This is one of THE great groups of all time, and Teddy Pendergrass is unmatched in his interpretation of lyrics and the ability to "deliver the goods". "If you Don't Know Me By Now" is their signature song, but this one is right up there too. Great reaction by you bro. Your appreciation of the music my youth is really wonderful.

Back in the 60's and 70's, R&B music was called Soul music. This is an example of why.

There's still a difference between Soul music and R&B. You can hear it when you listen to Jamila Woods and then try to go back to 6lack
@Brother_Dre1900

@@joedorben3504 R&B and Soul at the time, was used interchangeably. If anything, looking back, Soul was inevitably a genre of R&B. Today's R&B wouldn't be classified as Soul music, for the most part.

I just discovered this song tonight, but it was sung by Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates on his show live from Daryls house. He was singing it to his guitarist, who passed away who had been with them for 30+ years. when I looked into the origins of this song I found out that the blue Notes featuring the incomparable Teddy Pendergrass did it first. This version is stunning, but do yourself a favor and check out Daryl Hall on live from Daryls house. This is my new favorite song right now.❤❤❤ made me think of losing both of my parents last year to cancer and how much I miss them. This song brought me to my knees weeping. I know he is missing his woman and not his parents, but I certainly feel the emotion and pain in this song . So glad I discovered it and so glad to see that you found it as well.🙏😊❤

This band is credited as being the first band to do a disco song, "The Love I Lost". Drummer Earl Young came up with the 4 on the floor drum beat and the syncopated cymbal. It was the blueprint for the disco sound. Years later, Earl put together a band named The Tramps, who sang the song "Disco Inferno" widely considered the best disco song. Second only to The BeeGees in creating perfect songs for the dance floor.

Background vocals "miss you miss you" done by the man who usually did all the lead Vocals, Teddy Pendergrass. I was on my way to buy tickets for his concert when I heard on the news that he had been in a car accident and the concert was cancelled. He was paralyzed after that, but has been remembered since that time with reverence. My favorite song of the group was I Hope that We Can Be Together Soon. But the one mentioned by Greg Hull below is awesome too.

Their lead singer went onto become one of the greatest solo artist in history...His name was Teddy Pendergrass. When Teddy left the Blue Notes to start a solo career. The Blue Notes will have a modicum of success whereas Teddy would become a superstar. The rest as they say is history. Note: They were part of what was known as 'The Philadelphia sound.' Other great groups that came out of Philadelphia were: The Delfonics, Blue Magic, The Moments, The Three Degrees, The Trammps, The O'Jays, The Stylistics', etc.....

Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes were one of the many bands signed to Philadelphia International Records under the Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff era. Many of the songs were written by Gamble and Huff. There was a saying that the song writers saved the best songs for themselves. Holland-Dozier-Holland who wrote most of the late 60’s and early 70’s hits for the Motown stable went on to form their own record label “Invictus” and had much success with Freda Payne “Band of Gold” that hit the No1 spot in the UK and was in the chart some 19 weeks. Chairman of the Board “Give Me Just a Little More Time” etc. Lamont Dozier went on to write and produce a number of solo albums and produced some amazing music. Check out in particular “Trying to Hold On To My Woman” “All Cried Out” and “Why Can’t we Be Lovers”. Another Motown writer Johnny Bristol went of to forge a solo career with hits like “Hang On In There” and “Love me For a Reason” that was later covered by The Osmonds. Dozier also dueted with Phil Collins on “The Quiets to Loud”. He also wrote “Going back to my Roots” that was covered by Odyssey. He wrote jointly with Mick Hucknell for Simply Red and “Invisible” for Alison Moyet. You need to listed to Lamont Dozier.
