I feel for you! A large axe is not great for felling trees! That’s really hard work! I have lots of trees for you to practice on.

Keep help but wonder from personal experience if this was one of those cement trees, or a dull axe, or both... I've been victim to both

It was just a poplar tree so I have to imagine it was just a dull axe. I took a grinder to it later and it cuts better now. The double axe was way better.

Your angle of attack was not consistent with the hb axe. Better with the double bit.
