If people had to kick-start a New Harley you would never see one on the road . God bless this kid he is smart enough to own a Classic Motorcycle not a rubber band Asia Harley . He just needs to learn the trick to catch the right part of the stroke to kick ..You notice the time he lets it have a little air it starts..

don't rob a bank on an ironhead
@Namesakes.unit-x-10sq105 жыл бұрын
@billyfromtheusa I think robbing a bank with bikes Is a good idea. If you are s small group with one motorcycle each (a street fighter or motard) and carry a big duffel bag each during rush hour, the popo cant catch up and you split the money so if 1 gets caught it isn't such a big deal.

The best sounding of all the Harley's motors ever made but also the most troublesome vibrating shaking motors. I had one and one was enough...everything on it had to be locktited .. also the ironheads came with solid lifters so the valves had to be adjusted around every 4 thousand miles. The oil cap gets very hot on your leg too..
@tylerwalsh75872 жыл бұрын
That valve adjustment would be a dealbreaker for me.

Cool bike man , I read some of the comments about how you started it I’ve been kicking bikes for 30 years I think your fine you can regard the distributor a bit but make sure you kick all the way through and don’t lift until its started, good vid thanks
@flhxs83646 жыл бұрын
Hey brotha, here is a great trick I use on my older bikes. Get a magnetic pickup for your breaker point setup. If you haven't noticed, that carb you have (Bendix?) will cause your bike to "sneeze," and load up on fuel. It will also backfire and kick back on the kickstart (I destroyed my ankle this way). If you replace the points, this will save your ankle and it will start much more easily. Make sure you get your timing right though. Good luck!

I had a 1974 XLCH sportster for my first Harley. It was a mess when I got it,so parted it onto garage floor COMPLETELY. Reassembled it how I wanted it. Was definitely a one kick bike! Crammed it up with a set of Andrews "Y" grind cams,left the electric start on the floor too! Was the fastest,smoothest run in sportster around! Cleaned up all the imperfections in the heads,polished exhaust ports,left swirl marks from burr bit in the intake ports for better fuel/air mix. Turn he idle up a bit on that sporty,you're beating up the valves unnecessarily!

I bet you wish you had not asked anybody anything on here. I have a 77 and Wouldn't put mine on here. Definitely a lot of a holes on here. Your bike looks good ,actually you had no trouble in starting it. Kick starting will come too you as you do it. Always push the kicker all the way thru and wait till the motor come to a stop before you let it go back to kick position. Avoiding a kick back and messing your leg up. I agree idle it up some. Everything else will come to you as you ride. Have a safe one on the road. I hope this helped.
