In this episode I install the flywheel bearings into a 1991 Harley Davidson Sportster and select the correct spacer for end play. 1991 Harley Davidson 883 sportster engine build.

You should have bought a extra bearing and use a sanding drum on a drill or die grinder and sand the ID so the setup bearing slides over the shaft. When you get the proper end play then press the other bearing on. Been doing this for rear differential pinion gears for years. Just use the same brand bearing.

That makes perfect sense. Will remember that for if I have to do it again. Thanks for the comment. 🖤

Took a while to work out what you were doing measuring the end float, had to watch it two times but I got there. Nice job and well done on the home made tools. Great work

If you heat the inner race of the first bearing you put on the bearing will slide right down to it's seat.

That's a great idea. Il try that next time. Thanks for the comment. 🖤

You should watch Tatro Machine on KZfaq. He is very educational about Sportster and Harley engines. You seem to be doing good. Much very good information on KZfaq about rebuilding Sportster engines. I'm rebuilding a 1972 XLCH now.

Put the crank in the freezer and heat the bearing up and it will fall in place.

👍😎👍 So..if i dont have a welder or a lathe, ill need to buy that tool..??

Harley want you to buy some expensive tools, or get one of their engineers to do the work for you. I just try to find a work around for these "specialist" or "bespoke" tools that you apparently can't do the work without. Appreciate the comment 🖤

Good simple stuff. I have a 1988 hugger 883 kitted to 1200. Where do you get all the bearings from for a total rebuild. Is there a kit or buy separately.

Hope you put the spacer between those two bearings..... Cuz when you tighten down the sprocket shaft it's going to destroy that bearing and perhaps the case. It comes matched to the bearings.... End play on that shaft doesn't mean anything until you tighten the sprocket on the primary side... 😮

Thanks for the comment. All spacers were installed where needed. All measured to tolerance.
