I often assumed that scenario took place right after the chunnin exam test, but definitely before the actual exams (this mission for the scrolls, Orochimaru, the 1v1 afterward, Gaara) seeing as Sasuke is wearing his original outfit, and doesn't posses his curse mark yet. But I understand why people have a hard time believing the continuity because of Lee and Neji in the episode and knowing we weren't introduced to them until the chunin arc.

Found his father dead after suicide at the age of 6, and gets shamed by the village for the actions of his father. Was put into ANBU at 13(which clearly had a negative effect on him). Lost his sensei and his sensei's wife by 14 after a demon attached his home. Learned his savor and childhood hero was in fact alive the whole time and became a mass theorist who was this close to destroying the world and did in fact start a world war. And let's not forget, Kakashi has been fighting in wars since he was *6*. Just saying, It's pretty damn impossible to let go I would imagine. Anyone would be heavily traumatized, and you can't just let go of that... But I think Kakashi has done amazingly at being able to live through that, and eventually get a pleasant life and find some peace. The trauma is still there of course.

@@kunilsen2519He has to let go at some point, and understand that everything that happened or he did was not entirely his fault, especially the death of kushina and Minato,that's why he's still finding it hard to connect with other people, & sees himself as less deserving. He may have lost many friends, but there was 1 friend who had his back and who was willing to drag him out of that hell every single time he felt like he was no longer human, his name was Guy, he realized that way too late, just like he realized his friendship with him and obito. He can't find love cos he's never had a person he had a connection with cause the last person who once conffesed to him disregarded her feelings to honor a dead friend that he never thought of as a friend until the last minute. He's the one intentionally holdin himself back just cause he doesn't want to let go of those memories cos it gave him a hard lesson in life but that, doesn't mean he must stop living it. The only thing that keeps him active is is looking for young shinobis who're jerks like him & change them at a young age just like he did to boruto.

@@leedlamini3935 I'm not completely disagreeing with you. But when you are scared for life, "letting go" isn't something you can just do. I agree, he is holding himself back IF its love he wants. But that is what happens when your childhood was fucked over, or even just one traumatic incident. First, he must find self-love, and that takes time. For some it takes a lifetime. And Guy is awesome and has been his friend from the start, and Kakashi has clearly learned that a long tome ago by this point. He and Guy has been bff's for years by now. Wich I love, and it also shows how (slowly) Kakashi has learned to connect with people. By this point in the series, Kakashi has deep and friendly connections with a lot of people.

Kakashi was able to get closure on that which most haunted him (Obito's supposed death) and enjoy a relatively stress-free retirement; it makes sense that he'd age fairly well.

Maybe it would be more great for Houki to grow naturally since he didn't know Kakashi's whole Biography and his life that much depth as we watchers know so ig it would take time but I think Houki would be really interesting character in future
