As someone who values practicality and avoids vanity, I struggle with fashion. This video has completely shifted my view of getting dressed. If I start with how I feel/practical parameters (OR SHOES!!!) I can dress for myself without feeling like I'm using fashion as a facade. THANK YOU!!!!!!

I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I read your comment and wanted to answer. I consider practical matters TOO much. So much that THAT is why I use forever getting dressed.🙈 Too practical.
@bianca5873

That sounds like imposter syndrome… beauty is not vanity so long as it is not the only thing you pride yourself on. Beautiful and vapid with no love in your heart for anything or anyone other than yourself… that to me is vanity.
@jeanetteg83
@jeanetteg83 Жыл бұрын
Was that an answer to me? I might have phrased myself badly. I just have trouble deciding because of sensory issues. Sorry if it came out wrong. My first language is not english, so I sometimes phrase myself badly. I don't really care what everyone else think about my clothes.

@@bianca5873Wow that's super interesting to hear you call that imposter syndrome. I want to dress well and look nice, and I sometimes buy feminine pieces or striking pieces. But when I put them on, it feels so wrong. I think it is like some kind of imposter syndrome. Like - no one would ever think of you as feminine, why are you even trying. But then when I try to wear androgynous or masculine styles, that feels unflattering and I feel invisible. I'm going to have to contemplate your comment. 🤔

The best thing I did was accept what my lifestyle actually was. I was no longer just me and able to primp to my 1950s chosen aesthetic anymore, I am a mother to a young disabled child and that’s a whole different physical level throughout the day than the standard. I still wanted to be in dresses all the time so I switched to oversized long sleeves and skirted dresses that are easy to throw on, feel immediately put together despite only having about two minutes to myself and if they get dirty I can slip off and change without my whole look being disjointed.

I've tried this (as a non morning person) I'm also a moody person and what seemed like a good idea the night before, isn't something that "feels right" in the morning. Edit: Usually I pick out at least 2 outfits the night before. Or at least, I try to do this to save time and aggrivation.

I was not sure I could relate to this video at the start. I am 53yrs old. I am so glad I kept watching. I have been a jeans and t-shirt girl my entire life. I am now attending church once a week. I would like to step it up a bit, but am not ready to go "dressy". I think this approach will work even as I shop for something to wear. It was very simple to understand-no color theory, or knowing which season you are, just 4 steps. I think even I can handle it. Thanks. I really am grateful for this advice.

Hannah, this is a brilliant process! I sat here watching in a stained old white tee and no shoes…. So I reverse engineered the process and diagnosed what my outfit says about me today. Adjective: lazy. Star: soft old striped knit maxi skirt. Balance? There ain’t none. So, no wonder I feel sad and lazy today. Gonna strip and reroll this day! Adjective: Transformation! Will see where that takes me! 🌞🌞🌞

I really appreciate your fashion content. We have drastically different bodies (I am short & fat, with a long torso) and the way you approach styling never feels exclusionary, or aimed at only one body type--it always feels intentional & thoughtful. You made a video a while back about a pair of jeans, and it completely shifted the way I was able to think about pants, as up until then I was convinced that "pants didn't work for me," when what was really happening was that I wasn't considering what I actually wanted & needed out of a pair of pants. A simple shift in my mindset, but so helpful!

Every Sunday, I chose everything I am going wear for the week. I make sure that everything is ironed, hemmed etc. My choices are based on my nail color (changed every week) so there is a color story. About to start the video. Hannah I completed a no buy year. Thank you for helping me from getting into debt over beautiful things. I had decided that when I made it I would buy a Polene bag. THE Polene bag. I fell in love with it the moment you showed it on video, and for year I told myself I couldn't afford it, while spending the same if not more than its price tag over smaller orders over the course of a single month. I found a used one (the person got it as a gift and didn't like it, they never used it), explained the situation and on October 1st I'm gonna get it. My first quality over quantity choice. I hope it's gonna be a lighthouse for my consumerism ship, guiding me. Thank you

One of my most popular recurring nightmares involves me not being able to choose what to wear. In the dream I always end up trying on my whole closet with a large pile of discarded clothes behind me and I always miss the event I was getting dressed for. Let's see if implementing these 4 steps in real life makes the dream nightmare of getting dressed subside lmao.

I love how intuitive this approach is. What a beautiful way to start the day! I live with chronic illness, and it can be really easy to avoid getting dressed at all. Often I find myself wearing my pajama bottoms with some sort of top. But I have so many beautiful clothes just hanging in my closet, waiting to be worn…I can’t even begin to declutter my closet because I no longer even know what I want to wear. I haven’t come across ANYTHING that has been as helpful as this video. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I actually feel inspired and motivated to dress myself tomorrow, focusing on how I feel in my clothes. I’m 58, or, as I like to say “nearly 60.” I’m a Kibbe “natural,” so I’ve chosen clothes that fit my body type in neutral colors with pops of color that change with the seasons. I thrift well-made clothing and shoes, filling in with occasional purchases. I may give a nod to current trends, though with fast fashion that’s hardly worth it. Wearing flattering, well-made clothing makes one feel good, and consequently look good.

It think it is so eye-opening mind-blowing to ask myself “how do I want to feel?” Instead of “how do I want to look?”

I love your advice! I have a relatively tailored "kibbe soft classic" wardrobe, so very different from your style but these four steps will work perfectly for me. So many fashion gurus have advice that only works for viewers with a similar style (i.e. minimalist, trendy, modest, etc). Thanks for giving us something that is so specific but can work for any style or body!! Love it

So excited for this video! I’m so tired of clothes I barely get dressed and it really affects what I do during the day - not dressed? There goes that walk or whatever else I wanted to do 😫

This was fantastic! Loved this video. I’ve done so much ‘curating’ but sometimes still feel so lost in my closet. I’m definitely gonna try this today. Thank you

I am new to your channel and I feel so relieved to have found you!! Fashion has always felt out of reach for me, but you make it sound practical. I realize this method is exactly how I already cook meals for myself, so I feel optimistic that it’ll work for my wardrobe. Thanks for being so kind and approachable with this topic!

Just discovered your channel. OMG, this video just blew my mind! Can’t wait to try your method this weekend. (I wear uniform during the work week, so not really any wardrobe decisions to be made on workdays.)

This is so helpful! You're right about figuring out how you want to feel! I know that is why I stand in my closet sifting through things endlessly. Knowing how you want to feel gives you a direct path to the "star" piece. SO HELPFUL!!

The how I want to feel explains why on the days I wear my maxi dress even to just go round the house I feel more put together and confident than a T-shirt and leggings.

Hi Hanah, I'm a new subscriber. I love how you break it down since I'm still struggling to curate my wardrobe. Especially throwing the fantasy self wardrobe. Living in the tropics & mostly commuting by motorcycle, I realize I don't have the wardrobe for that. I'm trying to balance between practicality & still being myself.

I love how you're branching out and the overall filming and editing of this video was too notch. I'm so happy your channel is slowly getting the recognition it deserves and can't wait to see what else you'll do. I would like a video on how to discover brands you love that are high quality and how to hunt on Poshmark (and similar platforms). You always find the most interesting stuff and I wonder how you do it!

I am obsessed with this video. Like, going to write down these 4 steps and stick them on my closet door. Thank you so much for sharing. Ps. I'd love to see a video talking more about finding actual holes in your wardrobe. (I think you may have mentioned it in the minimalism video.)

I just found your channel and started subscribing. I so LIKE your focus on practicality and choosing an aesthetic that makes sense in the context of what I do. It´s rare to find a fashion consultant not overly focused on flattering shape only. I just realized I´d rather dress myself a relatively slim "apple" than a wide and lumpy "pear", for reasons of comfort and practicality. 😄

😊While I admire a wide spectrum of stylists & sewists, I've known that copying their style is NOT the answer. Doing that would likely feel costumey, contrived, & inauthentic〰️not to mention highly unflattering & even uncomfortable in some cases😂. Various style aesthetics can strike me as highly appealing & attractive👍, however I am grounded in reality🤣. I am hyper-aware of all my personal idiosyncrasies & practical considerations (body shape, dismorphia😔, hormonal/ tactile/sensory issues, health challenges, climate🏜, lifestyle, feelings, self-esteem, etc.😖) that all dictate why something would or wouldn't work for me. I can't separate myself from all these important influences. 🤔Hannah's approach is very thoughtful, intentional, & 💪empowering. Giving us plenty of room to establish our own unique style. Love that she 💯% gets the importance of practicality. There's no coercion, pressure, or shame in her game for our 👀focusing on these real factors. Her suggestion we start building our outfits with our shoes is quite smart. She also fully embraces the emotional component that clothing can inspire in us. She gets that even under the umbrella☂️ of "polished casual," it's still possible to have different levels 📈 of formality. 👏🏻 It's one thing to follow a formula in order to look our best, she wants us to feel our best too 🎉. She validates our own personal assessments & analysis. 😉That carries a lot of weight in my book 📖 . 🎪 Love drama & theatrical extremes, but I don't want to be the center of attention😳. Prefer a more subtle & balanced ⚖️ approach to fashion. Contrast can definitely add important visual interest, but cohesiveness is also key. 🛑 Biggest life lesson is to stop idealizing taller, ultra thin, & straight shaped ⏸️, athletic Amazonian goddesses🙄. All the 🍽 dieting in the whole world 🌎 won't change my extreme "X" proportions. 🤫Lower BMI simply means I have less "sand" in my hourglass⏳️. Otherwise, I have clearly defined curves & muscles. As a result, I will always feel the need to employ those tried & true visual rules in order to ➡️slim⬅️ & elongate ↕️ my feminine frame . 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

I try to pick out my outfits the night before, usually I plan at least a few days in a row.. I look up the weather for the week, plan my outfits then from there I coordinate my hair and makeup. It makes it more fun to pick out clothes in the evening without the pressure of needing to watch the clock for work.. I also tend to come up with more creative combos because I'm not stressed AND I have more time to actually try things on to make sure it all gels (sometimes outfits can look great on the hanger but not so much on me.. and sometimes I can be hesitant about an outfit but then try it on and love it.)
