My wife and I love our new ride! Just have one question; why does it run so darn hot?
Over the last 110 years Harley-Davidson motors have been getting bigger and bigger to create more power and with that comes more heat. Extreme engine heat can be generated when our air-cooled Harley ends up in a day of traffic or even on the road during the summer.
Join the FMH community to access a huge library of instructional Harley repair videos: www.fixmyhog.com/join/.
Solution
One solution is to add a heat exchanger or oil cooler. This simple system will take the oil away from the engine, run it through a series of coils, and with the help of a fan, it will cool the oil before returning it on its’ route through the oil filter. Many systems even have a thermostat that allows the fan to kick on at a set temperature of about 220 degrees.

In this video, Bob and Mark walk you through a Harley Davidson oil cooler installation step by step. They show you all the mounting, plumbing, and even the placement of a “System On” LED.
Sit back grab a cool one and get ready to cool your Hog.

I always love watching your videos. Very professional, very detailed and always includes many useful tips. I'm installing a genuine Harley Davidson oil cooler on my 2014 Breakout CVO. Although less complicated than this aftermarket one on this Road King, I still got many useful tips on the process. Thank you again Bob. You're the best.

I would use some red or blue thread lock to the threads of the led light. I even use some on my battery terminals because of the vibration. Thanks for the video.

Im curious, does the first half of the oil filter adapter sit in a specific position on the motor, or does it have a little amount of rotation?

I’m in Florida I have a 107 Milwaukee 8, it has a oil cooler as I still run @300-316 riding and in stop and go traffic as well as open road. I thought of adding a fan would that help and Is that set @220 so to to try to keep it under 300-316? I’ve been it stop and go in a detour and got up to 369 degrees. Wonder if I don’t have a Thunder max would that fan work or what the best fan to put behind the stock oil cooler or a better oil cooler that’s same dimension says the stock oil cooler that’s better?

@@rmcustom9573 been riding for 30 years, thanks. I just don't understand how a bike as expensive as Harley still uses technology as old as the number of years I've been riding. There's no reason a bike costing 30k should still be air cooled in 2021
