You don’t know how excited I am for this. I have learned to sponge everything and anything in these conversations even if it’s not applicable to my work, it’s good to be comfortable with and understand! You (Tom) said it once and it stuck with me; I just LOVE listening two passionate professionals talk about what they love. I’ve never been this kind of fiend for knowledge. Y’all have shown the ones like me that this is no longer a hobby. It can be a career if you bust your ass enough. You’re loving proof. I appreciate you Tom.

GREAT discussion on e-collar training. I get comments about the herm prong collar all the time. Watched Mr Davis’ videos on how to use the prong collar. My out of control re-homed GSD, in 5-10 minutes, became happier. She now 5 months later, is on a loose leash 99% of the time. She’s 100% happier and more confident, not to mention a love muffin. People don’t realize ANYTHING can be abused. Our dog was totally neglected by being in a crate most of the day. Yes, a crate can be mis-used! Thank you gentlemen for the content you put out. Mr. Davis, you have changed my life and more importantly my dog’s life!

Hey thanks Tom! this was a real lesson in gratitude. I'm just a pet dog owner with a growing obsession for training. I get up, walk my senior dog in the forest then take my 1yr gsp out to train at retrieves, sit stays etc and generally have awesome adventures. I work, we train again at lunch and again in the evening. Every day. I'm so grateful for the time I get to spend with my dogs. Listening to how you're both sacrificing so much of your lives to improve the lives of other dogs and their owners makes me feel truly grateful for what I have. Your content and that of other great trainers is essential in developing my learning. Thank you so much.

As someone who has been working animals for nearly two decades, these podcasts are so cathartic for me to listen to. It’s like, someone else gets it! The imposter syndrome, the guilt, the wanting to help and getting burnt but refusing to give up, the drive to help the animals that keeps us going through it all… the list goes on and on. I don’t talk to people in my real life about my job and my work because they just don’t get it. There’s so much more that goes into working with dogs than what people see and assume is on the surface. You guys get it. This episode felt like a therapy session. Keep putting out that great content!

Ok, I'm listening to this podcast today and I'm to the point where Tom mentioned being in the park offering train for free and not get much, if any, takers. I've always been told that if you're not charging for your knowledge/services then it's not worth anything. Yes, if you're charging $5000. as in your example, it must be great training. Come to a park near me and I'll take all the free time you want or have to give.

My male Rottweiler, who was my self-trained and certified PTSD service dog, was wonderful and had a good sense of humor as well. And he was a true Houdini. Once when I went into a store, I had to tie him up infront of the store. When I came back outside, he still st there in the same position sitting there, but had the leash all folded up and held it in his mouth, while wagging his tail. He had an audience, people were laughing at him. He generally was faster with his obedience without leash or collar. I'm happy that my youngest son and his family moved last year to a very remote area and their kids can grow up in a so much healthier environment there, just like my children could. 😊

Love that comment about chihuahuas and rottweilers being the same. I get so frustrated as a dog walker seeing people pick up their little dogs when my pack goes by, which is all medium to large dogs. I want to tell them: "All you are doing is giving power to your little dog by having it above mine and you are not helping it become the dog it should truly be."

@tomdavisofficial Sadly, I know of a case in my area where a mastiff ended up killing a Maltese unintentionally. The Maltese was unleashed and left the front lawn of its property to charge and bark at a woman walking her mastiff and husky perfectly side by side. From what I heard, the mastiff apparently just reached down, grabbed the Maltese by the collar and flung it casually back onto its front lawn where it died as it hit the ground from its neck snapping in mid-air. I never heard what happened after that but the owner of the mastiff was definitely not at fault because her dogs were leashed and walking calmly when they were charged.

Hey Tom and Larry. Thank you so much for your content, helping us so much with our dog. On the e-collar topic (abusing, banning), I think you make a great point, it is a tool that can be used to change a dog's life and give them freedom, safely, in a way that would otherwise not be possible (when used/introduced properly). Yet it can be used very poorly (much like any tools) and really mess a dog up. Would a good alternative to banning be to require some sort of licence in order to use such a tool? Basically requiring anyone buying one to go through some sort of basic training with a professional before they can buy/use one legally. Thank you again for all your content and keep up the great work!

Thank you guys so much for this - so eye opening and helpful even for current dog instructors doing classes of dogs. I know Larry Krohn did help us a lot with our 2 Dobes as far as the aggression in the home - that episode on Herc and Duke is a tear jerker that helped tremendously and kudos for giving the owner the credit - so true! Love being a life time learner. My current assistant is all gun ho on becoming a trainer, so of course fwded this podcast with both of you - all the tips, etc. Thank you again! I recently started sponsoring a shelter dog in our classes. They send a volunteer and a dog that needs a home. Volunteer is the same, dog may change depending on whether they were adopted or not yet. The local SPCA is loving it too. Hope that helps.

Maybe the solution could be you have dog trainers that are certified by the state to train people on proper e collar use. Then the person would receive a certificate allowing them to use it. Just a suggestion. I think it is a great tool in the right hands and terrible in the wrong. Definitely should not be banned completely

Talking about not watching negative content is so real. I love my area and explore it adventuring with my dog. I see tons of others out adventuring with their dogs as well. I love Mastiffs. I was keen get mine after years with family dogs in the early 2000's internet boom. Met a breeder and saw a litter and met two cane corso he had personally imported to breed next. Next dog for me was a corso. Then instagram and social media exploded. Everything for image, every one posing for the quick buck, never expected any soul to capture dogs into that kinda of mess. Worse than circus era animal abuse is social media spurned animal fads.

I wish I could go to the seminar but I’ve just had to spend over 6,000 pounds on stem cell therapy for my presa so there is no way I can’t afford to go 😢 hopefully next time your in London 😊

I understand what both of you are saying. Yes, were wrong about your ability to help, correct or stop those harmful trainers. Were hoping that because we are not trainers, you, being professionals who have a voice, can stop the abuse. Im sorry that weve done you harm.
