The Federal Reserve Board defines millennials as "members of the generation born between 1981 and 1996", as does the American Psychological Association and Ernst and Young.
@kanescrimes48484 жыл бұрын
@Spit Dragon I was born in 1982 and I work in tech support. The word "millennial" ISN'T a shortcut to describing the shared negative attributes of a specific demographic. That polarized conception is just for puppet minded idiots. The word merely describes an age demographic. It's only puppets with one dimensional (polarized) perceptions that assume it's an insult by definition. A morons understanding of the word shouldn't become the new definition, but MOST people are morons...so here we are. FUN-FACT: Many young gifted intellectuals also have a negative view of technology. Namely social media. Most clinical psychologists despise it...because they understand our species better than most anyone. It's not the tech that many people from all age demographics hate, it's the manner in which our species uses it. Tech isn't the/a problem, our inherent flaws as humans are.

Millennial means nothing anymore. If someone is young and you don't like them, they are "millenials". I was born in 81 and I get lumped in with other "millenials" who may be lumped in too who were born in 1999 or 2000 or even later. I got 0 in common with some kid born in 1999 when I graduated high school. Shit, I feel like I actually have incredibly little in common with someone born in 91 or 92. The word millennial needs to die in a fire.
@MorganaOld7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I would consider you to be generation x not milennial, otherwise everyone is a milennial!
@taywimz7 жыл бұрын
Sparrowhawk I'm 22 (born in June, 1995) and I'd consider myself a millennial I suppose. And I'd consider anyone who's about 5 years older than me to be non-millennials. So I'd say basically anyone who's about 26 years or younger to be a millennial. Like maybe people who are 13 to 25/26-year-olds are probably millennials. But who really knows the true answer or even gives much of a fuck? Hahaha.
@fg094037 жыл бұрын
1. you are a millennial if you were born after the 70's 2. it never meant anything it's a marketing term 3. every complaint about millennials has been made about previous generations, the negative traits people pin on millennials are human developmental traits of being below the age of 30 that have and will always be part of growing up.
@SantinoDeluxe7 жыл бұрын
tech is a good marker for change of generation. if you were born after the internet was an established market place for e-commerce youre a millennial. if you grew up with a touchscreen device in your hand and bitcoin in the news youre gen z. its about norms. remember roller blades, cartridge video games, cassettes and vhs? then youre gen x and youre proud of it! baby boomers read newspapers and played with wooden toys. each gen thinks the gen coming up is spoiled but thats progress, life should get easier as more and more problems are solved. the question is where is this all going to end up? what problems will the last generation, the one without problems, create? beware the grey goo! automation will eat us alive!!!
@mikeysipin76597 жыл бұрын
I was born in 1985, and everyone referred to my generation as gen x back then. You can't retcon that now just because somebody came up with a dumb new word for everything they hate about "kids these days." I have nothing in common with these whiny, entitled 20-somethings running around with their heads up their asses. I am an Army veteran, I drive a forklift 50 hrs/week, I still have all my VHS tapes, and I played cartridge games on my original Nintendo (NES) I got when I was 5 or so. Even once the internet was a thing, I was only allowed on PBS sites or in the official Nickelodeon kids' chat room on AOL, and there was no such thing as social media. Once the news broke that porn had taken the whole web by storm(lol), I wasn't allowed on the internet at ALL until I moved out, which I did at age 18, not 25-ish like "kids these days" do. I never owned a cell phone until I was already stationed in Germany, and smart phones didn't yet exist at the time. I am ABSOLUTELY not a "millennial." I was almost 15 when 2000 rolled around. Hell, I still remember thinking it was so strange when we came back from winter break in 1990 and the teacher said there were no more 1980- anythings, that was all over and it was the 90s now. We held a mock school election the first time Bill Clinton ran for president. I was in my English class in high school when 9/11 was happening. The shows I grew up watching are on fuckin' Nick at Nite now. I'm no millennial.

'Millennials' is the newest category of people we can put in a category. This kind of distain for the following culture we leave behind is really just a collective projection of our shortcomings to properly raise that next generation. We then blame that group preemptively for it's future mistakes to 'prepare' it for the future mistakes. “The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise.” - Sokrates

Shame, Dan! As a fellow Gen Xer I guess I saw what you missed-that our previous generations loathed as much if not more than Millenials are hated. We didn't grow up in mud huts. We got everything we wanted. We played with those voodoo boxes that sane people call computers. We were constantly put down for watching too much TV (because that was totally not under the column of 'things parents should monitor'.) We wanted our satanic MTV and all media was making us terrible, shitty, vile humans. There's a reason we sarcastically say 'get off my lawn!' and 'Back in my day, sonny...' It's because our elders said that shit in all seriousness and never passed up an opportunity to tell us we sucked because we didn't have any 'amazing cultural zeitgeist' like they did. If Gen X and Millenials ganged up against Boomers we might stand a chance of undoing all the wreckage they've ignored or wrought on our economy, society, environment, and the never ending cycle of war that is holding us back as a country. Fuck Boomers and their 'why can't you do what I did and go to school then get a house with as much work as I put in, you lazy shits?' Because you entitled assholes were able to make a living wage, inflation didn't exist so all those things were affordable and then some, and you passed all your debt and greed on to us in the form of ballooning personal and government debt, an increasing divide between the upper class and everyone else, inflation far exceeding cost of living, and claiming you ended racism because you went to Woodstock and did bad acid with topless chicks. Don't treat Millenials like the Boomers treated us because we're better than them and their arrogance that they are the best generation.
@redlethe86797 жыл бұрын
Harmon's a fucking dumbass; says stupid shit non-stop. Even the Boomers got a ton of shit they wanted. It's the currently dieing silent generation that went through those world wars and went through actual struggels so their kid's pathetic asses can fuck anything with a hole in it and get high at a hippy concert only to pretend that solved the civil rights movement.

@seir3237 жыл бұрын
Gateaux Q - I wish I could FRAME this comment - at the least, maybe I'll print it out and look at it when I'm feeling like shit for having the misfortune to be born in 1989. I guess it makes me on the cusp of "Millenial" and "Gen x"? But I know I have a lot of different experiences than someone born in 79 vs 99. The world is changing faster and people are living longer, so to the assholes who are boomers or the generation shit on by said boomers, all of us look like 'damn kids." It's a shame. I've been talking a lot more to my 92 year old grandma, and she grew up on a farm, my grandpa fought in WWII, she told me the heartbreaking fact that she "never had a grandmother" - Gratowl, you're on point. But I think a lot of those folks wanted a better life for their kids, as much as some of them turned up their noses to 'scandalous' rock and roll and Elvis's hips. Boomers were the first generation to be allowed to be teenagers, so it makes it all the more ludicrous that they can't accept today's teenagers and young adults.
@punkgrl3256 жыл бұрын
seir323 I know that feel. I was born right in 1990, and I personally agree more with gen X-ers than I do the kids who are fighting for pc/censorship and have a strong groupthink-like mentality when it comes to identity. I really miss Gen X's mindset of refusing labels - even if it was only a pretense in their case.

William Cortelyou And that's different from the entirety of human history, including the modern day, how exactly? Except for the difference accounted for by our advances in abortion and contraceptives Humans are stupid, horny, impulsive creatures by nature. Are millennials the exception to this? If you think so, listen to the radio's top 40s hits
@x_x_6__7 жыл бұрын
+GubbaNubNubDooRahKah So millenials are to blame for shitty radio top-40 hits, not the capitalist system producing the shitty music, taking advantage of it's own status in the world by exploiting people to buy into every shitty thing they come up with? I'm not saying millenials are better or worse than any other generation, just wondering how you think listening radio top-40 hits are gonna prove anything more than your narrow point of view.
@littlefishbigmountain7 жыл бұрын
x_x You completely missed the point of my comment. All the radio hits prove are that we're stupid, horny, and impulsive. It wasn't about capitalism, ffs. Besides that, If people didn't buy it, the companies would exploit us differently. They're giving us what they think most of us want, but they ultimately follow profits. I never said millennials are to blame for radio hits being bad. In fact, what I was saying (if you look at the comment I was *actually* responding to) was that millennials and baby boomers both spawn hordes of idiots in their own likeness. So does every other generation that's ever lived. It's sorta what humans do, historically so. I don't know where your irrelevant diatribe came from, but it seems like you're the one with the narrow view, considering you can't even read a comment for what it is without injecting random thoughts about capitalism into it

I think it's too early to accuse Millennials of anything, really. They haven't had time to do anything. The funny thing is that Baby Boomers are notorious for blaming our current problems on them. The very people who own EVERYTHING are blaming the generation that owns nothing for what appears to be a rough ride ahead. Gen X is hardly even talked about. One of the few times I heard about Gen X being sort of dissected was that Generation X wants to know how things work and because of that we have a better understanding of things than older generations.

Boomer are sociopaths who only care about themselves. Their voting history shows this. The boomer presidents only care about helping boomers. Otherwise, it would just be my family, friends and coworkers and most of them aren't checking to see how people my age are doing, they are more interested in how they are going to make things work, and get along with who they know in order to have some peace and stability.
