Highlights of the hard punching former undisputed Featherweight world champion. Saddler at his devastating best!
TikTok: / hanzagod_1
Sandy Saddler - Was an American professional boxer. He was a two-time featherweight world champion, having also held the super featherweight title. Over his twelve-year career (1944-56), Saddler scored 104 knockouts and was stopped only once himself, in his second professional fight, by Jock Leslie. In 2003, Saddler was ranked number five on The Ring magazine's list of "100 Greatest Punchers of All Time". His nephew is Grandmaster Flash. Saddler is best known for his four-bout series with Willie Pep. However, he had 93 fights prior to facing Pep.

The hardest punching Featherweight in boxing history! With over 100 KO's on his resume it's clear to see why Sandy Saddler is held in such high regard. His greatest victories came against his rival Willie Pep and although Pep gets talked about more often, Saddler actually won 3 out of their 4 fights. An incredible fighter and an absolute monster in his prime! www.patreon.com/haNZAgod

Sandy said he eventually refused to be introduced before the fights at MSG because announcer Johnny Addie who introduce Willy Pep as the “ great Willy Pep”, which indeed he was, and introduce Sandy as “ another former FW Sandy Saddler”. Sandy said this many times and the quote comes from the book In This Corner written by Peter Heller Published in 1973 The author interviews many former champions and many who were not champions. That guy is so awkward and fascinating. No matter how many times I watch him fight, I cant help but think he is an oddity. Extremly tall and muscular physic for his weight. Very weird movements, not very fluid, almost like a machine. Seems to not defend at all exept for that right hand catch and parry, yet I dont see him being hit so much usually. In fact, he looks like a mantis. It should have been his nickname, Joseph/Joey « the mantis » Saddler. I have the same opinion on Foster. Very unique fighter.

Notice how Saddler's right hand is "awkward" and that he does the lion's share of the fighting with his left? It's because he was really a lefty fighting out of the orthodox stance, so his strong hand was in front but when he clinched he reverted to being a southpaw, the angle change (and his height advantage) give him the appearance of super strength as the opponents have to readjust there angles in the heat of the clinch, like a little George Foreman (yeah, I know tthe connection🙂). Apparently Saddler was the inspiration for Bruce Lee's theory of fighting the strong hand forward and doing about 60+% of the work with it. Shame Saddler was so inconsistent throughout his prime, otherwise there would be no denying his place at the head of the FW ATG list.

Someone had the wonderful idea of bringing Sandy to do an exhibition fight against Alfredo Prada at the Luna Park stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
