These are the giant Pittsburgh 1050 Forged Steel jaws Steel bolt cutters. They are surprisingly cheap for the heavy cutters, the steel is not the best but they are much cheaper then some Krenn cutters. It is best to buy these in store because the alignment of the jaws is inconsistent and your want some ones that are straight.

Hunt for a HK Porter at flea markets and garage sales and you are set for life with some of the best equipment available, plus they sell new jaws for everything they make.

Interesting review. They seem to be a strong set of bolt cutters, especially for the price.

I have those as well, only issue I have had is the grips come loose. I took them off, cleaned off the old adhesive, and sprayed them with hairspray then reinstalled. Haven’t had any issues since.

Nice Armstrong Brigantine commercial sheet flooring! That stuff is tough to install, but really long lasting. Good choice. Oh, BTW, thanks for the bolt cutter vid!

That stainless shackle in practice would be nearly bolt cutter proof assuming it was installed somewhere that the ground couldn't be used for leverage

You said they don’t warranty the jaws? I snapped one of the jaws in half, well my father did during an emergency scenario while truck driving and I put it on the counter they said grab a new one, and I was out the door

Do the handles have a strong synthetic rubber smell? I once bought a tool from Harbor Freight that I couldn't keep indoors.

Years back I bought them on sale because they were too inexpensive not to. only used them a few times but found they did not really cut much if any better than my 36" bold cutters? You would think with the size and heft these would cut better than the smaller ones ( those were off shoe bolt cutters I bought 30 + years ago so not a name brand either). My point is that for the size they are not as good as a good set of smaller bolt cutters ( for the most part) I think these have an extra 1/8" capacity over the smaller ones? The one time you need them they are worth having!

no manual bolt cutters offer enough leverage for a shackle that size of a true high grade lock alloy. a hydraulic bolt cutter might even fail.

Why is the cutter needed? Isn't hacksaw a lot more affordable? Can you show how long it will take you to saw through the lock?

@@rtz549 He cut the lock with a hacksaw in about 1 minute in a later video. That is instant for anyone whose job is not cutting locks. I think this bolt cutter is more for burglars who prefer a quiet working environment; Or, government employees who don't give a XXXX for damaging the tools.

The 1050 is not the steel. Its the length, 1050 mm / 42 inches. The 900mm / 36" cutters.

1050 is not the steel,it's the jaw size. (The max size diameter bolt size in millimeters that the jaws can handle) You can fit a 1/2 bolt but it is not recommended. My experience with the Pittsburgh bolt cutters is the jaws are pretty hard , I broke a pair of 36 inch . The jaw cracked after about 50 cuts on galvanized 3/8 chain. Other guys have gotten years of heavy cutting on there's. I then got a pair of 42 inch like yours . I have cut 1/2 U locks and Manny 3/8 inch master locks and all sizes of chain . If you get a good pair ,heat treated 56 to 58 Rockwell C. They will last a very long time. Most bolt cutter jaws are made from A2. And heat treated just under 60 HRC. I did disassemble mine and use high pressure grease on all the pivot points and aligned everything perfectly. I am 230 pounds and can bounce on the handle till I work through a 1/2 Kriptonight U lock. Very little blade damage but it did leave a little spot of day light between the jaws that mostly adjusted out. BTW: 1050 and 1045 are great steel choices for making a trailer ball . FYI: 1050 mm = .41.33xxx of an inch or just over 3/8 of an inch. 3/8 is .375 of an inch. So at .500 of case hardened steel, I abused them, and they survived it pretty well.

@jeffharper410
@jeffharper410 2 жыл бұрын
@@juanbaclavab I don't know , it all depends on the hardness of the jaws and if the jaws can be replaced.
