A common theory that I hear a lot is that the song is about a girl who’s singing to a boy that either can’t hear her or ignores her. (“Are the sounds reaching your ears Romeo, Romeo?”) There’s another one that I kinda like that says Miku’s singing to us, the viewer/listener.

Lucky is the person who found this (by description or title) after losing it for a while!! I just wanted to put my 2 cents in here a about what I think the song means I haven't decoded all the lyrics, but I have a feeling it has something to do with the protagonist dying or the supposed other person they are referring to. The lyrics constantly reference leaving or traveling and following something like a whisper or music. This song is most like an analogy or metaphor regarding death, it also reminds of some kind of piece of poetry. The country the song is referring is the afterlife Gate, faraway country, eyes growing dull, people of this boring country. I could be overlooking this, but I found this interesting. so, I have two theories. One is the protagonist misses someone. Describing either them/their lover for themself in the afterlife with many allusions to death including the skeleton's depiction; wanting to meet in the afterlife. Two, "death" is not literal, and could describe a separation, or breakup with hyperbolic imagery (their relationship is "dead", and empty) edit: gonna finish this 2 years later cuz why not
