A LBS owner in Greenfield Ma, comically renowned as Bicycle Bob, and I used to laugh every day at how fortunate we were to have discovered the joy of swinging our leg over a toptube. Doing so turned us into the happy 8 year-olds we remembered before all the grownup responsibilities, burdens, frustrations and complications of adulthood. For almost 30 years we smiled, laughed and "weeeeeee'd" (on the descents, at least) our way through life. I miss him very much (cancer!).

Forget highschool football programs... This country would be far better off is high schools had mandatory cycling programs. Riding a bike is truly one of the great life experiences a human can have. It's also something every single student can do, unlike football, where only +/-30 kids get to actually be on the team. And people can cycle their whole life, unlike football, where (at best) you'll be in a bar 'remembering the good ol days' 30 years later.

@@bikebudha01 Not denying the cost of football (not to mention, cost to young people's brains). But the field would have been put in place when government funded public schools better, whereas the bike project was new, in an area controlled by teacher-hating, education-disdaining republicans.

Can't they just be flat across so pumping hard, you just lean-up against them and have firm ability to push off? Then swivel a little and so they go flat, so you can just sit. I don't believe they were designed for any known terrestrial form of life.
