Buying a clone that is 85-95% accurate and costs only 10% of the original is a no brainer for me. If it smells good, I’m buying it 🤷🏾‍♂️

Indeed and in some cases the Clones smell and perform better than the Original. OG= Last 5 hours on Skin Clone= Last 9 hours on Skin. And project 2 feet further.

True. Thou usually the $400 would be getting 150ml bottle. So there's ways to get the real thing for cheaper and only use it for very special occasions. While use it's Clone everyday.

I recently over the past couple years have got into fragrances with my two sons and to be honest having something that smells good and affordable is a great thing when you have to buy multiple of the same fragrance

I’ve bought several fragrances from $10 all the way to $500. Some of these clones are 🔥 and I always search for a clone before buying the original. Not everyone but a lot of people buy the OG and shxt on clones strictly because posting the OG online is a status symbol.

Personally my go to for clones is Parfum Parlour, they are amazing, I don't mind buying an original bc they invested the time and money into perfecting their scent, however sometimes I buy the clone to wear around the house when I don't want to use the original. For example their Absolu Aventus clone is spot on and so good and last all day. I want the original absolu but I don't want to spend the $400 to get it lol. Thanks for the video.

Clones of discontinued fragrances are awsome. Having a spot on clone of an original scent is cool to go HAM with and preserve the original bottle. But there's something special about owning a great original fragrance. Everything from the presentation, to the vision and artistry of the perfurmers work is something to be appreciated. Most of us have blown $400 in a month that just vanished into thin air. If you love a fragrance save up and gift yourself with it.

Lots of great clones out there. For example, Royal Equestrian from Alexandria Fragrances is just as good as Parfum De Marly Layton to me. I mean it is fantastic. I have a lot of originals and a lot of clones and in many cases the clones are just good and better in some cases.

O have a friend who does the same thing w/Js.. clones for running errands, original for getting grown & personal or if a specific event warrants a particular scent.. It varies for me. In some cases I'm happy with having the clone over the original, in other cases, having the clone led to me buying the original because I loved the DNA so much that I wanted to experience it in OG form (Virgin Island Water for example which is now a top 5 in my collection), and in other instances, it's the original over everything. I will say though that clones are a great option if you wanted a fragrance that's discontinued. When I heard L'Homme Ideal Cologne, Gucci Pour Homme II, and 1 Million Prive were discontinued I went out and got clones of each since I owned & loved those originals and realized I won't be able to have them again any other way.

I grew up poor and my parents worked hard to provide me with the essentials. So while I might be able to burn a couple or few $100 bills on a single fragrance, my parents would probably spin in their graves. (God, rest their souls.) Bowtie has a precise nose, and I’m sure he can discern differences between originals and clones. As a longtime chemist I could probably do the same with some practice given that scent is an essential skill in my profession. The point isn’t whether we can ascertain differences but, rather, whether those differences justify the 10-to-1 price differential between the two. So far in my life I have not been able to afford to buy the stocks of luxury goods companies such as LVMH, Richemont and Kering. But if I could, then maybe I too would stress the quality and originality of their luxury goods (including fragrances), badger about the high cost of an absolute or extract, and continually express the sentiment that fragrances are a form of art. As it is, however, I find top-shelf fragrance like high fashion to be something of a scam for the ages…even though I enjoy the luxury that clones and an occasional decant can provide me. By analogy I’m certain that a Porsche is better than my GM car even though I’m not likely to ever own one, because the value proposition just isn’t there for me. Even if I could afford a Porsche, there is enough misery and uncertainty in this world that I feel my (admittedly imaginary) money could be applied to far better uses. Ditto for top-shelf fragrances, with all due respect to those who prefer them and have the good fortune of being able to choose them.

It's just like anything. If you are a real fragrance connoisseur you buy the real thing because you appreciate the differences in the quality. I know for me many clones smell good but to me they are not the same and for the most part they don't give you the same longevity and performance. When you smell and understand the quality you always want that in your fragrance.

I don’t mind buying the original fragrance if they were set at reasonable prices. If a clonehouse is charging $30 or something and the original is 100 or maybe 125 I’m going to buy the original. However, I’m not paying $200 or more for these overpriced fragrances.

These companies make millions and sometimes billions of dollars. Most niche/high end perfumery is sold at a huge markup over what its worth. Most of my 50 bottle collection is genuine niche, rare discontinued designer releases etc and I enjoy it. I know that my little 50ml Amouage is not worth what they charge for it at retail though. They know they overcharge by a lot for the name and prestige. Inflation is decimating the middle class. They can't afford the insane prices, so they buy clones. The original companies are fine. They are fabulously wealthy. They could lower their prices to something more reasonable, but they don't. They're in the luxury business.

Yes, high fragrance prices on the order of $1000 per pound for something that is mostly water and denatured alcohol. Do the math. Even clone prices are on the order of $100 per pound, so designer and especially niche fragrance prices are just insanely high no matter what quality essential oils they are using.
