Cool! I see why you mentioned the importance of that adjustment screw, because it allows you to adjust the "teeth" so they can close like you want, which drastically increases the life of the tool. I found that if you could no longer sharpen the edges because you've done it 10,000 times or something crazy, you can replace that entire "cutting portion" (black area), but they are roughly 60-75% of the cost, so I suppose if it was me, I wouldn't mind buying a second pair FIRST, then buying replacement cutters, so I could compare my handles and know when one needed to stop being used, although of course, bearing that the cost would be offset by money made using the tool. It never hurts to have a backup tool that isn't "as good" and can be "abused" more, if needed.

Yea that is true. It is nice to have a backup. I have seen one really cool looking pair in a video but I have not been able to track them down. The have carbide (or really hard high carbon steel) replaceable jaws an they look mean as hell. forgin video though so may not be avaible in US yes. Check it out here: Testing Abloy 342

"Replacement Blades for Krenn K-Series Bolt Cutters Your Price: $50.00", that's much cheaper, assuming the build quality is up to par. Better for landfills and resource conservation.

Thank you very much for a good, not show of, video. (I had to put the volume very high to hear you though, may be my end?). From one of your reply I'm guessing mine (found from a previous owner may be) had dip dents in its jaws. and the adjusting bolt seems wrong and not holding the setting anymore, yes I'm guessing it must be el chipo from el China. I was lucky though, managed to cut many fence bits I had to, (but only 3 and 6mmm). I may not need it anymore but was curious about restoring it. Thanx again. :)

My boltcutters got damaged from day one. When I looked at it today, I noticed it got damaged on one blade only. Looking at it closer, the side that got damaged was sharpened to a point (but not sharp enough to cut your finger). The other side had a flat spot across the blade, no damage. I don't have adjuster screws to adjust the blades closer, but there's stoppers towards the handle area I can trim down to get the blades closer. I was just looking for tips on sharpening. Thanks.

I don't have an adjustment screw like that. Both large bolts move the cutters in and out. Clockwise to move in.

@@reckedo Good advice for lathes; I personally don't enjoy having the cartilage forcibly cut off of the back of my fingers. It doesn't hurt at first but it hurts a lot like a day into healing. You should use leather gloves when using an angle grinder.

Great idea and video! Might want to wear a face shield though. Cutting wheels can sometimes (if you have very bad luck) fragmate and blow up if used on their faces as opposed to their circumfurence. Haha although I'm sure we've all been guilty of doing it from time to time!

You are a wiz with an angle grinder, Wayne. I would have to take the jaws off the handles and do them on a bench grinder. With a pot of water for dip cooling.

hey I have a pair of record 942 bolt cutters just leaves a mark on what ever ur cutting the blade appears to be flat would this work for my record bolt cutters
@waynewinton
@waynewinton 10 жыл бұрын
Depends on the steel. High quality bolt cutters like the HK ones shown here will sharpen and the edge will last a good long tome. Cheepy ones like the ones made in China you can sharpen and this will improve the cutting preformance but they will become dull quickly. In short .... it cant hurt to sharpen them. Good luck!

i have a cheap cutter nothing wrong it just has a litter space between jaws can u show how to remove space it does not adjust screw
@drakedorosh9332
@drakedorosh9332 5 жыл бұрын
Our HIT cutters adjust by turning the large bolts clockwise to get closer. They have arrows and tick marks to indicate adjustment. You will need to loosen the nuts on the opposite side and tighten them when you finish.
@davetaylor2449
@davetaylor2449 9 жыл бұрын
Why would you say if I bent them. Did I say I bent them? All I did was take every bolt and nut apart, cleaned the bolts and nuts, lubricated the bolts, then put it back together. Now when I try to close them to the closed position, they do not close consentrically, they just seem to flop every which way. Can't really explain it properly. But they are useless now that I tried to take care of them. Story of my life, killed them with kindness.

+David VanMeter thats prolly because the different bolts have different wearspots and wearpatterns. it seems impossible but having these tollerances change may make it flopy even if it wasnt before. but since you didnt change the shape of any of the parts you can take it apart again and change it untill it fits better then before. also what he said
