Thanks for the video. I bought one nice ax and one cheaper one at Home Depot and I never use it because of the slippery handle and to wide of an edge for the ax. This was super helpful because I never thought of doing this to get my cheap ax like my German one. But I got myself a project for Sunday. Thanks for the helpful tips. Love videos like this. Knowing what you know about yourself it's important to recognize that you have it within yourself to become a leader and show others the way like Cody has. If you've never considered it you might think about the military, it gives you skills, family, and money. The military is full of young people who got dumped on by life starting out and have since joined and found each other and now share a brotherhood that lasts until they die. Just a thought. It's true. Search for linseed oil spontaneous combustion and you'll find several videos on KZfaq. I lost a job once cause my boss burned down the building this way.

@@VoidySan it’s from the fumes becoming concentrated in the air, in a small or enclosed space. It’s not spontaneous in the manner that you’re thinking, but those fumes will start to generate enough heat that even the smallest spark will set them off.

Linseed oil rags can spontaneously combust, not all oil, running the used rag in water so its wet, is enough to stop it.

Add hay to the spontaneous combustion list.. whats more weird is that hay is more likely to combust when it's wet.

Not even kidding. I wish I'd found this channel sooner. I don't remember much about my dad. I do know that my mom was right to leave. I know she did her best, however, there are a ton of things a boy needs to learn that moms just don't understand. I was bullied relentlessly as a kid and adolescent. My mom wondered why. You're bigger than those other boys. They should be scared of you. Well, I've done some thinking. It was because I was bigger than them, and because I wouldn't fight back. If I'd have thrown one good punch and took the punishment (from their friends and suspension from school for a day or two) I would've sent a message. I don't want to hurt you, but I will if you force me to. That last part never happened. It just never occurred to me. Outlast them, then the teachers would stop them and punish them. That's their job, right? Right...? Guess not. Luckily, military life and fatherhood brought it out somewhat. So, while I don't want to engage, I will now if forced. That was a hard lesson to learn on my own though. That and locking washers. That's a brilliant idea. Good for you!! I'm 25 from Wisconsin. And I enjoy using man powered tools. Or anything vintage or antique for that matter. I don't find any relation to anyone in particular. People don't understand me. I tell people I do what feels right, money doesn't motivate me the motivate or reasons for doing something and it's purpose is my motivation. But I can't find anyone who relates but that don't cause me to change In order to have mutual friends or aquatence. Keep it how it should be my friend and don't feel pressure to "keep up with the times"

I bought a reciprocating saw there for approx $25 about 10 years ago - that darn thing is still working perfectly. I use it for an hour or so every couple of months. If it had only lasted a couple years I would have been happy with it.

I bought a fish spatula from a well know kitchen retailer. They put a super sticky price label right on the metal. I couldn't get it off so I got a refund. They agreed it was unusable. And who wants to use a spatula that had lot of solvents applied?

Considering you can spend 175 bucks on a plane that doesnt have a flat sole or a sharp blade, ill spend an hour or 2 to make a 12 dollar hatchet perform well.

My tools don’t have as interesting a story but my grandpa was a carpenter and I inherited his entire garage full of tools, half of which are older than I am and some older than my parents even to the point I can’t find replacement parts for them so I just maintain the parts they have as much as I can

I agree 100% with you on this. I have a cheap all steal coleman hatchet I bough years ago. Last week went out and bought some hand files and reshaped the head on it so I can use it to split small pieces of wood for my smoker. Already thinking about my next purchase of a hatchet/tomahawk style piece for camping. I cherish these videos and stories deeply.

You know, Its a place where even the person with a small budget can get some decent tools. Not all are good, but kudos to Cody for showing us the good ones.

Can be used for lots of stuff. Break open a coconut. Use as a meat cleaver. Hammer. Rough carving of a log. Let your imagination run like chips flying off that axe.

I like to find nice sticks, dress them down, strip 'em, stack them to dry for a couple of years, shape, sand and oil them. Give them as gifts. Axe justified. 🤓

I have done that with a couple of Ryobi workshop tools here were I live in South Africa. They are cheap entry level and kinda nasty but with a bit of engineering savvy I end up saving more than the next level up!
