In this video we venture back to the East End of London of the late 19th and early 20th centuries to confront a killer who was far more prolific than Jack the Ripper ever was.
This ruthless and silent assassin did not confine itself to one class or gender of victim. Indeed, anyone could fall prey to it - mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters.
An actor, a chimney sweep, a boxer, were all amongst its victims, and yet, despite his tally of tragedy running into the hundreds, possibly even thousands, few newspapers paid any attention to it, and today, the names of his victims are often overshadowed by the ubiquity of Jack the Ripper.
