Great video review! I've been looking for a reasonably priced alternative for a spinner/breaker. Glad to see the Harbor Freight one works well.

Older vid I know but a tip for those who are a bit heavy handed and break the punch tip. Go to the bench grinder and take a little off the rivet you are going to punch out . This will thin it and weaken it so your pressure will be easier in the tool.

Watching those rivets deform on the punch and round on the spinner was so cool. I’m getting more into chainsaw milking and need 36 inch ripping chains. Only problem is the cheapest chains go for more than $40 a chain! Hoping this can get me some extra chains and save money

Looks nice, I make up my own ripping chains from rolls, but just grind a bit and use a punch and hammer for breaking. A ball peen hammer for forming the rivets. Mostly sharpen with a file but have a HF grinder for chain that gets damaged by embedded metal or rock.

Do you know where I can find replacement breaker tips? They do commonly break or wear out over time and iv always used oregon breakers that i could find the replacement parts but I cant seem to find the replacement parts for this one

i bought one - broke one of the tool bits on the first use.... i have no idea how u got a nice rivet produced when your spinning bit is not even concave

Where did you buy new rivets and chain links?

I've bought one of these . I'm pretty happy with the engineering and general robustness of it it, but ... those plastic 'discs' which I would've thought were there to align the chain and keep it square through the rivetting process just don't seem to do that. If the chain runs through these 'guides' it just isn't in a straight line while the rivet's being spun. In your demonstration it appears that you ignore making the chain ride on the discs and simply set the chain up square between the two formers. I'm also thinking that by ignoring the discs might just be the way to do it. I'm led to wonder just what the hell those discs are for.

I still don’t know how to set up the spinner head versus the anvil. Obviously the hex shaped tool has to go in the spinner BUT… One end of it is perfectly flat. The other end has a sharp edged slot that just barely accepts the end of an unspun rivet. The flat side doesn’t do much of anything to the rivet when spun, as I expected. The end with the sharp edged slot just pares metal filings off the rivet when spun, instead of flattening it. Also the slotted end broke off the first time I used it. On the other hand, the anvil has a round depression on its face that seems like it would be designed for spinning and flattening a rivet. But of course it only fits in the screw/compression/anvil side of the tool. I just have the feeling that I am missing something really obvious. Help?

They no need for the hammer man you just don't squash it. You are done if you can pass tour them mail over it you've done enough . if it catches your thumb nail you need just a little more . that first chain was fine you need you a good place you an set at mount your machine and have your chain where it don roll on you it takes just a little more though and you can slap one together in a couple of minutes

Make sure that you can't get your fingernail under the edge of the spun rivet.

The rivet spinner broke on the first chain I tried. I don't trust the chinese hardening.
