We cannot even imagine the courage it must have taken to engage in battle in Hannibal's time. Generals fought along side their soldiers. Death came from a dagger, spear or sword or flying ball of fire or stone. Wounded soldiers were finished off after the battle by the winners. It must be beyond fascinating for the men and women of all countries who serve or who have served in the military to see the sculpted face of the world's greatest strategist and general come to life. What takes one's breath away is how young our heroes of the past look to us today. Those were the days when reaching 30 years old was greeted with cheers. Bravo Mr Constantinou, you are bringing the past into our homes like never before.

Thank you Mr Constantinou, for bringing our heroes and villains of the past into view as they would look today. We see normal looking human beings, to whom, because of their destiny and their place in history, have come down to us the real movers and shakers of our civlization millenia ago. How seeing these sculpted historical figures come to life, has suddenly made all of their deeds, and their wars, and their losses and successes become as real as the sun setting this evening.

@@Zakariya3603 Spencer Wells did not conduct his research on all the tombs and remains in Carthage, in addition, Carthage was inhabited by many peoples and people coming from different regions of North Africa and even Iberia, and not only the Phoenicians, but why do we say that Hannibal was most likely from Phoenician and not something else? Simply because his family and ancestors were from the elite or the oligarchs, most of these were the original Phoenicians or (Punic) who were ruling in Carthage and occupying leadership positions despite the fact that they are a minority! This type of system is called the rule of the minority, as most of the Carthaginian armies were mercenaries, but the leaders were from the elite and not from the Libyans or other peoples.

Hannibal comes off as more of that intellectual slightly sexy English college professor in some Midwest University who taught Senior English literature and who occasionally indulged in affairs with some of his female students. Nothing of the ferociousness and brutality that went along with the genius. But I guess the bust was drawn from a period in his life when he was "resting." LOL. Meaningless but still interesting fact: Thomas Harris named his famous creation Hannibal Lecter after the famous general after reading that while crossing the Alps, some of his starving, desperate troops engaged in cannibalism when they had nothing else to eat. Of course Hannibal did not allow them to eat the elephants, so men gotta do what men gotta do. LOL. So there's where you have that combination of genius and cannibalism that all of us know. Scipio looks like surprisingly like Napoleon. Maybe Napoleon was the reincarnation of Scipio??????? Hmmmm......... Antiochus looks like one of those vicars that pop up in a Jane Austen movie or novel. Only with a brutal sadistic streak. Wonder what would have happened if Hannibal had come up against Caesar, or even Sulla, who allegedly never lost a battle. Interesting to speculate about. Caesar would have beaten him, maybe......eventually? Sulla definitely? Who knows. LOL. Good job as always, Panagiotis.

Caesar would have had difficulty beating Hannibal, because Caesar was about using swift aggressive action, hitting people faster than they could prepare. He fell into Pompey's trap before Pharsalus because of this tendency. Hannibal, knew of such a tendency in Roman Generals. He would have tried to set traps for Caesar, who would have charged right into. I don't know enough about Sulla. Maybe only Scipio, who had the full measure if Hannibal, and knew his opponent, and possessed the necessary strategic genius to create a situation where he could decisively defeat the great Master of war Hannibal.

Have you ever tried to recreate the appearance of Achilles? That would be interesting to see, if possible. (edit - yes I realize he wasn't a confirmed historical figure)

You know deep in your heart he was in fact real, as all legendary hero's of the past are.

He is like Moses. Though Moses seems to be more possible as a real man (excluding the Bibilical details).

Definitely a Berber specimen, an Amazig, proud defensor of his people, if it wasn't for Africanus he would be the one I admire the most of his period.

@DonDoenerWetter Phoenicians had colonies even in Spain, the population varies from town to town, what you see living in the region today are Berbers, it tells you a lot about what could be the population.

@DonDoenerWetter although we have different approaches in respect of this subject is do celebrate an enthusiast who do tell the difference in origin between Lebanon and Berber people, now returning to our point, I know you do have valid reasons on why the colony of Carthage was Phoenician, as well as I do have reasons to believe the Carthageneans were by most account Berbers that were civilized by Phoenicians and other influences like Egypt.
