Dales, if you look at the construction, anchor points, no door liners and paint job on the Husky you will find it is made a lot cheaper than the Yukon. Just something to remember when you do these videos. You said you get a power strip with the Husky, but without getting door liners you will spend another $50 buck or so for them when you get them with the Yukon free. It's kind of a trade off. I guess I would rather have the door liners because my garage has plenty of outlets and I could add the power strip to the cab any time. Also the Yukon is expandable with several side and top cabinet options where the Husky doesn't have that capability. If you look at how the Husky only has one slider on the bottom doors and how they use sheet metal with a couple threads to mount handles and their doors along with no top support except for the wood you can see how they are built much cheaper than the Yukon. The Yukon used rib nuts instead of sheet metal to mount things like handles and wheels where the Husky uses spot welded sheet metal with only a couple threads for the bolts to grab. The Yukon uses the rib nuts which have eight to ten thread and are sandwiched to the body of the cabinet forming a much stronger connection. One last thing to mention is the The Yukon uses much larger bolts to fasten wheels and handles making it much stronger as well as the wood top is secured with bolts to the cabinet where the Husky is just laid on top ready to warp.

Thanks Dale for mentioning my modifications! I always knew there was much more free space on my tool chest than I realized. It was a fun project and it's still serving me well. Per your tip on making the top lid quieter when it closes, I went to my local farm supply store and picked up some self-adhesive small rubber window seal made by MD (part #02576) and stuck it underneath across the top lip. Now it doesn't make a loud noise when I close it.

Another thing worth mentioning is that ALL NINE drawers on the Husky are only rated for 100 lbs while the 2 bottom drawers on the Yukon are rated for 200 lbs! So it depends on what you are valuing-more space, plus a power strip or holding 200 lbs more weight in the unit. Also, I’m not sure the same is true for this 24” deep model but I watched a review comparing the 18” wide Husky with the 18” Yukon, and it seemed that the Yukon was made with better construction, including the wood top being bolted down so it doesn’t warp and the metal pieces held together by riv-nuts and longer bolts, which should provide more durability. Here is the link for the review I’m referencing, so you can do your own comparison: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gKyfqNOI2a-vlqM.html. I just couldn’t tell you if the Husky 24” has incorporated those improvements in construction as were evident on the original Yukon 18” deep and not on the Husky 18” deep.

What you need to do is turn it over to look underneath, pull the drawers and look inside at the construction. The build quality of the Yukon is infinitely superior to the husky in every way. That husky box may be a little bigger, but it's built like a Childs toy. You have to look beyond some cheap glitzy advertising and consider quality.
@DaleLucid
@DaleLucid 3 жыл бұрын
The point of the video was Harbor Freight's inaccurate comparison. If your argument is true AND that is all that one is concerned with then I would have to agree. However Husky has more room, soft close drawers and a power strip with USB ports. In my opinion that makes Harbor Freight's claim questionable at best. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for watching the video.

@@DaleLucid he's right. The construction quality on the Yukon is superior. I saw another review that showed the construction. The Yukon has threaded fittings that are basically riveted in solidly while the Husky has spot welded fittings that are cheap sheet metal and smaller bolts, also their 200 pound drawers only have 1 slide while the Yukon has 2. Harbor Freight didn't make that comparison so why would anyone else. In this instance HF claims to be the same. They aren't. Thanks for calling attention to that. It's something else different. @DaleLucid

Both are powder coated. I did double check to verify. The Husky has 21 guage steel frame. The guage of steel on the panels is not given. Harbor Freight doesn't give that information on US General or Yukon line. The Husky us deeper than the Yukon so will hold about 36% more than Yukon. The Husky also weighs 52 lbs more than the Yukon but it is 6 in. deeper so you decide. Good luck and thank you for watching.

The 56" standard is too flimsy but the 56" Industrial was my pick. It has the features that USG doesn't. The USG may slightly edge the Husky in both material guage and slightly in build quality. You're bumming me out because I just got the Yukon. But I needed a narrow chest for a particular purpose, so I would have bought it anyway. I have 3 US Generals, and when I opened the Yukon crate, I saw that the build quality was about the same. The side handle on the Yukon is a little less fancy, but the wood top is a nice touch, and it's made well. Drawer metal is the same thickness.

Yeah... Husky tool boxes are cheaper, but they are not built nearly as durable as US General & Yukon. I generally avoid Harbor Freight, as all my tools are Dewalt USA, Porter Cable USA, Delta USA, Craftsman USA, Demel USA, Estwing USA, Vise Grip USA, Channel Lock USA, Laguna, modern Dewalt, modern Craftsman & some Stanley... but I was genuinely surprised at the build quality of the US general & Yukon boxes. In my search for a tool cart/chest... I looked at Craftsman, Kobolt, & Husky. All are 16 gauge steel, most of them have plastic casters & the casters are mounted on 16 gauge steel. I went with a US General 56", because... 13 gauge steel, metal casters, & thick steel reinforcement where the casters are mounted.

Can only get it online which cannot be used with the in-store card. Not even ship to store. Not used to that. It seems like much of the return and warranty stuff is hit and miss these days. And yes I think HF dropped the ball with the jack stand recall in the way they handed the reimbursement. By the time corporate made it right it was to late. Consumers were to jilted. Thanks for sharing your experience.

The husky is better built as well. They used a thicker steel for it and the drawers don't feel so flimsy. I love HF for many many things but the Yukon line started with a 9 drawer, solid built tool cabinet to the two door, one top drawer tool cabinet then the 9 drawer reappeared BUT - not as solid as the first. When it came back they used a thinner steel at the same price as the first one they released. I wanted that one badly but now I'm going to HD for the Husky. Plus the husky has true detent for the drawers so they won't just slide open when you move it while unlocked.
