It's mid-June and it's time for us to pick some white clover that grows around our property and dehydrate it for either hot or iced tea. We'll jar as much as we can in the summer so that we can enjoy it throughout the year.
Preparing an herbal tea can help to treat fevers, common colds, coughs and even leucorrhea. European folk medicine prepared a tea that was used to treat conditions like gout and rheumatism. White clover also encloses a natural chemical known as the estrogenic isoflavone genistein, which possesses several different types of activities, including preventing development of cancer and antioxidant actions. It has many other health benefits that you should research on your own.

Kelly- thank you for watching! It will vary depending on whether you’re using fresh or dried clover. I normally fill a tea ball loosely packed with 1/4 cup of clover flowers, bring 2 cups of water to a boil, shut off the heat and submerge the tea ball for about 3 minutes. If your use dried flowers it will look more brown than yellow. Hope this helps 😊

Thanks for the comment! Generally white clover flowers bloom during late spring and early summer and the clover will remain green all summer. We are in zone 6B and usually start harvesting in mid May through June. I normally make my tea a gallon at a time in the summer and use about a cup of white clover flowers to a gallon of water and let it brew in the sun like you would making sun-tea. I don't add any sweetener as I find it pleasant as it is for a cold summer drink. In the winter I use about a tablespoon of flowers for a single cup with hot water and might add a little honey for the extra boost. I hope this information is helpful and thank you for watching!!

The one I'm using in this video was my grandmothers and I love it. Other than garage sales or flea markets, I haven't seen them for sale anywhere. Most of the newer aluminum strainers don't have the same number of drain holes and seem to hold too much water. There is a nice stainless steel strainer that has great reviews on Amazon that I'll add a link to in the video description. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave us a comment!

You have a dinosaur problem! I had to go back and take a screenshot to make sure my eyes were playing tricks with me. I’m not sure if you know the answer to this but I will ask just in case. Is there any tea that helps with IBS? Or are all teas bad for someone who suffers from IBS?
@KeepingItRielwithMarilynSteve
@KeepingItRielwithMarilynSteve 2 жыл бұрын
There are actually quite a few teas that may help different IBS symptoms. Peppermint Tea has been found to soothe the intestines, relieve abdominal pain and reduce bloating. Anise Tea has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties and can help settle the stomach and regulate digestion - Anise oil capsules have proved more effective for IBS than the tea though. Fennel Tea can be used to relieve gas, bloating and intestinal spasms - fennel and curcumin essential oils have been used in tests to treat IBS. Chamomile tea has anti-inflammatory properties and can help relieve muscle spasms, has been shown to eliminate gas and relieve intestinal irritation. Tumeric Tea or tumeric capsules have also been shown to reduce abdominal pain and discomfort after extended use.

@@KeepingItRielwithMarilynSteve great ! I’ll check out some of the local health food stores. She loves tea, but had to stop for a regular tea because of the caffeine. I got rice milk to replace the cream will have to see if I can find a sweetener that will work if any… Thank you!

Dave: if you have IBS, and weird stuff set it off, some of which seems to be a trigger at sometimes and not others, look into FODMAPs. So for example if you can have bread some of the time, that might be causing you to think that maybe Luke might be a problem. But not always. Or maybe dairy as well, sometimes tomatoes, and other times are fine. Although certain foods seem to always be triggers, others are not consistent.It might be a fructans problem. I’ll give you an example that’s my case, and not your case, but the principal might be applicable. For years I’ve been gluten-free. Of necessity. In the back of my mind, it always bothered me that certain things that are supposed to be gluten-free would set me off, like kamut. Other things that are supposed to be full of gluten did not, like my favourite German bread that I used to have overseas, and can still get in my area. I had free time about three weeks ago, so I spent that time looking into things. I decided to do one more test. If the problems for a great deal of the reactions of having, have to do with fructans, which are short chain carbohydrates, then by fermenting gluten, I would have gluten without fructans. And I’d be able to eat that without a problem. So I bought a loaf of sourdough bread. It’s really important to have something that’s really and truly fermented, and not something that’s just got a little bit of fermenting added to it for flavor. There’s been no looking back. Gluten-free bread I used to eat was 10 bucks a loaf, or a few cents shy of. And not every place had it in inventory. The sourdough bread, that cost half the price for twice as much, and is at least twice as good. It hasn’t solved all the problems, but then again, I’m not done with the research on it yet. Just no time to put into it at the moment. I’m not saying that this is definitely the case with you, but It’s being offered up to you, to try and rule out some very expensive, painful, and frustrating issues. I hope some part of it pays off for you, and that you let us know what ends up working in the end. I hope you feel better soon.❤️

Can you dry them in the oven or air dry them?
@KeepingItRielwithMarilynSteve
@KeepingItRielwithMarilynSteve 11 ай бұрын
Yes, you can fry them in the oven on its lowest setting but as that is still pretty hot the heat can reduce the nutritional value. Air drying is a great option! Thank you for watching!!

Is this plant, white clover is the same melilotus alba??? Or they are different
@KeepingItRielwithMarilynSteve
@KeepingItRielwithMarilynSteve 10 ай бұрын
They are both clovers but different. The clovers in our videos are considered "Annual Clovers" vs. Melilotus alba which is considered a "Sweetclover". Both are edible and medicinal but for different purposes. Please do your own research before ingesting anything foraged. Great question though and thank you for this comment!

Michelle - First thing to consider is if you are using fresh or dried clover. If you are using fresh clover it may be lighter and more yellow but still have great flavor. I normally fill a tea ball (about 1/4 cup loosely packed) with the clover flowers, bring two cups of water to a boil, shut off the heat and submerge the tea ball until it looks good :) I tested today picking fresh clover, filled my tea ball with 1/4 cup flowers, boiled the 2 cups water, removed from heat, added the tea ball and let it steep about 3 minutes. It was a beautiful golden yellow. If you're using the dried flowers it will be more brown than golden yellow. If you want to see the color I just posted a picture to our Instagram page of it in the pot at the three minute mark. Hope this helped and thank you for watching!!

Why is using it as a tea not recommended for people with hypertension?
@KeepingItRielwithMarilynSteve

White clover can have a blood-thinning effect. This blood-thinning property might also interact with hypertension and blood-thinning medications. If you take medication it’s best to consult your doctor before including white clover in your diet.
