I ride a DRZ400SM right now (w/ an aftermarket seat), how do the vibrations compare to the DRZ? I find that after riding for any length of time that the vibrations get to me, after a 3h ride I am fatigued. But I am thinking of picking up an 883 just for cruising around, maybe some commuting when the weather is nice.

The look of the bike was the biggest contributing factor for my purchase of this particular model. I am not a big harley guy, but I love the look/feel of this bike. I also got a pretty great deal so it was hard to pass up. I would have considered a Bolt if they had older models

compared to the honda rebel, how is the handling on an 883? and is the weight that noticeable? i have a 1987 rebel and it is 350 pounds. rode my buddy's 500 cc kawasaki once and it felt a lot heavier at 450 pounds but i wasnt scared id drop it at all. i havent test ridden an 883 but want to do so. im just scared i'll drop it.

@nwOutdoorAdventures10 жыл бұрын
Yes, I did compare the two. The two major deciding factors for me were the look of the bike and more importantly the cost. When I bought my Harley I could get a used 2012 with less than 3k miles for under 6k. The bolt was still new and very hard to find used. As a brand I prefer Yamaha and I still like the look of the bolt and with mods I think they (the bolt and iron) can look equally beautiful. To put it simply it was $2k~ cheaper for the Iron when I was looking.
@angelvasquez946810 жыл бұрын

You're a physically fit 5'2" and I'm an old 5'6" :). Actually I had a beautiful Triumph Bonneville SE that I was forced to sell because even the little bit of forward lean required for me to ride it recked havoc on my back and shoulders. I've a question for you, how are you getting +-55mpg? I'm getting about 44~48mpg. I'm not riding it hard or anything and I rarely get above 70 on the freeway to work. I actually don't ride on the street very often either. If you can, can you explain to me how you ride, typically? So I could try to match it. Its not the biggest amount but its a pretty noticeable amount. I've got the 2014 Iron 883 and it has about 1250 miles on it.

I've got 38... I believe it's due to the traffic, I'm using it in the city and I spend a good time on traffic lights. I bought mine 2 weeks ago, didn't do the first check up of a thousand miles yet, maybe the engine is not yet optimized.

+Adventure Rider While I've never ridden the Iron 883 specifically, generally Harley's are very comfortable and long distance travel. That's one thing that Harley's are known for and one of their main selling points. You will be riding in a nice, upright position.

andres88ec Personally, I would buy a cheaper (and lighter) bike to start with. But if you are not worried about the money I would go to a dealership and take one for a test ride, its the best way to know if it is right for you!
@andres88ec9 жыл бұрын
which motorcycle would you recommend?
@nwOutdoorAdventures9 жыл бұрын
andres88ec Personally, I love all of the 250cc cruiser bikes, especially the Yamaha virago or v-star. But if you really want something with more power an older sub 1kcc cruiser (yamaha/suzuki/honda) would make a fine first bike. I wouldn't spend more than 3k on a first bike, but again, that is just me.

I bought one of these as my first bike and I've put about 1200 miles on it. I'm 5'6" and the seat height is awesome. I think it'd be a great commuter bike but you'd be miserable trying cross country. Just my initial thoughts.
@IGetAround2910 жыл бұрын
Yeah I hear that a lot actually, traveling really long distance with the 883 isn't recommended. But it does good simply traveling from Point A to point B. Thanks for your thoughts!

Try the beautiful Moto-Guzzi V7 Stone or the New 2014 Ducati Monster, the already low seat can be lowered easily by upto 2" or 50mm approximately !!!
@PeterDad609 жыл бұрын
dahelmetrk Just add a H-D Touring seat like I did and you can go as far as you want in comfort. You could also add a H-D Windshield and saddlebags for the long once a year trip and then remove it all and go back to the basic Sportster for the ride.

nwOutdoorAdventures, I am thinking about getting my licence for a motorcycle. And I really like the looks of this bike. But is this a good bike to learn to ride with, or is it to heavy and has it to much power to LEARN to ride with? And maybe choose a lighter bike with less power. I have no idea what a good bike is, to start with so let me know.
@nwOutdoorAdventures10 жыл бұрын
Hey there, this bike is on the heavy side and might be a bit much for a true beginner. The power is manageable. if you have the cash and are dying to get this bike, go for it. If it were me, however, I would buy one of the 250cc starter bikes like a Honda rebel. They are super cheap and are really easy to sell when you outgrow them!
