Don 't even own 10% of this gear… but the guy in that video filled my mind with ideas that can apply to my set up perfectly well! Thanks a lot!!! :)

So I'm watching this again Jan.2019 ... been using the Dbox, and considering the 2Bus+. The versatility is really enjoyable, however, I'm paying attention to what's going on in the ITB('in the box') vs. analog summing world. Hybrid mixing seems the way to go for now, but sampling is sounding better and better 'on the way in' that it makes me wonder if the future is all ITB. Btw...FAB is so impressive with his skill and knowledge...just amazing.

Wow that is amazing and a very crystal clear explanation. Maybe one day I will have a dedicated converter but until then I am using my 6i6 focusrite interface! Wooooo

The 2-Bus actually has 2 sets of outputs which are identical to each other. They are labeled REC Out and MON Out. You can use the MON out to feed your monitor controller, or any device that you choose, but the important part is actually to use the REC out to bring the mix back into protools via line inputs on your interface (in the video its the lynx), and then record that mix. Then you need to monitor that recorded mix, and for that you need another stereo d/a or an additional output. See 3:38

That's great. Thanks for all the answers.

@frontgarcia Yes, in order to hear the last step in the mixing process you'd need another d/a converter. Honestly, if you have that interface you might be better off getting the D-Box. Check out our other videos for info on the D-Box. But if you want the 2-Bus, you would just use your 8 analog outs of the Steinberg to sum into the 2-Bus, and bring the stereo outs onto two line ins on your interface to record the mix. This is where you'd need another converter to listen back to your mix

neat stuff. i learned something. now i just need to figure out how to own the 2-bus
@dangerousmusic12 жыл бұрын
You are going to take the stereo output of the Equinox and bring it into 2 line ins of the Apollo, and then set up a new stereo track in Logic that you will use to record that mix. From there you need a way of monitoring that mix, so you need to output that track to a digital output if you have another converter to plug it into, or if you have a spare set of line outputs that you aren't using for summing you can use those and send them to your monitor controller
@dangerousmusic12 жыл бұрын
@frontgarcia yes the Steinberg will be just fine. In the future you may feel like you want a better stereo converter to record the mix back in, and you can always upgrade when you have the extra cash

@causindrama The D-Box is the same quality as the 2-Bus, it just has less channels. And it has a built in D/A converter, so you wouldn't need to buy another one. If you buy the 2-Bus, you already have d/a converters in your 003 to go out to the summing box, and a/d to go back into protools, you just need another stereo d/a to monitor the mix after it gets recorded (which the D-Box has built in)
@diversionesconvenuslausinr87912 жыл бұрын
where are you universal audio apollo? hahahah, finally lynx!!!
@dangerousmusic12 жыл бұрын
@causindrama You need a converter because what is coming out of protools is digital audio, and in order to mix in the analog domain you need digital to analog converters. Then you need analog to digital converters to record back in. Your 003 will handle both of those (only 8 channels though) so the only thing you would need is another stereo d/a to listen back to the mix. You might be better off witha D-Box. Check out our other D-Box videos to learn more about it.

Thanks a lot for the quick answer. Just to be sure I understood everything right Both the REC Out and MON Out can be used simultanelusly: one to feed Pro Tools and other to feed my monitor system and the signal recorded is the same sent to the monitors (as long I don't use any plug-ins before printing the mix in PT). I can use an Aurora 16 to feed the 16 2-Bus Inputs and any stereo out of my Digi 003 to hear the mix from Pro Tools if I want to. Is that correct? Thanks again.
@dangerousmusic12 жыл бұрын
@causindrama yeah absolutely, a lot of people use that setup.

Great and very informative video... there's just one thing I can't figure out: if he is using all the 16 available outputs (as I suppose he is) to go from Pro Tools to the Aurora 16 and from there to the 2-Bus, which output is he using for monitoring the Mix ( the final Pointing Fingers) track. I mean, I know he is using the MONITOR (Stereo) output as he shows in the video, but what I can't understand is from what interface is this output coming from? How did he get it in Pro Tools?
@JSprayaEntertainment8 жыл бұрын
So he has an Aurora 16 for mix down and he has an audio interface ? or is that his an Aurora 16 ?

I see that you named the bus track "print" but which bus track is that exactly? does it matter? Is that up to me to select on the I/O settings?
@randonnelson735510 жыл бұрын
What about using hardware inserts? What part of the signal do you send it? Pre 2 bus? Post 2 bus?

hi i'm using the dbox with pt10 and an mbox pro, everything fine except i can't monitor what i'm printing, when in DAW mode, when i adjust the trim nob, or if i play with a plugin on my aux track where the sum is coming in i don't hear these changes, i can see the fader move but can't hear it.... quite frustrating. is there a simple fix?
@dangerousmusic11 жыл бұрын
Yup, that's correct

@DangerousMusicAudio Thanks for the tutorial. A related question. I have the D-Box and Steinberg's MR816csx. Both are connected as shown in the tutorial. Yet, when I press the DAW button I don't hear anything (using Cubase). Are you suggesting that I need another pair of d/a converters ? Different than those in the MR816csx? If that's the case, how and where do I connect them? Thank you in advance !

@DangerousMusicAudio i saw that video. and that was my next question. I felt that was an awesome box but from what i have been reading and hearing the 2bus is the better way to go. Is it not. I am Just trying to improve my sound dramatically via a 2 bus or dbox. if I buy a 2 bus are you saying i would only need 1 da/ad converter vs 2.
@causindrama12 жыл бұрын
I guess my question is this. If im running pro tools, why do I need a da/ad converter to go into the dangerous 2bus on xlr connection. Second question to run this set up properly would i need 1 or 2 ad/da converters. Im a little confused. But love the opportunity to expand my current set up wit an 003r and control 24

@DangerousMusicAudio AWESOME! Can i use the dbox with a digi002 and a contol 24. which is what i have right now.

The concept is the same, but the program has differences. Unfortunately we are not Studio One users, but contact us via email or phone and we'll help you figure it out.

What is feeding the Aurora 16? How dos the sound get from the DAW to the A to D converter?

+1 Have the same question. And no video about setup summing covers that. Also I'm wondering how to rote all those different AD\DA boxes in drivers simultaneously?

The interface feeds the converter.
