Frenchy and the Punk

Frenchy and the Punk

Күн бұрын

Scott Helland is an American born musician, songwriter and artist. He has been writing, recording and performing music since his early teens. He has over 25 recordings out including 5 albums with his folk punk cabaret duo Frenchy and the Punk who perform a non-traditional eclectic mix of musical styles and his solo and albums as Scott Helland Guitarmy of One (instrumental/punk/world).
He was a founding member of the infamous western MA hardcore punk bands Deep Wound, (which included Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis and Lou Barlow,) and Outpatients (with his brother Vis Helland). Both bands released critically acclaimed underground recordings that still sell today to punk record collectors and aficionados of the hardcore music scene here in the U.S, Asia and Europe. Both bands have also been chronicled in the recent books American Hardcore; A Tribal History, Choosing Death; The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grind Core and F***ed Up and Photocopied; Art of the Punk Movement. Deep Wound is also listed in the Encyclopedia of Punk and their music is in the film, 'All Ages' about the Boston hardcore punk scene. Scott has shared the stage with some of the scene's most loved bands including Black Flag, GBH, Husker Du, Cro-Mags, Necro's, Corrosion of Conformity, DOA, Gang Green, Jerry's Kids, SSD, Agnostic Front, Scream, The Freeze, Leeway, MDC, Raw Power, Seige, The Dicks and JFA.

This is without a doubt the best punk rock record collection video on KZfaq. I go back to this every other day. No other people on KZfaq that showcase their rare punk rock records like this one.

And here is the live Scott Helland post. Thank you Scott for all the wonderful music you've given us. I just left comments on Light Blue and Fight because I dreamed about Outpatients last night. (and thanks to Frenchy and the Punk for posting this just 4 months ago.)

Finally, I come across a good record collection video on KZfaq. Thanks for putting this up. Not only have you got your hands on some great underground bands but also having shared the stage with them with your own band (Deep Wound) is equally impressive.

I almost fainted when you held up the Neos 7 inch because it's so rare. I'm from Vancouver and I can't even find a copy. Though I heard Joey Shithead from D.O.A., his label Sudden Death may re-issue both 7 inches on cd. (rumour has it)

You are super lucky, I wish I was around when this stuff came out. I can't find anything by these bands, except minor threat, black flag, and the bad brains. If you every want to get rid of some of your records let me know ( yet I doubt, you would). I only have a few hardcore records because they are pretty rare where I am. Great collection. I wish I could have that teen idols ep. Ian McKay is one of my biggest influences.

That 'Depraved' record is actually an Angry Samoans EP called 'The Queer Pills'. That's one I still have and cherish, along with a good bunch you show here, though your collection blows mine away. For a limey at the time I did pretty well for US hc records though.

A curious thing, though, when I got into US punk and HC, basically after hearing 'Let Them Eat Jellybeans', 82, I think, and seeing Black Flag late 81 and then again 83, I lost interest in most of the UK stuff, the so called 'UK82' stuff. I had virtually every one of those UK records you showed, and saw many of those bands, but stopped listening to most of them, and sold most of them early 90s. Just not the same vitality for me as most US stuff. Not as sharp, not as 'let rip'. England is still shaking off its 'uptightness' to this day, though we've got good stuff going for us too. Maybe it's a 'grass is greener' thing. I met people in the US who were so 'blown away' by the bands I'd seen, met, supported, etc., but I'd have rather been in the US.
@AngloSaks666

Kept all my Discharge records though. Dead Cities too. Oh yeah, and 'One Law For Them'. UK Subs too, though I sold most of those coloured EPS because I needed the money, but kept that 'Countdown' one, because 'Plan of Action' is a great song, and it's not coloured vinyl so... (though I didn't get so much for those records really, a friend In NY sold them for me, not really worth it in the end, but you sell stuff when you're hungry), Had to keep 'Bad Man' by Cockney Rejects. Loved Deep Wound & Outpatients, by the way. I still have 'Bands That Could Be God'.

As a brit myself I couldn't agree more, Discharge were the only unique UK '82 band along with Crass and Conflict, though the anarcho stuff differs strongly from UK Hardcore I guess. Though we got the '77 stuff bang on, there's no doubt that the USA perfected hardcore punk, much better than UK bands other than Crass.
