As a Pentecostal pastor I saw a lot of grievous events invade the lives of people who would live the simple life of faith. This song and Vestal's voice carried many people ....over the mountains and through the valleys. Thank you

Hear the joy in her voice as she spreads the Gospel, then she almost comes to tears as she is overcome once again with the realization of the depth of God's gift to us -- all while witnessing to us in song! Beautiful.

My aunt would sing this song in the little country church and her voice would resonate off the walls of the sanctuary I'd love to go back to those times and hear my Uncle preach the word again but that's not possible he passed away in October 2010.

I LOVE Vestal's mountain of hair!!! Dottie Rambo wore her's the same way!! So, it was, indeed, a style of the 70's. Dottie used to say that they would go to one church that preached you had to wear your hair up - then to another church where you'd have to wear your hair down. And, that's why in early pictures, she's got half of her hair UP and half of it DOWN. Looks like vestal just put her's up. It had to be 12 inches high!! But, that voice speaks for itself - amazing talent and wonderful lady.

Love this song by Vestal Goodman. It's my favorite out of all of her songs. To the person who said it sounded like a song you'd hear in a bar...well, before I became a Christian, I used to go to bars and nightclubs and I never heard ANY songs like this played in any of those places. You usually don't hear Christian music played in bars and clubs for one thing. As for her hair, this was the style back then when this recording was made and she later changed it as times changed. I grew up in a pentecostal church and we never had dictates on how to wear our hair. Pentecostal Holiness, Pentecostal Church of God and Wesleyan did, but Assembly of God and Church of God did not, at least not in the 1950s and later. Nor did we have to wear sleeves below the elbows, not wear make up and not cut our hair. There are two different types of Pentecostals, so they aren't all the same. While some of you are tearing these singers down, you might want to remember they are doing the work God called them to do and some of the gospel groups are on the road more than they are at home and that really takes a toll. It takes a lot of dedication to be on the road when you aren't feeling well and traveling all over the country, most of the time in a different city every night. God bless all gospel groups who perform and bless us with their singing. Some of you don't like it, nobody is forcing you to listen. I'd be very careful if I were some of you about criticizing people who are doing God's work. They are doing the will of God...what are you doing?

+Karen Kelly I once frequented bars and I never once heard a song like this in one of those places. playing a song like this in a bar would be the Light casting out the darkness. If this were to truly occur some would walk toward the light ( the others would run) esp with Vestal Goodman singing this.
@alicefink10925 жыл бұрын
Karen Kelly spot on! Touch not mine annointed is a warning to anyone mocking a child of God so I don't think it very wise of those criticizing, mocking and making fun of any annointed servant of God

This music reminds me of being in church when I was a little boy and the people shouting and praising God. When the church had power and fire. I'm only 35 so that shows how much of the world has come in to churches. I long for those days again but I fear the next time we experience that kind of worship will be when we stand before the Throne of God! Pray for our lost that they will be there with us!!

Vestal and Howard didn't just "sing" - they ministered to literally millions of people. Their outreach increased greatly with the advent of TBN. Vestal was the same in person as what you saw when she ministered. She was never afraid to speak her mind but had a heart after God. Her relationsihp with God was the most important thing in her life.

I remember many a times when I saw the Happy Goodman's as a child. Vestal's hair was done as a true holiness Church of God woman! It was not just a fad of the 60's or 70's but still is worn by Pentlegosple women of today with their hair never being cut! Love love love the Goodman's!!!!
@judystrickland835410 жыл бұрын
You're right about some of the "holiness" ladies, but the height to Vestal's hair was the style of the 70's. She wore "big hair" all of her life(not quite that big) - it was just Vestal. She wouldn't have been the same without that hair and the linen hankie!!

In response to Hope Rinehard - and her calling this music "like what you'd hear in a bar". I know it shouldn't upset me but it does - ignorance always upsets me. Music belongs to GOD!! Satan has taken it and used it but the Church owns it, it belongs to God. There's nothing wrong with worshipping God through music. God's people deserve to be uplifted by the music and lyrics of these wonderful old gospel songs and singers!!! God help us when we can't enjoy the blessings of God - and that includes music. The Bible tells us to sing and dance before God. As for women behind the pulpit - we are no longer bound to the old Laws - we are under GRACE. When God anoints anyone - man or woman - they have a right to preach/sing/teach His Word!! Well, I'll get off my soapbox now. Just couldn't let that pass even though it's been 2 years. People still read it.

I didn't salute then. I shall never salute. I take a knee and bid my adieus. Kleve mine head or else leave me be. You are not welcome in mine presence. I serve a God who is greater than these. He rules Supreme and Triumphant. May you find peace in The Book of Acts. It's actual truth. The apostles were anointed and refused as I do this day to blaspheme His Omipotent, Omipresent, Omniscience. He is Exceedingly, Abundantly, and Above All and there is NuN gods other in His sight. He from which all creation was and is. Blessed Be and many thanks for your understanding. It must hurt as you and yours have so strewn me across this Earth; I know!

As to Vestal's hair......If you look closely you will see upper crown part is not her hair....the color is a several shades lighter. It is a hair piece. During the time of elaborate hair styles especially in Pentecostal church settings (up to the 80's) many ladies in that setting used hair extensions to get a bigger look. Today in most Pentecostal churches you will see almost no hair on many ladies' heads. Makes you pine for the old days in that respect. In Vestal's latter years, she departed from the strict Pentecostal "look" adding makeup and a shorter hair style.

That big hair was a wig anyway. She said she could have hidden a football in it. She had heart surgery in 1974 and was out for several months. She said that when she got well, she didn’t care to mess with the wig anymore.

A lot of Pentecostal churches believe in a lot of different ways. Im Pentecostal I do not believe in most holidays, I would rather not have a woman pastor me. However I do not dare to Judge a persons final destination. God will have Mercy on whom he will. I believe that the bible gives good instruction on Salvation. Pray unto Jesus and He shall guide you into all truths. I do not disagree with someone who differs from me, lets figure out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

@bottledsoul I mean this with the utmost respect ,so please don't be offended but you truely don't know of the joy and peace that you are missing, God really is real, and he allows his children to feel his presence, he pours it over them like honey, there is nothing to compare it to, I know cause I tried for years to fill up the void within me with every thing else, I pray that someday you will count yourself worthy to experience God's love for you.
