I do a version of this as my "My brain is not fully there but I need to go to work" look. I don't own turtlenecks (living in the tropics and all) but I have two black tops that work for this. My hair cannot be slicked back (very curly, currently fairly short) but I just pull half of it back with some black clips. Red or vampy lips and let's go and pretend I'm human for 9 hours.

I just left the father of my 4 year old, with whom I was for 7 years. It was a very unhealthy relationship and I'm relieved I finally did, but I feel so bad for my child. Wearing makeup everyday and choosing comfy but nice outfits has been key to feeling better, also because my son always tells me how good I look, so I have confirmation 😆 I'll get through it, confidence is going to be my strength, wherever I get it from.

People with anxiety/depression who must be functional people Stan you for this! ☺️ I once had one of my favorite teachers tell me to “fake it till ya make it” and I find that when I look better I begin feel better. It can be a struggle sometimes but *steps to follow* are a good coping mechanism. Luckily my hair is stick straight and I recently cut it into a bob so I can just throw dry shampoo in it and let it be most days and look fine.

Teacher navigating covid here! Even though it feels counter-culture in the alternative school where I teach Kindergarten, I have been leaning into wearing makeup on days when I feel crummy: concealer, a little bronzer, a lot of blush hehe, brow product, and curling my lashes. My mother taught me, when I was a young adult, that if you need to be on point for an important phone call, ALWAYS get dressed nice, do your hair and make up. Even though no one will see you over the phone, it makes you feel confident and puts you in the correct state of mind to be the best you can. Basically if you look good, you will feel good. It works too. Seems silly to put that work in for someone who won't see you but it's not for them, it's for you.

Ages ago I remember Dita Von Teese once said her ultimate beauty tip for 'running out the door' when you have no time or feel awful - is red lips and sunglasses, maybe a wide brimmed hat - so you can look like you are on a fancy vintage run to the beach or something.(She didn't phrase it that way - but it's what I imagine whenever it's warm or sunny enough to justify that lol - but I can use the turtle neck and create the 'winter' version haha )

Hannah this is the best video of this type I’ve ever seen! Everyone else does way too much in their versions. I think I may even use my health and safety exception to my no buy just to get a top that works for me in this situation. OMG I love this concept. This is the video I didn't know I needed! I would love to see more videos from you that are expanded on this idea. Such as a morning/evening/skincare routine when you're feeling awful and drained of energy, self care process, routine to follow to help boost your mood, or how you bring yourself to exercise or clean your home when you have low energy or don't feel capable, etc. This is the valuable and life relatable content that no one talks about, and it is times like this I feel so grateful for finding your channel! Today is a “going through the motions” day. I do not own (and frankly can’t stand) anything high necked. But 60% of my closet is black. While listening to this, I did an all black outfit, wash of color on the eyes with mascara, balmy lipstick and POWER CHEEK. All of the blush draping. Then the slicked back bun (something I never do) and bam. I’m ready for work. The perfect way to start a Monday

Wow, this is exactly my strategy, too, but I didn't even realize it! Thanks for making me realize it! Mostly I do add a comfortable earring (simple pearl, simple gold or silver or diamond stud, simple hoop, nothing too dangly/flittery). For me, this also works with a simple black long sleeve dress, because then I also eliminate the choice of which bottoms to combine with the top. This is a great video idea an I look forward to more in this series!

For someone who always does full face and would be uncomfortable leaving the house virtually bare faced (like myself), I’ve found the least fussy way to pull myself together that takes 2 seconds, is to , instead of moisturizer/ primer/ foundation/ concealer/ powder, just use a BB powder or powder foundation. It is so quick and it’s astonishing how much it hides. Ones that work well for me are Pur cosmetics powder foundation, gosh BB powder, and Mac powder foundation, though Pur has the best colour match for me.

Hannah I do this so often as a chronic migraine sufferer. Whenever I have to pick up my girls from school this is my staple look on such days. I also have very fair skin as yourself so a red lip has always brightened my complexion. But what I personally love is a red tinted lip balm. Its a quick, understated way to wear a red lip and does all the work for you already by being subtle and blurring. I always carry a red tinted lip balm in my purse for such occasions. I also love cushion foundations bc they’re so easy to apply. This video was so great! I’m looking forward to part two.

Fantastic video, Hannah! Very realistic and practical. I like how you call those steps a "strategy". The trick of the red lipstick I've been doing for years, it's so easy and quick and has a great impact. The slick hair I started doing a while ago and it's been a good discovery for those kind of days. However, I don't agree with the black turtleneck, it might look polish on other people but in my case, with black hair and pale skin, I look like the floating head of a ghost. So actually I only wear dark turtlenecks on days that I know I'm going to apply full makeup, otherwise, I prefer to stick to white sweaters, which make me feel more alive. Another good trick for me is to wear my big gold hoop earrings, they're always flattering and elevate any look. I'm very curious about part two of this video, looking forward to it!

Such a cool video! I immediately took off my headphones and slicked my hair back. and I do indeed feel much better. Assessing how I feel, a turtle neck would be too restricting and warm, so I actually put on a summer-y loose shirt and do feel more fresh and free. And I have a bright pink lip which makes me feel cool. I like the tip of using your natural blush as blush, eliminating both the steps of covering the cheeks with both foundation and blush

Ahh yes, the classic “feel icky today so I will get my hair off my face, put on something that is cozy and does not require many adjustments/isn’t finicky throughout the day, and use makeup to draw attention to a part of my face that makes me feel special & confident!” I usually put my hair into a ponytail (when my hair was super short I wore a cute flowery red bandana), put on a simple black crewneck sweatshirt with a long statement necklace to make the top more fancy, and put on either a sheer lip (so simple, can’t mess it up) and/or some shimmery bronze eyeshadow (a shade that matches my skin so it blends quickly and easily).

I do a version of this black top, pony tail hair, concealer face(Laurier merier normal for its thin texture/longevity) kitten flick eyeliner and matte crimson red(or high shine favorite gloss). It gets the point across in less steps.

Love this! My version: I have curly hair so a sleek pony tail is too much hassle with the frizziness. So, a loose updo with a very thin hair bandana (or extra long elastic hair band) at the front will do. My complexion product is westman atelier stuck foundation and the lip is Lisa Eldridge translucent hot red.

I’m a lot older than you and have done this look from time to time in the past but love the idea of having an ‘I feel terrible’ work uniform! As I’m in my late 40s I’m now veering more towards a white cotton poplin shirt for this kind of look - as long as it’s already ironed because no way am I ironing when I feel bad.

I don't even feel awful most of the time just lazy. I will definitely keep these tips in store to spruce myself up quickly in the future

Ah great video! I'm still very firmly in the mascara needed camp, and I might switch out the red for another vibrant colour like a pink or raspberry, and I don't own any turtleneck, and my hair is way too short to slick back, but the principles behind it are really useful. I know what you mean about sometimes not feeling up to deciding what to wear and having a go to look that is essentially doing the least to look polished is definitely a great idea. I'm looking forward to the next video in this series

Hi Hannah! I love this look on you!! It really does look amazing. My own version is similar, but I never wear foundation, so I do blush to make myself look alive, bronzer on my eyes instead of a real eyeshadow, and mascara. If I can summon the energy I'll do some brow gel or a brow powder, but it's not a must. Thanks so much for sharing! Maybe next time I'll try a bold lip instead and see how that makes me feel. I could potentially cut out a bunch of steps with this routine. Love you soo much!! ❤️❤️❤️

Great ideas for those days. It's like when you don't feel like doing anything, telling yourself you're only going to clean a corner of a room first is very helpful because then you have energy to do the rest of the room and on and on.
