*How to NOT hate happiness charge* Treat it like a comedy show bc this season was so ridiculous I enjoyed it way too much 😂😂😂

This season feels like a bit of a fever dream, but somehow a very entertaining and cute one

Omg...HIME WAS MORE MEMORABLE THAN MEGUMI it clicked in my head as to why i Remeber the blue cure more, do you think the writers were just to afraid to have the pink cure flawed?

Tbh for me... Happiness Charge wasn't really all that memorable, the only thing that had it going was the international precure, but even that was kind of lacking

This was the first Precure season I watched weekly, and I can't help but remember it fondly... in some parts. My favorite character was 100% Hime, as she had the most character development, not to mention an easy chemistry with Seiji, which I felt Megumi had not. The plot was also interesting, but like Mahou Tsukai and Star Twinkle, it felt they never took advantage of the large scope and it fell flat when THAT THING happened.

To be honest, I do have a special place for HapiCha in my heart. I might be frustrated for Megumi, Yuko and Iona and Hime was the only salvation to the team in terms of personalities and motives, but I won't lie when I say that HappinessCharge does not deserve all the hate that gets. It was a season that I really liked the toys (Do I have to mention that they sorta look like the Changers from Goseiger?), change forms, collectibles and designs. You may complain they look plain but when you have to design Pretty Cure for all the World, they are not so bad. Their fighting style was solid in an infinite number of episodes (compared to further seasons), animation was good in important occasions, New Stage 3 was the best of the saga and don't let me start on their fall movie, the villains aren't forgettable (wish Red and Mirage died for more impact though), Red was always present and didn't came up suddenly, the episode about Iona and Maria was neat, Phantom was a good villain and the concept of Pretty Cures around the world was exciting. Now the bad. The plot goes around "Everyone has to have their happiness", therefore, even as a scum as Red has to be purified. Blue, who caused all this shit has to be happy...because Lovely wants to. Phantom was a fairy. One of those ugly ladybug fairies that were so irrelevant the whole season: Ribbon only had one focus episode, Glassan was like a gag and ugh...Aloalo and Phantom were like on the sidelines. What's the point of having Cures around the world if you don't let the Cures beat Saiarks around the World instead of just freaking Pikarigaoka!? Characters like Seiji and Matsuko were wasted, I wanted them to be cures. Megumi never bothered me personally until episode 30 onward where everything was suddenly about her and her wish to make everyone happy. Iona was irrelevant after she brought back her sister, Yuko was never relevant and her relation to Phantom would have made more sense with Lovely or Fortune, Hime....God...Why Hime? Why did they ignore her until the end damn it!? We can all agree this season is a 6/10 right?

If there's one thing happiness charge failed at, it's the character designs. It's not that they suck it's just it feels almost like their the the other sailor scouts and the rest of the cures are sailor moon(which means plain vs memorable)

My opinion on this show: I don't know, never watched it, yet I'm still here because I want to here the story from the perspective of Azen. 🤔

HapCha was a fairly entertaining season filled with issues. To be honest, I think a large part of the issue is mostly about Blue and Megumi in general.

fun fact: megumi nakajima who voice cure lovely she is a half filipino (mother side) i have seen on her video that she can speak our current language called tagalog during her invitation for the cosplay mania in our country despite she was born in japan and also she already adore with the franchise for a long time. and btw their something it bothers me with this series; the theme and the anniversary itself but i will save it for a later time.

1. Iona/ Fortune is one of my favorite Cures. Why? I'm a simple person: give me a female who's a black belt, and you have my attention. Double that along with being a Precure: INSTANT WIN!!! 2. Personally: I think Koyasu took this role as a warm-up to his later performance in "Stardust Crusaders" (which aired the following year.) 3. More like Rosetta thinking that Honey's Clover was overdoing it!!!!!

Yeah, someone better not tell Ikuyo who her daughter hung out with in All Star Memories. Anyway, Happiness Charge at last and......it’s just as underwhelming as I remembered and yet, after being burned out by fighting pastry and the most tamed space adventure in my entire life, I can totally understand why you would appreciate this season a tad bit more. As mediocre the action is sometimes, it’s freaking nuance compared to Star Twinkle fights. Hell, at least they have a crud load of attacks to avoid repetition. Still, the most enjoyment I got out of this season are the messages. Seriously, seeing the girl with the best Smile was the best part of ep 5 for me. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like my view on the characters have changed that much as watching this review reminds me of why Megumi is such an ineffective protagonist. Not only she still lacks a unique quirk of her own to distinguish herself from other leads but preparing your own damn party that your friend is setting up for you? Seriously? Really, much like Lala in Star Twinkle, I still view Hime as this Cure team’s saving grace. Iona is a Cure Moonlight wanna be as we will see soon enough and Cure Honey is.....there. Ask for Seiji, he’s actually pretty great. There’s a reason he appeared on the NHK poll compared to........every other character in this show. Oh yeah, Blue. I’ll let Adam explain why he’s awful in a later video but I’ll just say basically the blueprints (No pun intended) for the Star Princesses. In other words, @&$! him. Great review, Adam. Glad it came out sooner than I expected!

I absolutly ADORE this precure serie, it wasn't the best sure I still love it. The intro was a bop and the ending was AMAZING.

An odd fact about this series is mostly the henshin devices, in 1st season of Precure (not max heart the 1st season) Cure Black and White henshin device were card based so for an anniversary season it was a little nice that they added that. (Whether it was intentional or not)

seiji was the best part of hapiness charge. he didnt deserve

I was really unhappy about one thing: International Precure. It was WASTED. I kinda wished they could of went to different part of the countries, helping other Precure. They could even gain their Form Changes from other countries, as a plot thing (e.g. Princess gains her Hawaiian form from Aloha Precure), but no. The international plot was just thrown aside and briefly mentioned. Thats why i only liked Aloha Precure in the season; I also think the international precure had better design wise than the main team! If you rep Japan, shouldnt they have a more traditional Japanese outfit? Like Cure Mirage does have a Japanese vibe to her design.

I find it weird that almost no one remembers Happiness Charge/brings it up. People seem to forget about it entirely.

I quite like this season. Probably because it reminds me of Heart Catch, which is my favourite season.

A funny little detail is that the journalist in Happiness Charge precure shares the same voice with the student photographer in Heartcatch Precure. Could the two be related or perhaps Kanae grew up to become Miyo?

While not my favorite, I still love Happiness Charge. Hime being the main reason as she’s a very relatable character for me and reminds me of myself when I was younger. I really wish she was the lead Cure. Also regarding the Opening, I used to hate it but it grew on me, although I much prefer the endings.

Each season is based in its own universe. The All Stars films are their own continuity. It’s only when MahoGirls decided to have the next lead make a cameo appearance in the final episode does it seem like they’re in the same world. Especially when HUGtto decides to bring all the characters back for a few episodes. Some were confirmed to be in different universes or at least timelines, while it also seems to indicate that Yes 5 and HUGtto live in the same world with Urara and Saaya being fans of one another’s work. But honestly, this season could have been great, as with every season, but it just couldn’t focus on it’s character development well as well as using the eggs in its basket to their full potential. SPOILERS BUT NOT REALLY SINCE THIS SEASON AIRED YEARS AGO Megumi felt static the entire season, in my opinion. She never grew as a person at the end of the day. She could have had a great storyline, but nahhhh. It’s also aggravating that she had the final boss fight by herself. Yuko, coulda been a best girl if her storyline didn’t revolve solely on food. She herself is a decently written character. She just needed a bit more to go on. Her bond with Phantom could have been a really great story, but it was built too late and felt unfinished. I still find their relationship a nice touch though. Iona deserved better. That’s all. Hime was definitely more of a lead than Megumi. Her development, compared to the others, is farrr better, but still needed more to feel solid. The international PreCure plot device should have been a GRAND storyline. Like, we could have had each episode focus on a different team or at least give us more detail on them. Also, it bugs me that they didn’t show any variation in skin tone, aside from Aloha PreCure and even they had almost the same skin tone as Saki from Splash Star.

I personally love this season. Mostly because I love underrated shows and movies and I want to give this season some love. I even have the mirror and it's my favorite item in all of anime. (Just imagine have your entire wardrobe on the cards and being able to change whenever you want and wherever you want..)

I loved the first part of Happiness Charge.

Your point about all the precure teams from over the years and how they fit together into a single timeline/continuity, I notice this is a recurring issue with legacy series. They want to progress characters and events and introduce successors- all without progressing time. Comic books routinely claim decades worth of storylines have all happened just within the last few years, no matter how little sense that makes. Batman has had at least 5 sidekicks despite only being Batman for about a decade in-universe. Why do so few writers bother to age up the characters and give them new challenges to face with age? Sitcoms with child characters are good about that. The storylines age up with the characters out of necessity, you can't keep having storylines about not sharing toys when the kids are old enough to drive and work a 9-5. But animation isn't nearly as vulnerable to that restriction of aging actors, so since they don't _have to_ age up the characters, they just don't. Sure, there are advantages to being able to age the characters more slowly, it's even necessary to a degree since it takes several weeks if not a few months to get what only amounts to a few days in-universe to play out, you'd have to have numerous big date gaps if you made the in-universe timeline progress in realtime, but you still have to have _some_ time progression or else you get issues like what you were saying. We can reasonably infer that each Precure series takes place over the course of about a year, since they tend to all start around the beginning of the school year and end around finals, and this is further supported by all the holiday special episodes or otherwise episodes that make explicit reference to the date. The crossover films happen pretty early on in most series, fairly recently after the then-current team became precure, and all the veteran teams have all the team members and costumes and powers as of their ends of their respective series, so we can conclude that it is in fact each successive series starting after the previous series ends on a sequential timeline, not simultaneous. Which means that Futari Wa precure should have graduated from college by now or otherwise be in their mid-20's, and yet they're still crossing over as if they're teenagers- as if no time had passed from how they were at the end of their series.

I don't care if everyone says that Megumi is a Mary Sue like Mana in Dokidoki. I love Megumi. And so Hime. Don't forget the Happy Rice's song of Yuko... I mean, Cure Honey!

When you have watched worst Precure series, looking back at something bad like Happiness Charge really made you appreciate what good stuff they have. Honestly, aside from Megumi, the other thing that made me dislike Happiness Charge is how they treat the setting and story, cause the plot holes that can be seen in this series is HUGE! This made even worst, when future Precure series did not learn from that mistake, along with some new ones, which made them 10x worst. But hey, that is just me. I am sucker for having little details that shape the story, and seeing how the story can just do whatever it wants without following the rules they have established without a good reason just irks me. And speaking of settings, this series has a ton of contradictions and unanswered things that made the plot hole really huge, and the further you watch, the more obvious the plot holes are. But I'll wait for that. The new Prechange system is one of the most pointless gimmick this series has to offer. When this series aired, I ranted about how the form changes are completely pointless and useless as it is just a screen nuke. The base forms has more abilities and power than the form changes, so what is even the point? This all would be made better in Maho Tsukai, and you can tell that there is a reason why form changes aren't used in Precure often, despite having some potentials. Looking forward to see how this series starts to fall apart.

Blue: There's one Ironclad Rule in being a PreCure….. No falling in love! Me: Ummm BALLCRAP...… I can see why Azen is venting frustration on a Pillow..... Even I have to question What Stupid... non-sensical Caveman Bullshit gave this the Green-light..... Pretty Cures fight for Justice and Love and saying No falling in love kinda contradicts it, Why did no one in Toei editorial oversight Point this out to the Monkey's that where writing the Scripts!?!?!?!?

Yeah Happiness Charge isn't exactly that bad upon second viewing because it is just so comedic and is actually funny for me. I think the song number is rather good. But really, the worst part is Blue in this series. Megumi isn't really pure annoyance at the very least since she still give a good laughter in actually comedic sequence. Really for deity I'm questioning which one is the worse between 12 Princess or Blue since the former was just there while the latter is annoying viewer constantly from time to time. Like, the whole story ended up the Precure fixing Blue's mistake literally and everything wouldn't have happened if Blue grow some backbone or two.

Fantastic review, as usual. I always love the effort you put into appreciating every character even down to one’s that sometimes get overlooked by other reviewers (like the mascots!) Also, I have a theory, that I’m pretty sure 42:59 (Hime doing the pose as Cure Honey), is intended as a possible reference to the original 70s anime of Cutey Honey. In the first episode of that show (which was the only one I watched), nearly the exact same pose is done, by Cutey Honey during a scene when she’s singing the main theme, to trick the bad guys. Series that Azen need to review: The Futari wa Trilogy Yes 5 and Gogo Go Princess and Mahoutsukai

Should it really even be a requisite for the Lead Cure of a season to be pink? The leader of my OC Team is primarily blue, but I added pink accents to her uniform as a compromise.

So years after seeing this series I came to realize that it didn't feel like an anniversary series. Not once did the OG Cures make an appearance on the show. You know what Toei property celebrated a franchise properly? Gokaiger. Happiness Charge could've been like Gokaiger but instead it became another typical Cure series. With some minor surprises here and there.

Fun fact Megumi Han is the voice of Gon from Hunter X Hunter Remake and she's the daughter of Keiko Han a veteran voice actress who's known as Luna from Sailor Moon Queen Beryl from the first season of Sailor Moon and Professor Ivy from Pokemon. And Megumi Nakajima is also known as Chespin from Pokemon too.

For me when I watched it I felt like that the pink lead wasnt really a lead I mean from what I recall Cure Fortune always got the powerups until the very end where megumi got the Planet-saving one

I liked this season not sure why probably a bunch of little things like the music or concepts like the form changes.

While I do admit this is not a great season ,it still had few things in it that I've wanted to see. A big scale battle that was going around the world and different Precure teams fighting this new evil. When I saw this season, I thought it would be like Gokaiger and a different Cure team would show up to help out in someway. Seiji was something I've also wanted to see done, as he was just a normal boy who wasn't a princess or a fairy. Just a normal kid who knew their secret and just helped out from time to time. Still, the show does have a lot of problems and it wasted a lot of good ideas. Thou I have to say, I liked this season more then Doki Doki.

Since Megumi has a savior complex, which is evident based on how she defines herself as a pure busybody and shows similar symptoms of said savior complex, why didn't anyone see that and take her for some therapy to get it fixed? From what I've read, a savior complex can't be fixed by normal means, you need to get therapy in order to get rid of or minimize the savior complex in a person if they have it. I understand that everyone has flaws and some are caused by mental issues, which I can understand since I have a mental disability, but sometimes, there comes a point where you might need to send someone who is severely suffering from mental issues to therapy to help. Savior complexes lead to self-destruction, so yeah, best that they get Megumi some therapy.

Oh boy, Happiness Charge....there was once a time this was among my least favorite Precure seasons though after some of the more recent seasons, my hate towards this has died down a little. That said, the first half of this show I find...decent, but once we reach the second half...oh man, it just goes downhill and doesn't know when to stop...

Tbh happiness charge precure wasn't horrible it was just basic but it was leads better than Mahou Tsukai,Kira Kira, and hugtto combined in my opinion Go princess is the best precure season in my eyes thats why i cant wait till you review it

Man I remember watching this season and appreciate it for putting more effort than Power Rangers Megaforce as an anniversary season. It still was not good as an anniversary season. Like I liked some of the concepts that they had but they never go all out with it and kind of just got bored in the second half when they did nothing with some of the premises they introduced. Still like Hime and everyone else is meh. As for what people hate about this season, I'm just like this boy needs to get his shit straight.

Genuinely like happiness charge and am highkey mad that everyone shits on it whoops.

Regarding the episode with a choir, it seriously reminds me of the episode with the drama club in Heartcatch. I don’t know if they meant to take inspiration but I think they do, it’s too much of a coincidence. Anyhow, Heartcatch delivered it much better with Azusa actually being in the wrong and not willing to admit it at first, but then she learnt from Erika, who she already knows and almost have a rivalry with. She was shown to be so passionate for acting, she kept acting even when she was alone and she cried on the rooftop afterwards. The emotions was just so much more hard hit when she reconciled with her team by the end of the episode. Why couldn’t Happiness Charge do something like this? 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Mmmmm...Hapcha huh... If u ask me how I feel about this series, it's mainly "I hate it"...though not as rage inducing as MTP, Kira2 and last year's STP (Hapcha's rank 4 on my hate list). I mellowed out over the years. Again, I still hate it...though not as much as before. Concept wise, personally I like it. U can able to make up any attacks with your imagination that I enjoyed their beam spamming so much. At the very least, this season has more IMAGINATION AND CREATIVITY than last year's season...just saying. The Precure outfits of theirs is...eh. Reminds me of Sailor Moon outfits but I like that each one have different styles to distinguish themselves from the rest of the Cures around the world...and those cards coming from their fairy's snot huh. Mmmm...better than Heartcatch's fairy s**t XD also those cards remind me of Kamen Rider =w= Now for the characters...immediately, Hime: star of the show. Yeah, you're right on point of her being the "konosuba" of Precure. She's annoying...but to the point that it's charming. I know she'll get better throughout this season that's for sure. Yuko...eeeeeeh, not gonna lie: I forgot about her as a character. I only recall her being both a skilled support type to the group and a full on foodie ^^; Seiji could've been the best human support character long before Yui from GoPri came along...but as is, he's good

I usually don’t comment on the overall series review, but I have a lot of say for this series. The name is even longer in Japanese. Looks like someone has the same opinions on the opening and endings. Coupled with my distaste for the character designs (seriously who gave them makeup) and the annoying music, I was not a fan. Happiness Charge Precure. Oh yes. This season. Back when I first watched this, I absolutely despised it. Like you, my opinion on this show mellowed out. Especially since I’ve seen worse in this franchise. The main problem with this show is that it tried too hard to mimic HeartCatch’s success. It had interesting plot points that were not explored or developed.

IT'S TIME BABY! Let me just say that while I do have strong opinions on HpCh, they are just strong opinions regarding "moments" because overall I believe HpCh does have some good ideas within it. It's not all bad, but as an anniversary season akin to Hugtto it really got screwed over. What's with Toei not being able to do anniversaries right with this series? *Sigh* That being said this is the before portion of the review so I'm going to point out while I did rewatch the series, I do have mixed feelings as well. Let's get to the breakdown: 3:00 The title is wayyy too long. I'll agree there. 4:40 At least they didn't crap them out like in HC lol 6:00 I'm mixed on the inclusion of the cures at the beginning. Considering we will be getting the internationals later, there's more to worry about. It is a nice touch due to contraints though 6:18 The opening is not too memorable. It's just really bland. Lovely interjecting is annoying but not the worst. You can definitely see the similarities to HeartCatch though. 7:50 To be fair, the precure being known could've been a cool idea...if it wasn't for the fact NOTHING comes from it. There's a reason why the precure are manly a secret and unknown so you don't have to ask questions like "why doesn't the government go and try to help them?" We have a literal God on this planet and no one seems to care but everyone seems to know who Blue is? Not even 2 minutes into the show's main plot and we have what I call the HpCHh plothole party! 9:07 SAME! Hime has way more charm than the main lead does ironically. If you just switched this with a pink it'd be much more endearing because Hime oozes that naturally charisma. Yeah, Hime is a brat, but I like that! I like the departure from the normal goody two shoes protags. She ALSO develops to be a better person. Something the main protag of this season DOESN'T HAVE...but I'll get to that later. 10:46 Yeah...I think they tried way too hard to recapture their success with Heartcatch here. It's one thing to have homages, it's another to literally REUSE the same format only a few years afterwards. Heartcatch would still be fresh in people's minds by this point. They should've waited before doing something like this again. 11:50 They aren't too bad, but let me rant on the outfits in this show for a moment. They are my least favorite precure outfits. The navy vests just don't look good. And let me just say, they really tried with he animation with these and I can respect that but they still are just not appealing to me. Navy doesn't work well with the pastel color choices they chose and it makes every Cure look like they came out of a dollmaker. Which yeah, this series is meant to sell toys, but at least the cures were distinct. It's just so blatant here and it bothers me so much. 17;40 Oooooohhhh boyyyyy. I can't wait for the wish subplot to be brought up. That will be glorious! 19:45: The CGI...is a mixed bag for me. I think it just takes too much of the run time. Every character has their own CGI move and it really becomes spammy until the finisher is revealed. 29:00 THIS. THIS right here. Megumi is probably one of the the most INACTIVE leads in all of precure, only beaten out by Hikaru. She has almost NO agency in the story up until story important points and it's so frustrating to see her constantly get shafted because she's so generic. I barely call her a lead because she's just so dense and not endearing that I don't want to follow HER story. I want to follow HIME'S STORY because she's the better character by a longshot. 31:29 The international cures are such a disappointment. They appear 3 WHOLE times in the show. A special episode, the ending episodes and introduced early on. They have no impact, character, and only serve to be stereotypical props. Ugh. 42:21 Yeah. You think you could've told them that beforehand blue? Having another cure is helpful and YET this guy doesn't even bother to inform the others about this? Talk about setting up these girls for failure. lol Overall, great review!

This series was rock bottom for me. Worst Precure, and possibly worst Pink. There are very few things about this season I don't dislike and most of those are related do Yuuko and Iona. (Edit: And the villains) And even then I have problems with how they were handled. At least Doki is entertaining even though it's an absolute trainwreck, Kirakira has likable characters even though it's more of a baking show than a Precure, and Star Twinkle has Lala. Happiness Charge has nothing good enough to make the rest worth sitting through.

I recognize an voice actor in this series. Tatsuhisa suzuki, he voiced that black haired kid on the baseball team, I hope you make more references to his career because you'll have a lot of animes to choose from.

I gave up watching this season about halfway through because when it wasn't annoying me it was boring me in ways that outwayed the good. Some episodes seemed to forget there message 2/3s in, I don't like megumi for the reasons you highlighted and honestly I think yuko is a very lacking character who's personality I would struggle describing. Truthfully I am partly going to watch this review to find out how the rest of the show plays out without having to force myself to watch it.

HUGtto PreCure 16. Star Twinkle PreCure 17. Healin' Good PreCure The only anniversary season that was accurate was the HUGtto Season...though that would explain why Doki Doki's toy sales were pretty high and weren't topped until HUGtto. So in a way Toei didn't exactly miss out on a good Anniversary Sales year. They just made a basic mathematical error when it came to when that anniversary actually was

When I saw the international precure I was excited to how it would work but I was disappointed how they were used and I watched this season after the one that came before it and after so eh

I want to watch Happiness Charge Precure but i can't find it for free on google and i can't find any anime websites that have every full episodes of all the Precure shows. I can't find them in the US and i have to buy the very exspinsive DVDs on amazon. What anime websites do you watch Precure with full episodes and no cut episodes and short clips of Precure?

Tbh I think this is a season meant for entertainment value thats not entertaining. That's why it's for sure my least favorite, but I could easily see someone loving it if they did find it entertaining.
