Owen is so right. I have been "homeless" before, living in my van with my wife and dog, driving up and down the California coast, hiking every day, going to the gym and beach every day, and eating large amounts of fruit while watching the sunset every night, and I felt richer than when I was making bank working for Lex Friedman as his video editor. (No shade to Lex.) I am now in the process of balancing those two lifestyles, but those memories I made, are worth more to me than gold.

Assuming this is all true... When you were homeless living in a van why were you wasting your time hiking every day, going to the beach every day, watching the sunset every night? Wasn't that time suppose to be spent making money, considering you had video editing skills. What made you think it was a better idea to spend your time gallivanting as a homeless man instead of focusing on making bank for you and your wife? I don't understand your thinking. You said you felt richer. Surely it's better to BE richer rather than "feel" richer

Yes and no. One thing I liked in Art Classes is that I was given assignments, and those assignments had certain criteria, and those would spawn ideas I wouldn't have otherwise had. That is conducive. It catalyzes ideas. Just having a shop to fill with things you want to make, just because the shelf space is there. And then you fill the shelves hoping people will enjoy the items and then fill your bank account. What happens if nobody buys anything? What happens if just having an empty shelf isn't providing the inspiration or motivation to make creating a thing even better enjoyable? Yes the sheer act of creating is enjoyable and enriching. But eventually just the joy of creating isn't enough anymore. You need to eat. You need assignments, either from necessities of life, or having a customer that's wants a particular ask. Don't get me wrong, creating is awesome and I think it enhances the quality of a person's life in multiple ways. But sadly, just creating for the sake of creating isn't enough to carry you through the challenges of this life. It can definitely help, but so many times where I thought "oh if I just focus on this main thing everything else should just fall into place and come right along" but then it doesn't, then you have to readjust your thinking....

OG Owen follower here - this talk was possibly the best stuff I've seen from Owen in his whole career. To be honest, I found the first half to be quite elementary and was about closing the video, but around half way somewhere he switches it up and starts laying down some really powerful stuff. It feels like he's transitioning beautifully into a great spiritual teacher, here you can find many moments of truth sharing and pure positivity and encouragement. Owen I've always resonated with you, and feel like your best work is just starting. Hope to hang soon

At his core, he just wants to make people happy. At first, it was how he got happy, by getting laid. But then, we want more and he's evolved into that. It's less superficial, but still powerful. So while his early days are sketchy AF, you can't blame a guy for trying to make the world a better place in his own way. He's controversial because he's bizarre. I've seen conman, and evil - and this guy ain't it.

2:14:47 I have gone to bars for parties when I was younger and for Meetup events in my 30's and "improved my social skills." It was definitely out of my comfort zone, but again, those are not environments that suit me, and the skills from those interactions did not elevate my quality of life. They were a means to an end of meeting more people, but once the friendships I made ran their course as others were facing their own toxic life stressors and our friend group imploded, I went back to focusing on my own projects and work. Thankfully, I was meeting people in other environments as well, including volunteering and online courses, so I developed a greater tolerance for being around large groups of people for prolonged periods of time in a more relaxed state, but ultimately, it's not something I want to jump back into in crowded spaces with loud music and the smell of booze on people's breath. There are other venues that suit my interests more.

After watching the whole thing, I think that it resonates more with people who don't fit neatly into societal molds. I have done solo road trips out of my old minivan, driven across the US because I preferred the scenic route over a turbulent flight with TSA delays, and have couchsurfed around different countries in central Europe for 3 months during a self-funded 14-month sabbatical. These are not things most people would consider doing, and I get the same impression from your video, so I am not sure how much of an impact that type of message would have on general audiences. That being said, all of the national parks are next on my list.😁

1:33:22 A big issue that is not addressed here is that a lot of people don't actually know what they ultimately want. It's easy to identify experiences we don't desire to explore further, but a grammatical antonym does not give a clear vision or direction to move toward. For instance, suppose the example is "I don't want to be broke." Is the new direction "I want to be filthy rich and a trillionaire and to be my own boss"? Or is it "I want a stable job with an above market wage and guaranteed job security"? Or "I want to marry someone who pays my bills for me so that I don't have to work"? What if they all sound the same to you, and then as you are not compelled in any one direction, you don't do anything drastically different from before. Without clarity in direction, it's easy not to take any decisive action, and oftentimes, there is simply no clear goal or destination that we are like "Yes! That's exactly what I wanted and couldn't put into words. I will stop at nothing to get there and do that."

1:07:33 Oh, I had similar experiences when driving through Utah. I could see parts of Bryce Canyon National Park from the overlooks on the highway. I was driving back to Columbus, OH by myself after a Las Vegas trip with my friend group at the time ended chaotically, lol. The GPS kept taking me into the Rocky Mountains for some reason, and I relented. It was sublime, and a transcendent experience. The bare earth was so colorful and vibrant, even without the exuberance of life. You could see mountains and desert basins, snow and sand, and a vast brilliant blue sky as dawn progressed. I was so grateful to be alive and to be born in North America and to be born on this planet. I have had other experiences like that in nature, but this is ultimately hippy talk. Most people don't care about any of that, lol. 🤣

@@sexywarriorwomen Oh, for sure, I know the beauty and transformative power of being in nature for all aspects of our health. As one of the mentors in a yoga nidra program I completed shared with us, we are of nature. It replenishes us mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Each biome of Earth has the potential to inspire us and fill us with serenity and awe, as long as we take proper precautions, lol. Again, it's hippy talk in the sense that most humans will have that go in one ear, and out the other. I know so many people who don't like hiking, don't like parks, mountains, or beaches, prefer to play video games all day, don't want to ruin their make-up with sweat, prefer to go shopping or to the club, etc. Even among those who feel the beneficial impact of maintaining a regular connection with nature, most spend their time indoors. 🤷‍♂️

@letsdomath1750 13 күн бұрын
2:20:55 I agree with this deeply. You can experience joy and happiness for most of your days, but that is a very intentional and conscious practice. That being said, being happy does not translate to traditional forms of success, nor does it mean establishing a vast network of social connections. Ascetics and monks and even very poor fishermen can be some of the happiest people, but that's not what everyone desires from life. Some people can be fulfilled with meditating, being out in nature all of the time, mastering their craft, providing the very essentials for their families, and living a life of service. That is not most people, though.

Things that "feel good" are simply habits that your brain has associated as pleasure because of the dopamine release. I'm not anti-gaming per say. But. That being said, if you don't like skiing, that too is fine. You can do other things that are fun. Moreover, I would not have aimed to overdo it and get an ACL injury. If you really need to be hyperstimulated and enjoying every moment, there are ways to do that. Everyone thinks they need a ton of money in retirement because they're going to travel and host parties and do all sorts of fun activities with all of their free time. The reality is most people that are 70+ just want to stay in there comfort bubble. Lay in bed. Watch TV. You won't even care about food. You'll rather just eat a rice cake if it means 0 effort and 2 minutes of bother so you can get back to lounging around and vegging out and keeping close to your own bathroom and creature comforts. You'll want to sell your house simply because you jsut don't feel like going up and down a flight of stairs. Stay in your bathrobe all day. Sit out on the porch and just people watch. At most old people will venture out around 9:30 in the morning to get their morning coffee for 15 minutes cause it makes them feel like they got out of the house and did something for the day. You don't need a million dollars to live like that. At most you'll need your rent money, med insurance bill and like 600 bucks for food.

I love most of your stuff but another idea is that perhaps your foundation was not as hard so it yielded a level of weakness that someone who never even thought about it. My foundation was extremely hard, later went through chemo, radiation, blindness not able to walk, talk of see then my wife left… Not one day have I thought of taking myself out the game. I’m a top school educator and self taught trader. My foundation yielded the idea that shit simply one day will get better and it always has. If the time ever comes that it doesn’t I will never know because I’m gonna keep going until it’s over. I’m not unintelligent for that, the odds are in your favor if you simply keep pushing.

Thank you bro! I'm SO sorry you experienced that. That's completely insane. I hope you're doing every natural thing you can do to make sure it doesn't come back, as well as what do with doctors. Re: contemplating if you'd end it or not, what I meant was that I think most people just putter along in a daze, whereas I have the advantage of saying "I'd honestly rather be dead than live another day like this" which then MOTIVATES me. I think most people actually wish they were dead so try to NUMB it with the trappings of modern society, rather than just admitting "this is honestly a fate worse than death" and then FIXING it. -Owen

49:42 Walmart is an excellent marketer…. They have some of the best real estate in just about every city and are known by 100% of the population. That’s marketing, I get how they might not have the best commercials- but their commercials don’t have to sell. People go there regardless. So I guess it depends on your definition of marketing because they do dominant their market…. Anyways good info - just wanted to point that out

It can be hard if there is a lot of corruption and few resources, but if you keep looking for opportunities and be creative you can find something. If you find a popular product, hear the complaints about it and make your own version that is better/higher quality (you fixed the thing people were complaining about) to sell that is an option.

I disagree with a lot of this, but I also love Owen’s energy and he’s definitely a good example of success and an excellent teacher. Herb doesn’t give you psychosis, so I would not recommend meth over it for example. Herb may actually have benefits used in a medicinal way and not abused. Meth is neurotoxic, gives you limp dick and destroys your liver.

20:24 Yeah, these are very different individual tendencies. People who prone to being stuck at home all day playing video games and engage with graphic and explicit titillating material are indulging escapism. Part of them may feel that they don't have access to what they wish to experience in life and that it may not exist in the physical world, so why go outside to be disappointed. It's not something you can try because your belief system is not at all like that. I prefer being out in nature and visiting national parks, but I know very few people who are excited enough to actually make those trips. Many people hate traveling at all.

"They hide the best stuff by capturing it" Yep ........so true. I focus upon being a "nobody" How many times have you heard ....."Nobody" can do that. I hear that a lot from stock brokers. Soooo just for grins I gave away a process that has not had a losing trade in over 90 years trading the S&P 500. ........to the San Diego Traders Group in November 2023. The formula said up we go at that time and within 6 months that S&P was way up higher. Owen's ideas for how to rent a mansion for free work ..........if you have or develop the contacts and then manage the mansion rental. When it comes to money I look for stuff that is more passive.

What floozy. Advice: get a 80k a month house and pay for it with videos! Reality: nobody will rent you a 80k house without being able to pay cash for the entire lease. Even if you can do this you wont sell many videos and you will be broke. Why? Because your house is an investment you need a return on competing with people who own these houses by other means and will always be substantially cheaper. I could go on and on ripping him apart but there is no point and there is tons of idiots out there spouting pipe dreams.
