Turning off the breaker might be easier. Many electrical plugs for ovens are hard to get to, especially if the oven is already hot.

And that is a huge lie. I had a self clean oven...it goes to 900 degrees. You can stop it in the first minute. It takes a bit to go into clean mode. I have accidentally hit the self clean button on mine. Stop it right away. But when I was in my 20s I had a self clean oven go nuts. It went into self clean When I was baking a casserole. It blew up the casserole dish. Baked the food to the oven walls and door. And the oven floor was concave afterwards. It took me 3 months to get them to send me new stove. After I threatened to call consumer action at the TV station about nast customer services. I got the top of the line stove .

Self clean my apartment gladly welcomed as long as it not myself doing the cleaning

On ours it has a sliding lock that you have to engage or the self cleaning won't start.

My oven has a lock that is set by the self cleaning setting (actual setting on the dial, not just a button), but it gets reset if the setting is off and the oven is below safe(ish) temperature. So if I would accidentally set it, I can undo it and reset the oven to the right temperature (assuming it has not been to hot) and the door will be unlocked automatically at some point.

LOL! If the house seems chilly, I set bread dough in the windscreen of the car, or other times, in the turned-off oven to raise. More than once, I've forgotten it was in there and preheated the oven. Fortunately, my bowl is a large metal one; if I remember in time, I can pan the dough that's still raw and bake it properly. I tried once just baking it in the bowl-- #cooking fail.

I once found & made a banana bread recipe that called for roasting bananas in their peel. It just tasted like regular banana bread but it worked. You could have made banana bread unless they were inside a bag or something else that ruined them.

Not everyone is able to pull out a heavy stove themselves to get behind it to unplug.

Not everyone can unplug the oven without pulling oven out. In my apt the oven is not plugged in to anywhere where its reachable unless pulling out and then getting back behind oven. Mine if you do self clean you just press cancel.

I've had something similar to that happen at one of my past jobs, except it was metallic material on the paper plate that I put in the microwave. I'm glad that I quickly took the paper plate out of the microwave once it started to burn.

@@elizabethbingham9899 similar mistake for me... my mil had teacups with gold trim and I put it in microwave to heat up water and sparks and snap/popping sounds came from microwave. Scary 🤣

I tried to soften a jar of peanut butter that had been in the fridge and I didn't notice there was a tiny bit of foil on the rim and it started crackling in the microwave.😳

Maybe because many ovens you have to try and pull the whole thing out first to get behind and unplug and its not easy for everyone to do themselves.

@@xxviciousbeautyxx that's ridiculous. In 3 hours surely they could have pulled it out or gotten help. (for a potential fire hazard, you can even call 911 and have the fire department come out) They're lucky their house did not burn down. They could have and should have unplugged it.

I don't mean to be negative, just a different opinion: my favorite thing about this clip is the fact that Higgins isn't in it. He's the only thing I don't like about the show. I'm sure he's a good person, I just find his style of comedy annoying. People like different things, apparently many people don't even think Jimmy is funny...

I can press cancel too but I honestly would not try and pull the stove out while it's at a high temp to try and unplug. In my apt its almost impossible for to get your hands anywhere to try and pull out by yourself.
