The authors of the gospels were not the ones who were walking with Jesus according to Christian scholarship, who admit all authors of the gospels are anonymous. People were just writing about Jesus what they heard about Jesus. The authors of the gospels never claimed that they were witnesses. They never claim who they are. And they never claim any divine inspiration.

Did Christianity change? No. If you just read the texts of the pre-nicene fathers, before the edict, it is dreadfully apparent they believed the Trinity. Whats also misrepresented is what exactly islam teaches about tawhid here. Muslims, including Hijab, adhere to radical monotheism. A doctrine of such oneness that postulates not only that Allah is the only deity, but even the only thing that really exists. All other things "existing" in a near superficial way. Sheikh hamza yusuf describes the doctrine as like light from a projector. An appearance of something real. Humans having the same significance and depth of light from a projector. Now, ancient Christianity and judaism teach God is the most real of real. But Tawhid is so alien to every and all prior religion and prophet that it in no way resembles them. Christianity never taught Tawhid in the way sunni islam teaches it today.
