I'm glad to have good timing, Lol.. I was pretty upset that mine went out in one race. I think I got 11 lipos through it that afternoon. Ridiculous 4shO!

Possible "Fried VTX fix"! First off, thank you for your videos!! So I was almost positive I had a fried VTX. I flew a battery too long and wiped out the board as you mentioned in one of your videos, I flashed and got my drone back up and running, enter VTX issue. After fiddling for a while I checked 'VTX_info' in CLI and saw 'level 14 dBm, power 25mw' so I went into the vid transmitter tab of BF (4.3.1) and added a 4th value of 14 in the VTX table, BOOM perfect clarity! Hope that makes sense and maybe you can see if I'm on to something.

For the VTXs I've had go bad, they slowly died and were going 10 feet at best. This is Interesting and I will be looking at it more. I appreciate your support and feedback! My mom always said, "if ya ain't learnin, ya might aswell be dead"...🤣

Great stuff and I am glad I discovered you recently. I built a version of a Babytooth 3 inch 1S quad with a Happymodel Elrs 2g4 board. To my dismay the vtx is weak. Contacted HM and they sent me instructions to disable the vtx and where to solder in an external vtx so your video has come in very handy even though the boards are different. Since my quad has alot of disc area and weight is not as much a problem as a whoop I went and ordered a tbs unify pro32 nano and thinking after watching your other video about redundant grounds which is also great I am considering ordering a Pololu S9V11F5 .5 gram 1.5 amp constant, super tiny step up/down 5 volt power regulator for my new vtx and not take any more power from the whoop sized board. I have heard external vtx's can sag/brown out when running 400mw and taking 5 volts from the board in other installations. What do you think? Subscribed.

I appreciate your feedback, support, and encouragement! Welcome to the PropsOff family! Your story isn't unusual, sadly. HappyModel has sent me a few with VTX issues and I've had half my fleet burn out. I think your right in choosing a BEC to drive the VTX running 400mw+. The redundant ground may not be as critical here in a single board configuration. I can't remember the amp draw of the unify at max, all mine have burned out. I do believe they are power hungry. Sounds like an interesting project. I had lots of fun with my Mobypick turned MobyTooth, lol. Enjoy the Breeze...👍🏻🍻👊🏻

What were the directions to disable the vtx from happymodel? I mean I’d rather do some betaflight commands to disable it if that’s possible, otherwise I’ll follow this video

@@djs134 What I did was email Happymodel and ask like I did. They sent me instructions how to do it. If you are experienced at soldering it isn’t a bad job. Good Luck!

I may need to use this in the near future...I bought a used Mobula 6 on ebay and the quad puts out intermittent video, I also noticed the canopy is getting pretty hot, leading me to believe the problem is the camera. I'm hoping it's not the VTX since a replacement RunCam Nano 3 is a way easier repair but having this video as a resource is extremely valuable. Awesome video, geat job!

@@propsoff Thanks! update: I tapped a couple leads into the Mobula's camera connector routing the video directly to a display and the camera is working perfectly. When I view the transmitted video, it cuts in and out, so the issue is definitely something on the main board. I'm only into this drone for $65 so not a big deal but very disappointing since I pretty much just got it and haven't even gotten a chance to fly it other than LOS. I'm not sure I want to go the route you did in this video in case it's not the vtx and something else so at this point, it's LOS flyer and possibly will get a new FC board in the future or end up on ebay as a for parts/repair listing.

@@ChuckLeone I had 9 and only have 2 now. They are discontinued as well. Everyone seems to like the DiamondF4. I got one and I hope to put some packs through it at this weekend's race...🤞🏻

I just did this and I got it to work!! Wow. I don't know why but I was really skeptical that it would work for me. At 4:30 you circle the vtx area and describe what to destroy. In destroying that I accidentally popped off the 3 caps that were in my VTX area. I assumed that it would still work since that was part of the VTX and it did, in fact, work.

At 5:44 I do show the caps are still there, lol... due to the coil being gone, there's no longer current running through them, so its ok. The 5v and 3.3v powering the board are separate - which actually surprised me - does make this board heavy.. Glad all is good your way...🍻 Nowadays, I only use the 2.1v Betafpv board when it comes to 1S - external VTX is a must, internal just don't last.

@@propsoff I did watch your video about making the antenna but the only think I have to start with is the standard ufl antenna that is almost a gram. Can I remove that shrink wrap and make that one lighter somehow?

@@propsoff First off thanks so much for helping!! You rock. The only antenna I have that has a UFL connector on it weights about a gram. It is similar to the ones that come with the Mobula8 with shrink wrap on the end. Underneath the shrink wrap is some kind of larger cylinder but I havent taken one apart.

Hey Props! Love your work and thanks for this video. My VTX is starting to bug out, getting black flashes slightly but still flyable. I have a Happymodel OVX300 on the way and will attempt this fix as soon as the onboard dies (or if I get fed up with the sketchy video). I'll be posting it on my channel and will credit you. I've completely stepped away from flight controllers that have an on-board VTX. They just fail too soon or they get weak fast - can't see when racing 4-up.. I appreciate you thinking of crediting my video...👊🏻 This hobby is so fun, but whoops are frustrating - I have 3/5/7 inchers that have had zero issues and fly for years on end. Getting 2 maybe 3 races out of a whoop board seems unacceptable 4shO!. Enjoy the Breeze...👍🏻🍻👊🏻

@@propsoff interesting you don't use FCs with onboard VTX cause I've been thinking about the Happymodel x12. Have you had any experience with that board?

@@nxp200 I have not. Really not something I would use on a -20 gram 65mm race quad. That flight controller is over 5 grams and has 3x the amps needed. It looks packed with lots of stuff though. Honestly, if HappyModel sent me a dozen to test out, I may be interested in it for an upgrade to the "MobyTooth". I just can't buy anything unless necessary or to repair. That board reminds me of the V3 Crazybee F4FR Lite, which I had 9 (2 returned) of them and only 2 currently work - in 8 months...🥺

@PropsOff sorry, I should clarify that I plan to use it on a 2 inch 2S outdoor ripper (Nick Burns' suggested build), not a 65/75mm indoor whoop. Yeh those Crazybees don't last long 😔. Thanks for the help!

Would this work on the elrs version got two sessions in before it but the dust did the dredded reset then no vtx at all wont even connect or pick up a signal

@@uthmaanahmad788 As the price of these boards increase, I've been debating getting some tools to repair them. For now, I just disable the On-board VTX and add a new one.

On the new board V3.3 is much easier to disable the VTX with just Uxbridge a solder joint and also the video out has a pin now.

Just wondering if you could help me, how many 5v outs are there? Because I would like to connect a new vtx and elrs and also a runcam thumb pro I need about 3 5v outs any clew where?

@@lihppuangpet7871 Looking at a wire diagram of the F4FR Lite, there are two 5v outputs. One on top and one on the bottom. If you can run the cam 5v to the VTX, that would work, however, keep in mind the 5v-rail itself is rated for only 1.5 amps (HappyModel has removed this specification from their website, therefore, it seems it could be less). Be cautious of your watts.

i just ripped off my vtx antenna pad at mobula7 because of damn silicone they put on board.. was bought just yesterday..any idea to bybass it? i hasve signal but def. its not 400 nto even 10 i think lol.. its just goes dark 5 meters away and constantly jumps randomly at analog module led screen..

@@propsoff yes i can solder. actually i found a chip that where signal is at upper corner after watching your vtx bypass video. was so happy becasue i was gonna solve it :D but it was soooo tiny micro, i messed up when soldering.. and than i messed up more wtih knife-tracing lol.. it still gives signal when shorting certain chip legs near it but couldnt solve it yet..

Yes, the video is separated once the internal VTX is removed. I haven't done this so I'm not sure if DisplayPort will work via MSP...🤔

I've never even got to see any video on my mobula6 HD, my goggles just stay static and nothing happens. The drone flies well but I can't use my goggles. Do you think my VTX is broken

If you only see snow, the VTX and goggle are not on the same frequency, or, the VTX isn't outputting. If the VTX is set to zero or pit mode or broke, this could be the issue.

@@propsoff I've tried the search option on my goggles and nothing happens. I have then manually set the channel on the drone in betaflight and manually on the goggles. They are still static?

There's actually pads to run an external VTX on that board, I think. Apologies, I don't think I'm clear on what your dealing with? You soldered the external VTX and disabled the on-board?

On the x12 board there is solder bridge that is connected near the component that you removed to disable the vtx. If the short is removed it disables the vtx. I was not having any luck getting video out using the pad after disabling the vtx. I haven't been able to find anyone who has installed an external vtx using the x12 board after disabling the onboard one. @@propsoff

@@svveptunder After looking at the wire diagram... www.happymodel.cn/index.php/2022/04/05/x12-aio-5-in-1-flight-controller-built-in-12a-esc-and-openvtx/ Seems like it's pretty straight forward, disable the jumper bridge and wire the VTX to the 4 pads. If your not getting video, you could try a few things: Check for ground continuity Check for 5 volts from the + pad Check ohms from ground to video in (75ohms)... Check the camera by swapping it out Wire the camera directly to the VTX (may have problems with the OSD chip... It's difficult to help with these things without having it in my hand, lol.. But checking these things may lead to understanding why it's failing to display...

Hey bud I'm back lmfao so new antenna didn't fix the problem on the mobula6 so it would need to be on the board I assume but the everything seems like it's all sold. Didn't use the camera when I first got it so dk if shipped bad. Just wondering what to do now thought about putting a 3 in one camera on it instead

@@methodsofmeyhem Is the VTX table set up? Is low power mode disabled? Did you try to put the power on 100mw? Remember, if the VTX is running without airflow to cool it, it will burn out..

@@dimitrifournier9897 I haven't had any luck fixing a burned out VTX, just replacement. You can use any 5v out pad to run the vtx if the incoming voltage of the VTX is marked as such..
