Has McDonald's Conquered Asia?
If McDonald's were a country, it's revenue would make it the 105th largest economy in the world, surpassing the GDP of Estonia, Cambodia & Afghanistan. The number of McDonald's employees worldwide would be more than the entire population of Iceland, Barbados and Samoa. It's a big company, but it wasn't always that way.
McDonald's was founded on May 15th, 1940 in San Bernardino, California - that's over 77 years ago - and has since expanded to a 120 countries and territories around the world, serving 68 million customers each day.
It took 27 years for the first McDonald's to appear outside of the US, and 31 years to make it's way to a second continent. THIS continent was Asia, and in this video I'm going to take you through the next 46 years of McDonald's' Asian ascension.
So, which Asian country was the first to open a McDonald's? What did McDonalds have to sacrifice in order compete with local markets? And how much of Asia is there still left to conquer, as of today?
We'll get into all of that, so grab a double cheeseburger (maybe some fries), and we'll explore every Asian country to have ever had a McDonald's.

- McDonald's Singapore for having the oldest McDonald's employee worldwide at 93 years old.
- McDonald's Malaysia for being the first McDonald's in a Muslim-majority country.
- McDonald's Turkey for being the first McDonald's in West Asia (Middle East).
- McDonald's South Korea to be the first to sell alcohol (beer).
- McDonald's Russia for having the largest McDonald's outlet in Asia in Pushkin Square, Moscow.
- McDonald's Israel for having the healthiest McDonald's in the world.
- McDonald's Saudi Arabia for oddly taking out a full page ad in a Saudi national newspaper swearing loyalty to the new crown prince.
- McDonald's India for being the first McDonald's in South Asia, as well as having the first vegetarian McDonald's in the world.
- McDonald's Pakistan for having served the Taliban at one point in time.
- McDonald's Georgia for having the chain's most exquisite outlet.
- McDonald's Iraq for only having ONE McDonald's outlet for the US Army stationed in Baghdad.
- McDonald's Kazakhstan for being the first McDonald's in Central Asia.

@edzel palcotilo I think no. Other countries (specially western countries, like America) doesn't eat rice a lot. Rice is like a bread or side dish for them. I think it won't be a good idea franchising Mang Inasal in those countries as Mang Inasal tends to focus on "Unli Rice" which makes it a famous restaurant in the Philippines. May I add that also, I have watched or known some westerners tried Jollibee, it taste odd for them as our spaghetti is different than what they want.

Fun fact : Most of the filipinos only go to Mcdo bc the jollibee resturants in their town are always full of people and there are no seats left.And also if theres a jollibee in an area there has to be a mcdonald near the place and they go there instead. Happens to me everytime i go to jolllibee the resturant is always full or crowded the only way to get there is to go there early (preferably before 8am) or just order your food and wait for someone to finish eating to get the seat or just take out

At 5:35, you said that the McDonald’s opened in Macau was the first Portuguese McDonald’s. While technically correct, it was NOT the first McDonald’s to open in a Portuguese language country. That honor goes to Brazil with its first McDonald’s opening on February 13, 1979.

It’s 2019 and McDonalds has completely flopped in Vietnam (they still managed to open stores in Hanoi though). Most fast food chains have, in fact, cause they can’t compete with local food.

As an Israeli, I can tell you they dropped the white and blue kosher branding long ago. Nowadays all of their restaurants are red and yellow and the kosher ones simply have the Hebrew word for kosher in their signs.

my dad used to work in the first mcdonald's store in Israel as a highschooler and was one of it's first employees (got hired before it opened). to this day his mom takes me to that very mcdonalds which is located in Israel's first shopping mall. they even have a playground for kids :)

Jollibee is basically the fast food equivalent of Switzerland. Its in a place that it can easily defend its position from potential invaders that are much stronger than itself. This is also reinforced by a fact that a jollibee and a Mcdonalds are built right next to each other near my house, and whenever I look, I see Mcdonald's customer line failing to the astronomical number of Jollibee customers. I mean, the queues for Jollibee are long enough to reach outside its front door and into the front parking lot, which is very impressive since its literally 5 times larger compared to Mcdonald's queues of 10 to 15 people.
