I bought one from a box store. Discovered it had too, too much dirt, and was full of worms, 3 green, 1 white grub that had pinchers, a couple white, and what looked like parasite type worms, this has me questioning ⁉️ I took off almost 2 inches of extra dirt, treated it with crumbled tobacco and tobacco dust, & over watered 2 days later, with a larger container to catch all run off of the water. I will be repotting & getting rid of all contaminated dirt, & water. The plant appears to be doing well weeks later. I'm not harvesting anything but seed this year 😢.

Great info! I am raising purple coneflower for medicinal purposes. I started one plant last year from seed. This year, I am raising several more with seed from my plant. The info on how to cut leaves for tea was really helpful. And great to know i can harvest roots and still replant part to make new plant. Thanks bunches. 💜💜💜

Thanks for sharing!! I'm new subscriber, & Just thought I'd suggest something you may not have heard about. Having been bitten by 3 different venomous spiders that caused dying flesh & left scars. Earlier this year I heard that Echinacea along with plantain, & 2 other plants that are found most anywhere, if used correctly, externally and internally stops those bites in their tracks, and can also help in same way with snake bites that cause necrotizing effect. There's much more than what I've written here I have the recipe written down. I've bought an echinacea plant, have some plantain in oil trying to make my own, but have decided to try and order the necessary ingredients instead, because the guy that sprays under power lines, contaminated-killed almost everything in my herb and berry growing area, & they're more than 20 feet from the lines. The guy must not like gardeners, herbs, or berries, he also got a 5ft. tall cedar that came up on its own.??? Enjoyed the video, you've inspired me to begin a new container herbal growing project. Thanks!!!

It's not a weed it's an herb, been around for a very long time. It is a wonderful herb. You may want to look it up and what good things it can help with. Thank you for this video Eric. 🥰

Thanks Eric, We had 3 retaining walls built with raised beds for flowers, so when the snow melts next spring we’ll try our hand at Cone Flower. The other 3 retaining walls are back filled and will be used for our garden. Next year we have plans for another 5-6 retaining walls to expand our garden. After all that is done we plan on building a waterfall on the North end of the house and letting it fall to the lower area of our land.

Thanks for your video 🌺 just for clarity, your short echinacea plants shown in the background, does not look like Echinacea Purpurea, it’s a different, non medicinal variety? Echinacea P. Is 3-5 feet tall.

You can harvest if you have flowers - often in the first year if you started from seed….harvest towards the end of the season so that the plant is using energy for root development. Cannot use the roots until the 3rd year, they just won’t be big enough 🌺

Watch for video, clean your septic system with aerobic bacteria. After three years, how did it go, did the bacteria solve your septic problem? I might have a similar problem or in the near future. Thank you for your time and attention, big fan from Canada.

Wondering if I should wait to harvest until I have the alcohol to make the tincture with fresh cuttings? Or can I collect and dry then make a tincture so I can collect a few different times to get enough because I don't have many plants. I would like to try making both a tea and tincture, its my first time. I don't have a dehydratior so will just lay our on counter.

Thank you for showing how to use it! So many people say “make a tea” but they don’t say how much dried material to use so that was really helpful :) I have a plant that is a second year plant but only bloomed for the first time this year (I started it from seed last year). Do you know if those petals and flowers would be good to use or should I wait another year? I’ve heard you should use 2 year old plants but since mine didn’t bloom that first year I’m not sure. :)

A question and a comment. If I started echinacea in a 1 gallon pot 3 years ago, but only put it in the ground 2 years ago, when can I start harvesting roots? Also, at least for vanilla extract, vegetable glycerin is a good alternative to alcohol. Don’t know why it wouldn’t work here as well.

I would give it a few more years to establish itself. Use the leaves and flowers in the mean time.

I just came to see you actually put some leaves in a couple of water and drink it. All I wanted to know is can I go out where my echinacea is outside and put it in water see you say leaves and then you mean the leaves like the purple leaves or do you mean the green leaves? It looks like you have both and then why can’t I just some of it like fresh? Do I have to wait for it to dry?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience Ай бұрын
Dry is bests. I have never used the purple leaves.

So I’m new to making my own teas. What’s the purpose of drying the leaves if I want tea now? What does the dried out version offer that the just picked version does not?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience Ай бұрын
Hot water will not really draw out the nutrients from a green leaf unless it is left there for days. Hot water re-hydrates the dry leaves, draws out the nutrients, and dissolves some of the actual leaf into the water. Only way to draw the good stuff out of a green leaf is to use alcohol. That is called a tincture.

I had one seed actually make a beautiful little plant this spring--until my puppy found it. I tried replanting it, but only the echinacea paradoxa that I also planted came up. I'm going to cut the top off of a gallon milk jug, just leaving an inch & a half under the handle uncut for a hinge & plant a few seeds in there & leave it outside for the winter. I will make a couple of holes & use a piece of wire to close it & I will leave the lid off. I think it will come up on it's own that way. It can get pretty warm here in zone 7a, so I will need to check the moisture periodically. Good luck with yours, & God Bless!

I started mine with a seed starting potting mix in one of those paper egg cartons, I just placed them on a windowsill and kept them moist. Once they were big enough to transplant outside last spring, I just tore off each "egg" cup from the cartons and planted them directly in the ground, they didn't bloom the first year but this year they did and they are so tall and beautiful! Best of luck. ❤
