Thanks Big Ed, it’s a 1968 XLCH with only 12k on it. It runs very strong but I have to catch up on a few things before riding it this summer.

Yes, you are exactly right! My kickstand tab looks like it’s getting weak so I will do a closer inspection once I pull the side stand off. That’s why I installed a center stand as a back up until I get this situation resolved. I really appreciate you sharing your personal experience which confirms the weak link in these older CHs. It’s looks like the kick stand tab has weakened and bent up a bit. I will do a closer inspection once I pull the whole side stand off. That is why I installed the center stand as a back up until I get the side stand situation solved. I may end up having to re weld the tab to reinforce it or come up with a better design that looks original but much stronger. I am a professional machinist but currently retired so I no longer have all the mills and lathes and other equipment to do all the design and machining I would like to do! I already have a much stronger design in mind. The center stand is an exact aftermarket copy of the original and is very nice! BUT… I much prefer a side stand for every day use. Also the center stand is not designed for kicking the bike over, it’s not really designed for that purpose. In part 2 I will show the installation of the center stand.
