Too bad I was not patient enough. Bought and sold the X2D as the lens was not available and the 80 was just too heavy to bring along travel. Great to see the system come to life!

I really like the style of your subjects, especially the athletic one in jeans. Nice contrast from typical model shots. Im waiting on the 90 as I have the older version and placing priority on a 28P but you are making we question that strategy Matt!

@@mattgranger Oooooo it didn’t have the face detect yet but the rep said it was coming. More of just testing the body/lens, I was really impressed with the package, I am $13,499 short to afford it. Lol

Hello Mat, They also fixed the Live View track when tethering with wifi it work very well Now. Yes you are so right the X2D is a delight to use.

I'd love an X2D, and I respect how they pitch it to the market place with no misconceptions as to what it's for (Leica do the same). Hasselblad have been clever in not trying to market the X2D as a jack of all trades to compete with FF cameras... Like Fuji have wrongly done with the GFX100. They make it clear that it's designed for deliberate, composed, single-shot shooting whereas Fuji claim 'fast readout speeds', claim it can be an excellent hybrid video camera, that it can be used for wildlife, sport etc and it just causes the camera to be criticised and compared to much quicker and more accomplished full frame cameras... And reviews tend to, needlessly, be quite negative focusing on what it can't do. There's definitely a key lesson in marketing and focused product development there. Hasselblad do a great job. Excellent product design. Always appreciate the content, Matt!

Hasselblad’s have never been about speed and Fuji is doing fine as a fast “for a medium format” camera.

Matt, curious… you noted the color tones were amazing. However, unless I missed it, I didn’t hear if you’re using an auto, preset, or custom white balance during the shoot, or if you’re using color correction in post. Beautifully produced video, again, sir.

Brilliant video, I thought I saw a small flash on camera or was it a Flash trigger, which models of either did you use? With such a high dynamic range is it necessary to use the off camera flash trick of underexposing the background a little, then adding flash to make the image pop.

It's so amazing to know that medium format lenses are lighter and not bigger than full frame lenses. (but at a cost of course.) 90 on mf is like 71 on full frame..

Seems like eyes. Consistently in focus, even in close ups

@@mattgranger I have seen sample photos made with the newest firmware and saw that focus point is the face, not the eye. Face tracking is not eye tracking,

Hi Matt, thank you for this review. I have, and like the 80/1.9 on my X2D. The 90/2.5 offers a clear weight, size, and autofocus advantage it would seem, and the 10mm focal length difference may well offset the speed advantage of the 80 when shallow DOF desired. So my question is - does the 80 have anything over this 90 in your view?

The 80 will have a shallower DOF. It will come down to which focal length works for you - for me I prefer the 90 - for the reasons you stated. 👍🏼

EVF slow? I wonder if you could comment on the reactiveness of EVF? How long does it take for an image to appear in EVF when you put your eyes on viewfinder?

Were all/most the portraits in this video shot with Face AF? How confident are you, particularly with closer up headshots, that the eye (and not nose or eyelash) will be the most in focused point in the photo when using Face AF?

Yes all were using face detect. It works really well. I had Very few that didn’t have the eye correctly in focus.

Matt I've a question about monochrome output, if shooting in black and white, which I do, when the RAW images go to Phocus are they opened in monochrome. I'm guessing that the evf and rear screen show monochrome at the taking stage. Cheers from a wintery Staffordshire soon be Christmas, wish you a happy one and a good 2024.

All 90mm Hasselblad V reviews on youtube came online 17 hours ago from all reviewers. So it means that they all are paid, where is a disclaimer?

Thanks for the comment. My video does include a paid content disclosure in video and in description. FYI though, the timing doesn’t mean they are all sponsored. New products have an embargo time when any content can go live. When I get early access to an independent review, it still usually goes live at the same time.

@@mattgranger The lens was announced 07.09.2022, started shipping ~ 17 of November 2023, there was no embargo as it was already an announced product. The fact that 7 reviewers release their "independent" reviews on the same day at the same time is just ridiculous

i updated mine, for sure the face detect works great, ...but it seems i can t use my canon lenses with techart adapter anymore, initialzing lenses....and no way to shoot :/ so for people using adapting lenses, give a try after this update

That Infinity point at the manual focus lens doesn't align to the pointer, is it early model defection or its design that way? Is the rest of the manual focus marking accurate at all too?

Depends what you’re doing. For flash work, overpowering ambient, this is practically the same results as a global shutter… with 4 times the resolution.

that would matter if you did not want to use leaf shutter lenses or you wanted to shoot video of fast action... neither of these two things road blocks that would make sense because of what you CAN do with the systems native lens options. Video ... not a thing with this camera.

I tried the Hasselblad camera. Matt uses, beautiful images, but the horrid focus had to keep switching to manual, and low light focusing is a disaster. This camera suits the studio, but that's it, my second problem. It kept freezing, and I had to keep taking the battery out.hopfully the next edition will sort out all the problems but don't buy now folks

wow the X2D? Which lens was in use, out of curiosity as I noticed that if I ever used auto focus (which I'm not a fan of on any camera to be honest) the older vs v lenses behave quite differently. Interesting about freezing though as I had not had that experience with its the X2D though I did have it from launch. Focus software mobil on the other hand did have an issue with connecting at times but that's a different issue related to that app.
