Simone is my reading kindred spirit. Oh - I missed your knitting today - no judgment and do what comes naturally, but I love watching you knit and talk about books. That is my zen! Xx

That scene between Edmond and Mercedes is my favourite scene of all time. It's very "I know who you are, and I know that you know that I know who you are. But we're just gonna pretend like we just met, 'kay?" Such great use of subtext.

I got the Count of Monte Cristo and to begin with had trouble with the language, being so wordy. However, I went on a holiday last week and spent a lot of time in airports and was so glad to have it with me. I did get an automatic extension at the library for 6 weeks when I saw the size of it. I am loving it, thanks.

Thanks for the book discussion. I’m in a book club at the local library. The discussions are good and it stretches my reading genre.

Great to hear your discussion on the books. I will have to see if Lesley Crewe is in the library here in the UK. 🇬🇧

Love your book discussions. Thank you for recommending The Inspector Gamache series. I’m always surprised at the end. I listen to audio books so I can knit.

I love listening to audiobooks while I knit! I listened to the Harry Potter books during my last sweater session. I love how wearing things bring back favorite passages. I'm listening to Pride and Prejudice now, read by Rosumonde Pike (she played Jane in the latest movie)

I love all your sweaters! And Simone I love your haircut too! :) Kim, I have collected quite a few Ken Follett books but I haven't read any of them yet. :)

Two audio books I loved: The Covenent of Water by Abraham Verghese, narrated by the author and Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver, I forget the narrator, but he is outstanding. Loving the podcast. Thanks! The Spoon Stealer is going to be my next book!

My book group started in 1991. Currently nine of us; six are founding members. We meet monthly, with a pot luck, rotating houses. We've shared all that life brings over 33 years and have read many wonderful books along the way (most recently The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride - one of the best). Audible has a free version of The Count of MC - look forward to immersing myself! My current listen is The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters. She's of Mi'kmaq heritage from Nova Scotia. It's a troubling story but gently told, and I recommend it for you.

A great Trilogy that may be hard to find but so worth it is The Potato Factory, Tommo and Hawk, and Solomon’s Song by Bryce Courtenay. Actually all of his books are great. The Power of One by him also is one of my all time books that remains remarkable.

I've been listening to Agatha Raisin audio books and BBC Radio books too when I am knitting...well, all Agatha Christie audio books really. Going to check out All Creatures Great and small. Thanks ladies, really enjoy listening to you chat about what you are reading.🥰Sharon.

@@sandandskycreations6263 You will love them. I liked them so much better than the TV show. Same author wrote the Hamish MacBeth stories; book-Hamish is better than screen-Hamish - and completely different. I don’t know how it works in Canada but in the US, I have access to audiobooks through my library. Streams to phone, borrow for two weeks.

I'm trying to use audio books so I can listen while I knit. An easy one to try is Talking to Canadians by Rick Mercer...Rick Mercer is the narrator also. It's very entertaining, and I could listen to him read all day long 😊

I listen audiobooks when I’m cleaning, sewing and driving. I’m listening to A Flicked In the Dark by Stacy Willingham and just finished reading Not aHappy Family by Shari Lapena (excellent) and started reading Alice Feeney’s Rock Paper Scissors. I have put Lesley Crewe in my Good Reads app so I can read her books. Thanks for the recommendations but I do not think I’ll be reading the Ken Folliet books. 😬 Great podcast ladies.

Totally off topic..... I watched the two episodes back to back and it wasn't until the Book episode that I noticed Simone's lovely new hair style. Really cute. Also took out from my local library The Spoon Stealer.

I totally agree with you Kim on “Column of Fire”, but I abandoned it about where you are now. I just picked up “Armor of Light”, which is supposed to be the sequel. I’m about 100 pages in and it’s more in the vein of the first two in the Knightsbridge series so far. I like a big book and hope this is a good one. BTW my local Library just eliminated late fees … I’m wondering if people will stop returning books, which will make them less available to loan???

Actually - it was the other way around, with Auguste Maquet suggesting the plot and Dumas doing the writing (according to the Wikipedia page).

Audio Books… yes, the narrators are KEY! A poor narrator, including some authors who should just stick to the writing, can ruin an audio book. Best ever experience (IMHO) is THE HELP, by Kathyrn Stockett. 5 narrators, all Actresses, so the characters are very individual. No time spent wondering who is who, or fixating on the poor characterization. The kind of audio where you sit in a parking lot after you arrive at your destination and continue listening because you just cannot stop listening! 😊

I’ve had my face planted in meteorology books for Seamen as of late but audiobooks are what help me sleep. How wonderful to set a 30 timer and get told a bedtime story. 🥱 I have my shiny new credit for Audible and been wondering what to go for next! I only just finished the new ‘All Creatures’ season on TV-I had no idea about the audio books narrated by Nicholas Ralph (I could listen to him all night 😅 Thanks for the recommendation
