Hardwiring a Zimo sound chip into a Bachmann class 20, with sound, lights and a capacitor
A little job I did for a mate. All the lights are independent so you can switch the reds off altogether or just have them illuminated at each end when stabled. The cab light is also independent and switches itself off after speed step 0. All the lights were programmed using JMRI and Zimos excellent Swiss Mapping function.
The sounds are Paul Chetters drivable Class 20 sounds. there is no less than SIX complete sound sets on the chip!! tailored to suit small, medium and large layouts.
I still need to play with it to get the best driving style. But just like the real thing you can have lots of thrash when setting off with a heavy load, then back the revs off as you get under way. Fantastic!!
The loco was controlled by my phone via JMRI and a SPROG.

Thanks Andy, It does sound even better when you get used to it. That was the first couple of minutes playing, trying to juggle a controller and a camera!

Many thanks: I've just tried blu tac, and then some double sided tape, and kind of pulled sideways, and out; it's worked a treat. Many thanks for the help!

Wow, what great sounds. It looked like a bit a delicate work there though. I love sound in my Locos, but prefer to buy them that way. You are a talented and brave man.

Cheers mate. They are bout £85ish. Digitrains sell them and are also very knowledgeable about them. I like them because they have more functions than the equivalent ESU product.

The sounds bloodmarine are real good I would go as far as better than swd and if you get them from digitrax you get 6 sound sets I spoke to Paul the guy who does the sound for them at Doncaster the other month and I was very impressed

Looks and sounds awesome mate, but it seems like too much effort for me although i am looking at adding sound to my locos. How much are the zimo sound chips out of interest and how do they compare to others on the market?

The sounds are great I like what you've done with the lights I've just bought a class 20 with sound but no lights is it hard the program the light to go on and off with movement. Regards ian

HI you are supposed to be able to pull them out by sticking blu tac to them and then pulling. But that didn't work for me!! So I teased them out with a very thin blade down the side. Be careful though because the blade might shatter!!
