Beauregard Sweet Potatoes are one of our FAVOURITES to grow, they have the classic Orange skin and flesh and are a variety, usually grow to a good size given the right conditions and are a variety you will often find in grocery stores and used by commercial growers.
Lots of tips, info and observations in this video as we harvest our tatter and chatter.
We are MASSIVELY grateful that you choose to watch our Videos and support us in this way already, however, If you appreciate and get value from what we share and would like to help us a little more, you can become a Freedom Forest Patreon (link below).

Your video is a great reminder of the value of patience and perseverance. It takes a lot of time and effort to grow and harvest melons and oranges, but the end result is so worth it. And the fact that you're able to make a living by selling them at the market is even more impressive. Keep up the great work! And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.

My mum used to pronounce that word like this ‘bow- re- gard’. I think it’s from the French meaning beautiful. As in ‘beau’. and ‘regard ‘ literal ‘good’. And ‘look’ Anyway enough of my pedantry …. Love the harvest and love the channel… I’ll be trying the Okinawa purple sweet potato this year if I can get hold of any n

Its probably our bad pronounciation Dave 🤣 I'm REALLY bad at it - don't even get be started on botanical names!! 🤣 ... Funny you should say this though because Dan always wanted to pronounce it the way you say, but in my head (which I thought I had picked up in NZ) its was said how you hear us on the vid. I'm sure you are right! It was a great harvest though either way 😆 I LOVE purple sweet potatoes too, we grow molokai purple - its a little more tender but I love the deep colour ... I can feel the goodness from it im sure ! 💚✌️🌿

You can make french fries or chips you call them from the small ones, we love them fried. We also bake the big ones and some people here harvest the younger tender leaves and stir fry them. In the southern United States sweet potatoes are a staple. We love sweet potato souffle. They are very good for our bodies as they take minerals from the soil and we take them in when we eat them.

We LOVE the good nutrition these beauties provide too … we’ve been enjoying them chipped, slow baked in the fire and also in soup and curries too … big love to the sweet potatoes for sure - thanks heaps for watching and commenting 🙏💚✌️🌿

Ha ha, ok, see what we can do! We gotta get better at saving them actually, as due to storage we just delete all our footage mostly once vids are made, but we said it would have been a fun thing to do for the end of the year just putting all the bloopers in to a vid ... im gonna try and save them this year! 😁

Hello and thank you for your lovely comment. We got our original slips to grow the sweet potatoes from a place called Highland Horticulture - I'll put the link in here for you. You can sometime get some luck growing slips to plant out from store bought sweet potatoes, but we've had mixed success with this over time. We've made other videos about how to do this too, so i'll pop another link in for that also 💚 hope it helps and happy growing ✌️🌿 Highland; www.sweetpotato-slips.co.uk/ How to grow slips: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNhzrbyTucqUaGw.html Our Sweet potato growing playlist: kzfaq.info/sun/PLOidPRQofoMMQnV_40S6dUq7nxtcMY5w9

hi guys,ive just found your chanel while researching "growing sweet potatoes in the UK"and whilst ive enjoyed watching your sweet potatoe videos its a shame you hav'nt done a video showing how to cure and store them in the uk as at harvest time its a bit too cold outside.just a thought for a future video
@freedomforestlife
@freedomforestlife Жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, yes, it is a video we totally intend to do 💚 The only reason we haven't as of yet is because we are still honing our facilities here/experimenting for the best doable option and learning more each year ... We do talk about how we cure them in other vids - we've made quite a few, not sure if you've found the others (theres a Sweet Potato playlist on our channel kzfaq.info/sun/PLOidPRQofoMMQnV_40S6dUq7nxtcMY5w9 ). For example, this year where it was unusually cold we lost a lot more of our stores than usual because our shed isn't frost free and have been experienting with how they keep inside at more room temperature ... this year we are insulating the shed now 😃 We share stuff about this as it comes up on our Face book page normally too - Thanks for watching and for your comment - its great to know how our vids are being found too 🙏✌️🌿

@@freedomforestlife look forward to seeing your curing video,thats the only part that is putting me off growing sweet potatoes as to cure them they should have a high temp and a high humidity which i could create but at a expence that would make it cheaper to buy them from a shop.keep up the good work n see you soon

Hiiiii … lovely to hear you two having fun 😁. Hey Dan, you were setting aside tip cuttings to grow on for next year right? Last year I had Kumera in my hothouse and I left behind some of the red skinny roots (laziness) and they’re now all growing like mad, would this be an easier way of getting a harvest .. like leaving bits in the ground to do it for themselves like you do with potatoes? Or would the ground get too cold for them to survive in uk?

I puit my sweet potato vines in a compost pile and they've gone insane here Zone 10b -- literally a groundcover of vines that I have to cut back to keep from taking over. And they send out runners underground and pop up many feet away from the main mass of vines.

Hey Robyn, glad you enjoy the vid 🙌 that’s awesome that you grew unexpected sweet potatoes that way - perennial sweet potatoes would be fab! It may work for use if we buried them really deep and mulched them well, but if the tubers do get a frost of them, they just turn to mush .. we might get away with it on a good winter though … 🤔 your winter is still on average a little better and shorter than ours, but not much in it now I’d say on our milder winters … like this one so far!!! But turning cold from next week apparently 😬 thanks for commenting hear 🙏💚🙏 ✌️🌿 xxx

The original compost pile starter vines have been in about 5 months so I am going to check for mature sweet potatoes. They are Hanna and Violet. We love baked sweet potatoes with unsalted butter, Himalayan salt and black pepper. Meanwhile, I have to redirect the vines away from the pineapples and butterfly friendly Porterweed.

Thanks Steveo … yes it could be, this ground could be classes as newly broken, as it was all very over grown just a couple of years ago, which it would seem from what I’ve just read is the space they are often found … thanks for the suggestion … another thing learnt about today 🙏✌️🌿
