If you’re a fan of our show, you’ll know that one of our most popular features is our “Gone But Not Forgotten” series, featuring interviews with family members of some of the greatest Hollywood stars of all time.
Today, we’re welcoming Georgiana Guy Rodrigues, the only child of a beloved actress, singer and comedienne whose spectacular career on stage, screen, radio, television and nightclubs spanned nine decades: the fabulous Rose Marie.
Starting at the age of 3, she began performing as “Baby Rose Marie” in vaudeville, and at the age of 5 she had a 7-year contract with NBC, which led to a hugely successful radio and movie career.
But she’s perhaps best remembered for her iconic role on TV as the bombastic “Sally Rogers” on “The Dick Van Dyke Show”. She also played Doris Day’s sidekick “Myrna Gibbons” on “The Doris Day Show”, and for 14 years she was the top center square on the popular TV game show, “The Hollywood Squares”.
And she appeared in hundreds of TV shows - often numerous times - in shows like “The Monkees”, “The Hollywood Palace”, “The Dean Martin Show”, “S.W.A.T.” and “Murphy Brown”. She was also the subject of the highly acclaimed 2017 documentary “Wait For Your Laugh.”
And now, to commemorate Rose Marie’s 100th anniversary, a brand new CD is being released by Sepia Records, entitled, “ROSE MARIE SINGS: THE COMPLETE MERCURY RECORDINGS & MORE”. This very special compilation CD features Rose Marie’s 29 classic recordings of showtunes, standards and novelty songs from 1938 to 1966, including previously unreleased tracks, with liner notes written by our guest, including photos from the family archives. Rose Marie’s legions of fans have been waiting a long time for this CD.

When I heard that a compilation CD of Rose Marie’s musical recordings was being released, I just knew I had to get Rosie’s wonderful daughter Georgiana “Noopy” Guy Rodrigues on our show. I’ve always loved Rose Marie, and it was such a pleasure celebrating her monumental career and legacy. I’m so happy that the public response to this very special episode of our show has been so positive and full of praise. I truly have the best, most supportive and most loyal audience in the world!! Wonderful. Rose Marie was, for me, a spark plug. She brought energy and heart in every scene she appeared. I love the story of how the Dick Van Dyke show was being cast.....they had hired Rose Marie then asked her "Who would make a good side-kick for you"? Without skipping a beat, she said, "Morey Amsterdam". And the rest is history.

Each time I hear the 1969 song "Smile a Little Smile for Me - The Flying Machine" I think of Rose Marie and her character Sally Rogers on the Dick Van Dyke Show. when they sing the line "Oh, c'mon smile a little smile for me, Rosemarie" over the years I have loved the many talents of Rose Marie. I also love that signature look of her with the bow in her hair. Thank you, Rose Marie, for the excellent body of work you left behind to enjoy. I just watched the documentary on Amazon Prime and it was wonderful. What a great life Rose Marie had and we all were better off for it. A very special person beyond any doubt. Noopy, God Blessed you! Thank you Harvey for opening this window to Rose Marie and allowing me to look in.

I always loved Rose Marie from the days of The Bob Cummings Show on. She was an integral part of the greatest TV situation comedy show ever, too. She was on top of it all. I'd like to add something. I always thought Rose Marie dressed so beautifully and, expecially, when she was on the DVD Show, she had a great figure. I never heard anyone comment on that. Her performance gowns were so spectacular, and custom fitted.

My favorite Hollywood Squares answer by Rose Marie was a question about being in the ocean surrounded by sharks, you are supposed to stick your head in the water and do something. Do what? And Rose Marie said, "kiss yourself goodbye". She is part of my childhood from the Dick Van Dyke Show.
