Overview of the mighty vfr800. Is it still relevant? Old but gold? or over the hill?
How does it compare in the current market?

The 5th gen is aging nicely and still relevant. My favorite model years are 2000-2001. Just wonder why SO many folks still do not realize that it is a true gem.

Yeah, had a 1200 and a couple of V-TEC 800’s over the years but I really do think this one is the sweet spot. Just because it’s old, doesn’t mean it isn’t still gold! It’s 3rd of the price of the latest crop of sports tourers, Doesn’t have the latest gadgets but do you need them!?… thanks for watching. 👌😎

Agreed! Think these bikes were over engineered really for their purpose, but they’re certainly standing the test of time Or perhaps just engineered properly! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! 😎

They are a brilliant piece of engineering aren’t they!? mechanically, probably over engineered for a road bike, but that’s testament to its reliability and longevity! thanks watching and taking the time to comment.

The VFR in all it's guises has been an incredible machine over the years. It makes plenty of horsepower, is smooth as silk generally and they are genenerally still an amazing motorcycle. Even the old VFR400's will still hold their own compared to modern stuff providing they have been looked after.

Yeah, I'll be honest, I really thought about another Sprint ST 1050 b before this. Yes it's got a bit more power but that's not always everything. It had character, but not like the Vfr's do. Having had the Sprint GT 1050 before this kind of made me decide on another VFR. They're just Great bikes and somewhat of a bargain now. Just because they're now out of sight or forgotten press headlines, doesnt make this era of bike a bad buy., But then they also wouldn't be doing their job if they weren't promoting the latest and greatest since sliced bread! This video was actually nearly called 'Forgotten Treasure'. Thanks for watching! 😁😎👍

Totally brilliant bikes, even at the age they now are. Mine is a yellow yr2000, lowly 20k miles, maxton rear shock and lots of other upgrades. I keep thinking of selling as it doesnt get very much use at all but struggle to make the effort to sell it. The rare occasion I ride it, makes me reflect on 20plus years of vfr ownership (have had a few.... ) and then theres the sound.... Its kind of cool (?) owning a true modern classic too. Think they will be worth a ton of money some day although not yet it appears. Terrific do it all machines. Ps I only ever put e5, 99 premium petrol in my bikes - they are too special to put in anything less other than rare occasion that I fill up where it isnt available - and then I top up again soonest with 99... 👍 In my experience all VFRs love a hard thrashing once warmed up correctly and ALWAYS use only very good quality engine oil (why wouldnt you !?) With all the work you did on yours, theres no reason that bike wont last til you quit in many years time ??

I bought a new Honda VFR 800 Crossrunner in 2013 , full pannier kit and the heart of the sports cruiser, to date i have ridden 40.000 kms with it 2 up and have just completed a 2700 km trip in our country South Africa, this bike just does everthing so effortlessly, 19 kms per liter, rode some beautiful mountain passes, long 100km stretches through the Karoo and this machine has not missed a beat.😊😊😊

That Sounds fantastic! South Africa isn't a place I've had the pleasure to visit yet but id love to and of course do the stereotypical and obligatory safari! Yeah, the Cross runner I haven't actually tried before but it really makes a lot of sense for road use, I find even the vfr is actually quite sporty. For the pot holed roads we have, that extra suspension travel and more upright riding position, makes alot of sense. Enjoy many more miles and thanks for watching and commenting. 👍😎😁

Beautiful bike mate I've got an 2007 RC46 with v-tec and I love it. I'm planning on a trip up the whiskey trail this summer. As for fueling my puppy I only use the e10 shit as an absolute emergency gallon to get me to some real v-power juice I always notice the lumpy effect the that e10 causes but once she blows that crap through she's back to being awesome. VFR's are true Honda excellence ( I envy your gear driven cams ) happy riding and keep her singing

Ah nice one! Yeah, I really liked the vtec's too when I had them, managed to get a set of statintune exhausts on the red one I had, they're like unicorn sh*t to get hold of now though as im sure you're aware. Still a great bike though but since my yellow one in 2000, just had to go for another 5th gen. You won't be disappointed with your run up here, brilliant roads and probably vfr country really given the variations in road surface! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, hopefully catch you up this way. 😎👍

I have a vfr750 rc36, it has stainless headers and a viper end can and was until a couple of weeks ago bloody loud! It's always had a flat spot at about 4.5 to 5k revs, but after fitting a db killer, it now revs cleanly right through the rev range and is much nicer to ride. 😊 Always fancied an 800 but never ridden one. Also got a 765rs like yours 😊.

Nice!! Yeah, I was quite tempted by a vfr750 too before this if I'm honest (my dad had a red one in 1995) always loved the similarity of that to the NR750 (dream bike)... Really love the look of the 8 spoke wheel from the 750 and looks much better than the standard one, they're great bikes with an epic sound track. Sounds good baffle out, but for road riding, I agree, it's a bit much! Nice to hear you have a 765RS 😎😁👍. I. Love that too for different reasons obviously and don't think there's actually that much difference in performance if you put them flat out side by side... But the vfr couldn't hold a candle to the 765 on a track. You could tour on it though if you wanted to! Of course it's Nice to have the luxury of both though. Thanks for watching!

Cant not like a Viffer, the V4 engine is sublime. Mine is a 2009 and its a silent missile when the Vtec kicks in. A Nitron rear shock combined with Andreani Evo fork cartridges has sorted the dated suspension and a bike I was considering selling is now a firm keeper. Did Le Mans MotoGP on her this year and she was simply faultless. Another good video, cheers

That sounds ace! Not had mine on track yet but id like to take it round for a laugh. I think it would be better suited to a longer smoother track like Donington though, Knockhill is closer but I think its weight would be a disadvantage there and cook the brakes a bit. That said, you never know and I’m no Valentino Rossi so I’m sure it would fine! Yeah, keep having notions of selling it but I wouldn’t get the money back I’ve invested and there’s something old school cool about it with bags of character i don’t think you get on a modern sports tourer so she’s not going anywhere! Thanks for watching!

Nice ride on a great bike. I had a 2006 VFR800 Vtec. These bikes are awesome. But the whine of those gear driven cams is music to my ears lol. And I think they are the most photogenic of bikes. And we all know they don't have all the gizmos of modern bikes. But these are a classic. And if I get another. Will be a cam version 😊. Just one question don't ever sell lol. 😅

Vfr is a super machine. Thinking of getting another one ie this model with the gear driven cams . I have the 1200x crosstourer so trying to justify a second bike. As you stated the vfr is 3rd of the price of your 1000gsx but the not 3x the price better than the vfr . Those bikes were built to last and the proof is in the pudding.

Yes I guess this is the best colour ever on any of the VFR range. Redline oxygen sensor kit delete maybe worth a shot. A firestorm rad fan, waterless coolant, a gear indicator does work well. Top brand Frame slider's. I guess with the 8 spoke back wheel it could well be the best bike to own there has been.

I had a red 98 FiW from 2015 to 2022 until I threw it down the road and broke every bit of plastic on it, so what do you do ?. You buy a blue 2002 Fi1 like yours, cos those VFR's are addictive. I may be naive, but I trust these bikes as they have never let me down even at 22 years old. Mine is a little scratched here and there but it runs like a dream. I think the later models are bit more picky when it comes to fuelling, the ECU expects the O2 sensors and PAIR valves in place to keep it smooth, starter valves need to be adjusted regularly too.

@@twistandgo3414From what I have read on many forums the ,4th 5th gen with gear driven cams can get well over 200thousend miles. Of course keeping up on valve clearance, oil changes + riding habits would have a lot to do with that. @@twistandgo3414 I purchased a CBR1100XX-2 last year 2002 plate and she is such an unbelieveable joy to ride. Fast, Smooth with incredible handling. I have been using E5 and she loves it - If I put E10 she runs so lumpy at low speeds around town and gets less mileage with E10, plus E10 sucks a lot more moisture out of the atmosphere so if you don't ride for a while E10 will get saturated with absorbed water.
