That's a good tip, thanks for sharing! I just use mine for pumping pond water, so no harsh chemicals there. I do have the risk of sand though.

after watching I bought a 2" pump from Harbor Freight........ I kept it running while refueling. Ran for 15 hrs straight. Changed oil. Next weekend Ran again....that little thing is a beast. thanks for posting big dawg

I don’t recall that I was bullet proofing it, just checking one issue that I’ve had consistent problems with before. My experience with the actual pump itself has been good. The motors can be a little touchy. Brand new they start great and run great. Lately I’ve had several issues with the paper air filters imploding and plugging up the carbs. About to replace my second one. I beat these pumps up a good bit, so I’m not too upset with issues like that. If I’d put them up and store them proper when not in use I’d certainly have less issues. Instead I leave them sitting outside 365 days a year. I run them till the break and then fix or replace them.

I’m happy you got your flooded pump running again. I have a video of going through one after it got partially submerged. I’ve never fully sunk one.

Check your main gasket on the pump body where the 6 T bolts hold it together. And also check the 4 bolts that hold pump to the motor. I’ve had it leak in both these spots. Also if you are trying to push up a big hill make sure you aren’t air locked. If the discharge hose has too much water or kinks restricting flow sometimes the pump can’t push the slug of air out of the pump body enough to pull a prime. Disconnect all hoses and make sure they’re clear of water/mud. Then start over on the priming process. They can be finicky but usually as long as it’s not sucking air they’re fine. Also check your suction hose for holes/leaks at the joints.

You have a significant air leak somewhere. Use thread tape on the connections. Check the seal in the pump housing, the seal between pump and motor, and that mounting bolts are all tight. Check that suction hose doesn’t have pinholes

@@Purplexi Oh no man.. mine was just fine.. And fires up on the 2nd pull.. Although I do have the older blue ones, And when I bought mine they had these on the floor also.. They were more money at the time.. I am gonna be buying one soon because the red ones are full trash pumps... Even though I still run trash through my blue ones.. Lol.. nothing bigger than a 1/2 inch.. I use my 1-inch one last week and I haven't ran it any in over a year and it fired up on the 2nd pull.. and one more thing.. if you have an Agri supply near you then I would buy the hoses from them, because they're extremely flexible and cheap

Yoh likely have an air leak. Check all your gaskets and seals. If you used thread on adapters like me, then use thread tape. And of course make sure you prime it for the first use. Once primed and with all seals in place they work fine. Make sure if any of your suction hoses have rubber gaskets that they are are all in place. If you’re pumping out of a muddy basin like a pond or ditch, and don’t have the screen/can on the bottom of the suction hose, sometimes it can pull itself down in the soft mud and get buried and blocked off. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Air leaks are the enemy for sure! The bolts mounting pump to motor can be loose and leak. Also where the main crankshaft comes into the pump there is gasket. There is a ring gasket where the pump case halves meet that can leak if the T bolts aren’t tight. Hose adapters or hose gaskets can leak The suction hose itself can have pinholes that leak air. Try running your discharge hose up hill or tie the end up to a tree so it’s above the pump. Back-prime the pump through the hose and start it. If you see the discharge hose burping air through the water then you know you’re sucking air in somewhere. I used to run two of these pumps at the same time and would tie the hoses up on the same tree so if one died and the other kept running it would keep the dead one primed while I got it gassed and fired up again 😎

I thought I made a video testing it out. I’ve never had to actually use it to fight a fire, but used it to water my orchard as a test and was kicking water nearly 100’

theBald1 I don’t know the psi but if you look up the manual online it has a performance curve. I think it shows a max head height (the point at which flow rate is 0). Multiply that height by .433 (psi/ft) and you have your max pressure. The 3” pump isn’t designed for pressure. It’s meant to move high volume at low pressure. If you want high pressure at low volume then you’d look for a reciprocating pump like on a pressure washer.

theBald1 if you need to lift water higher than the max height on the curve then you can set two pumps in series. If you notice in some of my other videos, I set the pump down in the pond and it’s lifting and effective 20’ or more (figuring on kinks in the line as en effective footage). And I notice this on the performance. They don’t pump the max rated ~15,000 gph. If you have to lift higher than the max height you could run two pumps in series. The first one feeds the second one. This shouldn’t cause any sort of issue of too high pressure as excess flow rate will just move through the upper pump. I’ve never done that, but it could be plumbed in that manner. Just figure each pump as being able to lift that max height. Wanna go 100’ vertical? Maybe need 3 pumps, for example.

Tom Brueggen I use a short intake hose with very little lift.. I need a lot of PSI for what I'm using it for. A gold highbanker needs PSI and also a decent water flow.. I'm using the 2 inch old style pump they had like 2 years ago.. It has 42 PSI

theBald1 well I’m not really familiar with high banking, or any gold mining for that matter (other than what I see on TV) but it sounds like to me volume (flow rate) is your friend. If you want the effect of high pressure to blast material, reduce the ID of your nozzle. I’m sure you know the principal but I’ll reiterate for others. Flow rate is the same. But since your moving the same flow rate through less cross sectional area, the velocity of the water is higher. The pressure is actually lower, essentially 0 once it exits the nozzle, but the impact force of the water moving at a higher velocity is often sensed as pressure. Mass x velocity is force right? Force in pounds. Pounds divided by area is pressure. So a water droplet moving very quickly hitting a small area does impart an effective instantaneous pressure. But it’s velocity that’s driving the equation here. Ha! I’m not trying to school you I promise. More recounting my own fluid dynamics lessons. I am an engineer. I like finding real world examples of nerdy engineer things!

theBald1 actually now that you mention it, stay tuned. I actually just got the pieces to put fire hose nozzles on this pump so I can jet water further to control a large brush pile fire. This pump can move a lot of water. But at low velocity through a 3” hose. We’ll test the limits by reducing the nozzle down to about 3/4-1” and see how far we can jet the water. Hopefully a good distance, because this fire will be HOT!

Yes! It’s designed to move sludge and debris. Depending on the size you get, my 3” pump says it can pass 1” solids. I pump soupy mud with it from time to time. If you have leaves and pine needs like debris those may blind off the can on the end of the hose, but as far as sludge and muck it should be fine

Maybe a silly reply question, but are your hoses backwards. Suction goes on bottom, discharge on top. Also, make sure you have proper non-collapsible hose on suction side. And make sure you fittings on the suction side and your hose doesn’t have any air leaks. If it sucks air anywhere above the fluid level it will have a very hard time getting a prime. Did you put the can on the suction hose end? If not it can suck down in the mud and block itself off.

I have been interested if this would work I have about a .75 acre pond very mucky and sandy on the bottom. I also have a lot of low spots or even a part of the pond I would like filled. You think instead of paying $300 a truckload of sand just make my pond cleaner And get fill at the same time?

@@anthony4742 Such a motor pump, as in the video, can be raised to 2-5 cubic meters of sand per hour. and put sand on the shore. Real performance depends on the type of soil, the presence of large debris, the length of the hose. But you need another motor pump for clean water, which will loosen the bottom. The cost of raised 1 cubic meter of soil costs about $ 10.

Hmmm I have a pressure washer and a small boat....I might just have to combine them both as well as one of these pumps . Rig the pump hose and the pressure washer up to an pole and use it like a mop on the pond....my only worry would be all that agitation causing a fish kill .

Also 2-5 cubic meters is this for the $399 or $899 harbor freight pump

Yeah I carry a gun, some people carry pocket knives some carry guns. It ain't that big a deal if a guy where's a gun and it's visible.
