens my one big window in my now downsized one bedroom condo is the sliding glass door that faces the sun in the morning AND ITS STILL SHINING on that side right into my sliding glass door /window when the sun is going down !!! It heats my place up like an oven ! So, with that being my only light source ( accept n my bedroom of course )I’ve had to make a choice . Hot condo that’s nice and bright or much more comfortable and not so hot but DARK from my black out curtains which truly has made such a difference as far as the temperature goes , BUTTTT now my place looks like the inside of a dark movie theatre 🎭😂 LOLOL!! ---MY QUESTION IS HOW AND WHAT CAN I DO to block out the sun to keep my place from baking me like an overdone dominos pizza 🍕 and still let the light in ? What can I do to draw the curtains when the sun is really beating in but be able to pull them back and yet still have curtains that will let light in but peeping Tom’s and every neighbor walking by with their dog , oops I mean kid isn’t looking in being NOSY ?!! ( I’m really just joking !! I absolutely love children !! 😂 I’m guessing two sets of curtains?! Idk! But sheer would be der thru ANDDD How would i do that if THat is your suggestion ? Do I need to separate rods? I hope u answer this question. Even tho I am being silly but I am totally serious !THANK YOU !!
@LindsayLiving
@LindsayLiving 10 ай бұрын
Control the lighting through lamps placed around the room at varying heights. Black out curtains with a layer of shears underneath will give you options to cool your place down during times of direct sunlight and when light filtering when the sun is out of view. If you rewatch this video you'll see I installed a double curtain rod in my living room that would allow you to hang two sets of curtains. Wood blinds positioned open yet upward would also allow light in while filtering it up to the ceiling so it doesn't shoot you in the eye at peak times. Good luck - you got this!! 😊🌺

Your video was so helpful! What diameter rods do you recommend ?
@LindsayLiving
@LindsayLiving 6 ай бұрын
I'm glad you found the video helpful! Rod diameter is purely personal preference, and can be heavily influenced by your decor style. In this video I'm using 1.25" diameter. I generally stick to 1-2". If you're using curtain rings ensure you order the corresponding size. Happy curtain hanging!

In our apartment there’s more wall space *above* the windows than beneath 🤷‍♀️ -when I’ve tried curtains hung close the ceiling it looks sooo dorky!
@LindsayLiving
@LindsayLiving 9 ай бұрын
Every space is different and it goes without saying you should do what you like in your home! That said generally speaking the space above the window doesn't matter. The higher you hang the curtain rod the taller the room will feel. See this photo for reference: www.pinterest.com/pin/308144799519711655/

Can you advise on how to hang window treatments on bay windows?
@LindsayLiving
@LindsayLiving 3 жыл бұрын
A lot of companies make drapery rods that go around the corner specifically for bay windows. That’s probably what I would go for. Another option would be inside mount Roman shades which would be really beautiful too!

Loved this video! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm going to order the Lantime curtains but I'm having trouble with the colors. I'm deciding between beige or light brown. My walls are BM Edgecomb Gray, which I think is similar to your office wall color. Do you have any suggestion? Thank you!🥰
@LindsayLiving
@LindsayLiving Жыл бұрын
I went with beige in the office and light brown in our den. (video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/etOXoKhqq7Gzipc.html) You'll notice the beige is so much softer and works well with the paint color - no contrast. The light brown is much deeper toned and creates a lot more contrast against the white walls (BM chantilly lace). The color choice in your room depends on what your goals are.

hello.. firstly sorry if my english is so bad.. hard to get reply when im commenting, but i really need help..i have alot of space between window frame and the ceiling which is 47inch. if i go full height curtain , there will be too much empty space between frame and curtain rod. its ok or kinda weird? or if i go 10inch from the frame.. is it ok to the empty space between the rod and the ceiling which is goin to be 37inch? watch alot of video but cant really find the answer. really hoping for ur opinion🙏🏻 im stuck 😩
@LindsayLiving
@LindsayLiving 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for reaching out! It can be tricky to find the right balance when it comes to curtain placement. In your case, if you go for a full height curtain, the empty space between the frame and the rod might look a bit off. However, if you go 10 inches from the frame, the empty space between the rod and the ceiling might also not look ideal. It ultimately depends on the overall aesthetic you're going for. You could consider adding some decorative elements like a valance or a pelmet to fill the space and create a more cohesive look. Experimenting and finding what works best for your space is key!

My ceilings are 8 foot tall, so would it be okay for me to put the curtain rod high enough for the curtains to ALMOST touch the ceiling. I bought 95” blackout curtains on Amazon and my ceiling is 96” tall. Otherwise, I guess I could have them hemmed if needed. As a single dude I just didn’t want to spend a ton of money for custom curtains.
@LindsayLiving
@LindsayLiving 7 ай бұрын
Absolutely! In a home without crown molding (like our home shown in this video) I generally measure 2-3 inches from the ceiling to hang my curtain rods. Everyone has a different preference when it comes to curtain length, but I like mine to just "kiss the floor" meaning just barely touch or float just above for easy opening and closing, plus they hang straight without a break. You can totally make yours work as is or you could easily have them hemmed for a custom look without the custom cost. I'm going to make a video on how to hem curtains very soon, too, and it's a lot simpler than you might think.
