There are a few scenes that really stand out to me as appearing to have a lot more love put into them: The feast at Bilbo's Bilbo meeting Gollum Bilbo talking to Smaug.

Peter Jackson was forced to take charge at the last second so he had no time to properly write the script, but he knew that there are moments that no matter what you HAVE TO get right and he decided to sacrifice the other scenes in order to make sure to get those right

@@bagrym there was already a good amount of content to make three movies in the hobbit. The problem is they didnt do a justice to the actual source material and ended up putting orcs and legolas in it just to make things more "exciting". There was so much cool shit in the book that could have been made into 3 movies, but all peter jackson cares about know is how "grand it all looks with CGI" He doesnt give a shit about writing a good script. It just shows they didnt really care about making a good tribute to the hobbit, they just wanted to make a lot of cash. Also look at peter jacksons new movie Mortal Engines, its obvious hes lost passion for his craft and cant make a decent fucking movie anymore

The Hobbit could have been a wonderful little prequel film that served as a wonderful companion piece to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Nope. Instead we got a trilogy nobody wanted. The Hobbit is such a wonderful children's novel.

It should have been totally different in tone because the books were totally different in tone. Rather, they tried to make a LotR prequel that was more in line with the LotR movies, via injecting scenes that had no place in the movie among other things.

I wonder now they've seen the behind the scenes. Where it's like "Del Toro left, Jackson came in, tried to make it work, almost died. It didn't work out". Clearly it wasn't a work of defiant ignorance but of terrible circumstances.

I know a dude who was meant to play a make-up-d orc in the hobbit movies. He schlepped around the set in heavy armour for months, sweating his ass off in the background, then got told later that they were gonna cut him entirely so they could animate the orcs in.

That freaking sucks! They could make a great movie about how hard people work and end up getting nothing out of it. A Coen brothers movie. If anyone could pull it off it would be them.
@nastrael
@nastrael 7 жыл бұрын
One of the best parts about the LotR Trilogy was the stunt work. It was so intense, you could be forgiven for thinking that they weren't stunts, because some of the time they weren't. There were a few moments (namely when shooting the fights at Amon Hen and Helm's Deep) where they literally told the stunt guys to go all out, bordering on giving them permission to actually fight and kill each other. What that resulted in was some of the greatest action sequences ever put on film, ever. Guy's broke bones and lost teeth to get those shots, and they're fucking golden. The Hobbit had none of that intensity.

+Peter Lambert2211 All of the coen's brothers movies are really small scale personal stories, so I'm not really sure why you'd think that would translate into a fantasy epic. If kubrick was still alive now that's someone who could make an epic movie

How is Harmon always able to cut through the bullshit? When I give my (informed) opinion on the technical aspects of media I'm always very cautious and I come off as if I have less to say than I have. By doing that I'm doing a disservice to writing, which I love, to accomodate people feeling cozy, which I'm wary of.

i feel so bad for Peter Jackson cuz Dan makes pretty much everyone's argument of why those films suck, and they never think of what the poor dude went through. exactly the same with Green Hornet. the script and the editing and everything exchanged hands so many times that anything final is just a mess and by the time anyone who gives a shit about the quality comes in, there is no time to fix it cuz production needs to start. the dude had a mental breakdown and halted production for 2 weeks on the second movie cuz he had to direct 2 units AND do script re-writes. it woulda been so much different if they could've.

those were goblins not orcs or uruk hai i guess why they look different. but making a movie from 100 page book to be as epic as a movie from a 1100 page book yeh it doesn't work as much as LOTR should have been about 10 films. Should have invented a Silmarillion script and made ONE hobbit movie Hobbit was the childrens story prototype before TOlkein worked out how to do it better TBF.

In the book the barrels are fastened shut, so they are buoyant because they are airtight and bobbing. Nobody knows they escaped down the river, it's not an action sequence at all If the barrels are open, they would sink. Bilbo pushes all the closed barrels into the river and then clings to one as he can't shut himself into one, so he ends up catching a cold and resenting leaving without his handkerchief, which he kicks himself for at the start of the book.
