@@ShaneAlanGower The songs on this album seemed extremely personal to him. I think it's not a coincidence that there's so many songs talking about relationship struggles, loosing someone etc. His girlfriend/fiancee lived in Italy and the long distance must have really taken a toll on them- That's what the chorus talks about imo- I'll cancel your name from each of my songs- e.g. "Coraline" is about her. I never truly gave a shit, when you didn't come along (you should react to the official lyric video for "Timezone", it's literally about it). They ultimately broke up a few months later, after being together for 6 years.

I'm sure our lives would have been way different if he was still about. But it is what it is. Can't change what life has dealt us. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend 💜

I believe you have an excellent point! Each song may have a face value meaning of its own, but I also think there’s an overarching theme of relationships throughout Rush; the highs of a new relationship (eg Honey, The Driver), the depth of feeling while being in love (eg If not for you), the difficulty in extraction from a failing relationship (eg Trastevere, Off my Face, The Loneliest), and also a few dysfunctional relationships (eg Bla Bla Bla, Read Your Diary, Mark Chapman)🫶🏻

@@mithril4723 hi, it's me, answering from another account XD yeah, with someone like Damiano, who uses writing lyrics as a form of therapy, you can basically see what he's going through at the moment. And it's obvious that many songs are about Giorgia (someone said that If not for you was about his mother, but I doubt it, since he said it's a romantic song). Interestingly, I didn't realise it at the moment, but weren't Trastevere, Valentine, Off my face etc. released much later? It makes even more sense, they're literally like processing a break up. For me Trastevere is like an epilogue to Timezone: he was trying to balance career and relationship, but in the end this "pact" that he made- getting talent and succes in exchange for his heart and life- did take what was the most important to him. Loneliest was somewhat connected to Giorgia as well, in the sense that she was supposed to come visit but couldn't and he was kinda in a dark place. Mark Chapman was about some pseudo fans stalking them and sending things to their house.

@@leno_o17 Yep, exactly. The breakup songs you mentioned did come later (but so did Honey and The Driver). I personally sometimes wondered if The Loneliest was something Damiano wrote immediately after he and G broke up, because we are obviously not privy to the exact timelines. But that’s probably a stretch. Il Dono Della Vita may be about the relationship with his mother, in part (or critics in other parts) and Trastevere is an enigmatic combination of pact with the devil/recording industry and breakup song. It’s always nice to speak to someone else who wants to delve deeper into the meaning of the lyrics - although I am also aware that the lyrics might all be just be made up. cf Kool Kids 😂

@@mithril4723 well, I'm of the opinion that no lyrics are really made up, even if they're not one hundred percent true. He talks shit in Cool Kids and Mamma Mia, but it's still "their" shit, you know, the inside jokes etc. 😂 i'm generally a lyrics freak, but I think with someone like him it's safe to assume that they reflect his real life, he usually confirms it plus he's so transparent in the interviews that it's easy to connect the dots. I would say the loneliest is just a reflection of the long distance struggles and solitude, like he said. He was saying for a long time that Timezone is his favourite song on the album (long after the loneliest was released) and he wouldn't say this if they've already broken up. And you could see the difference in his behavior when the break up actually happened. He seemed pretty angry in the first half of 2023, like there was something going on, but after the break up I think he changed a lot. He looked pretty bad and tired in some interviews from autumn.
