All of those artists are harder to find, true. In my region.. Commodores and Iron Butterfly are easier. I had to drive to San Francisco to find HP Lovecraft. I would add Savoy Brown records, and Clean Grand Funk to the "hard to find" Nice video. Are those 1st press Canadian for Bowie ? Man Who Sold The World on the original art would be a tough one to find.. And Bowie's debut on UK press. Nice video.. Cheers from Nevada ☺

Hunky Dory came to mind as soon as I read the title of this video, before you even asked the question. I started buying vinyl in ‘93 and never saw a single copy in the wild until about 2005. First one I ever saw was a VG+ repress from the mid-70’s, thought it was an original at the time. I feel like I’ve seen about 5-10 since then.

Great video and a good subject- I appreciate that this wasn't another endless "show and tell" video about records in your collection. The list for certain first issue records and specific pressings still available in 2024 is probably fairly long and only growing with each passing year. Some, like the first 2-3 Bowie LPs have been rare for decades already. In the US, Led Zep II- the infamous RL/SS cut is out there, but always beat to death, unless you are able to have deep pockets for a clean copy. Increasingly more often, what were once common titles have become hard to find rarities, like Buckingham/Nicks, some ELO albums, particularly the earlier ones, first 2/3 Little Feat LPs, Zappa/Mothers LPs, and yes, all manner of Beatles LPs, particularly the White Album. What I also never see in the wild are 90s LPs, as they were pressed in such small quantities that everyone hangs onto those. Some of these harder to find LPs can be found on-line, but you have to ask questions, look at seller feedback, hopefully see some pics and be willing to pay up for them. This differs based on where you live, of course.

It's funny you mentioned Troubke Man. That's the very first album I thought of. I've been digging for it for years. A few weeks ago, I finally found one. Extremely clean jacket. Checked the wax- first side pristine, flipped it over- 2nd side had a nasty scratch the length of the record. Bummer. The search remains.

I spent several years working for two of the biggest independent stores in Los Angeles & Low was never traded in as not many people purchased it but those who did loved it. Nick Drake albums were rarely traded in & were out of print new. The first two Quiet Riot albums were Japanese only & were highly sought after. Those are just a few examples .

Interesting topic, as always Dan. First UK issues of all Bowies' classic 70s albums in good shape always command decent prices here ( I guess even more so in US and Canada)..the prices went through the roof after his death, and I've seen many dealers cynically exploit this for artists that have passed. Princes' albums are getting harder to find at all in any shape..I occasionally see Sign o the Times but it is usually not great condition wise. Funnily enough, I saw a copy of Marvin Gayes' Let's Get it On at a recent fair, but the condition wasn't quite right for what the vendor was asking. Have a great weekend.

Let’s Get It On might be the hardest to find actually Rob. In my view. You are spot on about Prince. I sold an early one at a fair recently and it was one of the first albums to go. He ( like Bowie ) more popular than ever. 🎉

Hey, I featured "Dusty In Memphis" in one my videos earlier this year. I think it was the first time I'd seen it in the wild and I snagged it. I have two copies of The Kinks "Arthur." I found my first copy over a decade ago at Monster Music in Charleston, S.C. This is a US Reprise Stereo first press from 1969, Side One is NM and side two is VG for whatever reason. I recently found a PRT Spanish copy of "Arthur" at Sounds Good in Port St. Lucie, Fla. and that pressing sounds much better than the '69 Reprise one, but it doesn't have the gatefold or the cool cartoon lyric sheet insert. Sounds Good still has a sealed Reprise copy of "Arthur," but sadly and good for me that not many people in the Port St. Lucie area care about The Kinks or psychedelic music in general. I also have two MONO US Capitol rainbow copies of "Sgt. Pepper." Both are prob in solid VG condition. I'll prob sell one, but I have to keep the one I bought from my guitar teacher when I was 14, and it has all the inserts. Thanks for the video, I'll take a look around your channel today!

@@dotsloops7486 Right on! I try to stop into record stores whenever I'm out of town, as that seems to really shake things up and help me find things that aren't readily available in my area. These tend to be albums that true record collectors seem to seek out. It's too much for a lot of folks, but this is the vinyl community and we like to keep the records spinning and just tired of the same old same old.

Bowie lps in my part of the world are still pretty common but the 70s RCA pressing plant being local probably helps in that regard. You can still get a first or early press clean copy for around £15 to £30 depending on the lp off the right local dealer. My pal just recently paid £10 for a Hunky Dory in the laminated sleeve at a record fair! He previously got one for £5! No such luck for me yet. A clean Dusty In Memphis was elusive for me and bearing in my mind I'm in the UK. Got a vg copy in the early 90s but finally got a nm about 2 years ago. Like buses I found another nm copy a couple of months later! The increase in certain lps in the last 3 or so years is very noticeable. I bought a perfect US copy of Troubled Man for £8 approx. 4 years ago off a dealer who uses Discogs median so judging on current Discogs median he'd now charge £25 to £30. Proof that the right records are a great investment Dan 😁. Cheers Nige

@@dotsloops7486 The main reason those ones are very hard to come by is because they came out in 1991 and 1995. Not a lot of vinyl was being pressed in the US then, and even though they were popular albums, they were mainly sold on cd and cassette. There are very limited amounts of the vinyl, and they go for hundreds of dollars

Ah Dan these dots & loops videos are getting rarer to find SO SUBSCRIBE! Seriously though can it be that alot of records are trashed particularly those associated with drugs and alcohol through bad treatment? Punk, reggae, heavy metal to name three genres. How do they now decide what's repressed as some are in abundance others not so. In UK I'd say Black Sabbath in decent nick are rare whereas tons of deep purple. The 90s Bowie is tough to get here too as was either such small quantities or not pressed on vinyl.
