AT LAST......here it is..."THE MOST ORIGINAL, AMAZING INSTRUMENTAL EVER RELEASED" according to the UK Sounds magazine. The ORIGINAL and OFFICIAL UK Sonet video release of "SPINNIN' ROCK BOOGIE", filmed in U.K. (Southend On Sea) in late '76 and broadcasted on just about every TV Station throughout Europe at the time. Even the rather strict UK Melody Maker weekly went bananas and called me (quote): "A MAD GENIUS MOVING HIS GUITAR FINGERS AT FASTER-THAN-LIGHT-SPEED"! Not to mention UK Country Music Review who came up with (quote): "ONE OF THE MOST INTRIGUING MUSICIANS IN THE WORLD TODAY"! And even the legendary SUN label in USA released it on a nation wide level on Gold vinyl (the 2nd record ever to be released in Gold after Elvis! There was, in fact, only one pressing plant in the world at the time that was able to press records in Gold and it was located in Philadelphia!). It was also inducted into the 'Guiness Book Of Records'!! And Sonet even had to use three pressing plants to keep up with the tremendous demand! And all of this caused by a track that was recorded in my parents makeshift garage using a battered old Tandberg reel-to-reel machine, a 1960 Hagström 'plank', a 1965 Supro Lapsteel and a cheap German made Lefima snare drum with an attached cymbal the size of a normal dinner plate...good grief, those surely were the days!!!! Some 'cult facts' that might interest you:
The 'scream' in the intro is aptly carried out by none other than SUN rockabilly wild man Sonny Burgess! And the short sax riff towards the middle is handled by one of Europe's most prolific jazz musicians ever, Arne Domnérus (sadly no longer with us)! And, while I'm at it...the correct wording of the short spoken line at the end is: 'Can't stop, keep rockin', CAT' and not 'KID' as some have interpreted it! In fact, you're not alone as even Sonet themselves used the wrong spelling in one of their many PR flyers! Blame it on my 'sultry' English prononciation, lol!! But the most revealing and unknown secret is possibly the creation of the title itself. I'm almost embarrased to admit this but I simply 'nicked it' from an old '50s MGM single by Mickey 'Guitar' Baker (of Mickey & Sylvia fame, plus a 1st class studio musician!). Same title, yes, but totally different approaches, so no harm done, I hope? And if so, I plead guilty of all charges involved, lol! The original full length version was cut as far back as in January '71 and 1st released on the US Seagull label out of Nashville, Tenn. the same year. 3 years later it was included as part of a 14 track LP compilation on the UK Southern Sound label titled..."SPINNIN' ROCK BOOGIE". After signing up with the Sonet label in late '74, I had to edit it down app. 1 minute, to better suite a 45 rpm format and in the progress I also totally revitalised the intro. It was this version that eventually upon its release two years later, both as a single and as part of the "Don't Mess With My Ducktail" album, would become the official Hit version, selling a staggering 8 million+ copies world wide, resulting in not only a Gold record but a PLATINUM one as well and eventually getting it leased to a myriad of different labels all over the globe, incl. Columbia (Germany), Metronome (France), Wizard (Australia) and the legendary SUN label in the USA (the only European artist that's had a release on this the Godfather of rock'n roll labels!!), to name but a very few! Not bad for a track that was cut just because I happened to have some spare tape left on a 7" spool which I didn't at first know what to do with!! Those were indeed the days of creativity and imaginative inventions!!
Happy listening (and watching!) y'all...

Remember this well as a 13 year old kid just becoming aware of Rockabilly. This record was released just at the right time when a load of youngsters were looking at 50's music. I used to be able to bop all the way through this record and not be out of breath lol

Oh my goodness I’m in this footage at 1.43, our burgers were paid for and we had to walk up the vendor and take the burger and bite into it. I can’t believe I’ve found this. I’ve tried to trace it all my adult life. It’s a bit short and sweet but managed to screenshot the still when I finally paused it after about 20 attempts. Thanks so much for sharing, it’s made my day!

If memory serves me right, this video clip was originally shown on the BBC's "Multi coloured swap shop" They ran an item about all the custom cars attending the monthly Chelsea cruise. Those were the days when cars were individualized by petrolheads with imagination unlike the mass produced tin can's that are made today. Still got my vinyl single of this as well. Brilliant.

Hi Stevie and thanks for the flattering remarks! Yes, every note you hear on this piece was played at the 'correct' speed, no hokey pokey whatsoever! Cut on an old beat up Tandberg reel-to-reel recorder using only a 1960 made Hagström 'plank' and a 1966 made cheap Supro Comet lap steel, plus a single German made snare drum...and that's it! Recorded in my parents makeshift garage way back in early 1971...those were the days!

Hiya mate!! Yep, I got the clip from Top Of The Pops and has posted it a few times on my FB wall!! Thanks so VERY MUCH for informing me, I didn't have a clue about this since none of the UK Sonet people bothered to tell me about it, for some obscure reason! Anyway, even though the clip is cut off at the beginning, it's real nice to get to know that it existed!!

This track is the reason i blew my Escort gt motor back in the 70's to a full race ford anglia. I forgive you as the track is still epic in 2023😅👍

Sorry 'bout messing up your Escort, buddy 🤣, hope you'll get over it in due course. Just kiddin', comments like these always shows that I'm on to something good and that's definitely one part of why I keep this 'racket' up the way I do, cause I love it! Take care and all the very best to you and yours 👍

P.S. I must've misunderstood you completely if I've promised you this video you're refering to and I'm sorry about that! I sure would like to see it myself and I can't for the life of me understand why the UK Sonet people didn't even bother to let me know that there was TWO different videos broadcasted at the same time...very strange indeed!! If you ever happen to stumble upon this Lone Ranger clip, PLEASE let me know, thanks a lot!!

Hi! To be quite frank with you, I've never seen the video clip you're refering to and much less have it in my possession! I havn't got the slightest idea about it, cause Sonet never sent me a copy of it! In fact, the video I've uploaded here I got from a friend who used to run a record co. here in Sweden in the '80s (Jukebox Records) and before that the only time I ever saw it was on a Xmas TV program here in Sweden in '76! Sorry, mate & if I promised you a copy of it I'm even more sorry!!

'...dreadful crashing and banging in the background'?????????? Have you read the INFO?? Obviously not!! And if you can't stand rock'n roll at its outmost best (READ THE INFO, SONNY BOY!!), go ahead and stick to what you apparently are more familiar with! I usually don't brag about myself, but for cryin' out loud, this humble effort has sold more than 8 million copies & was feat. on the US SUN label!! Not bad for a track cut in my parents makeshift garage, using equipment hardly worth the name!!
