Have you been to this area? - Port Louis Mauritius

We walk around a part of Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, that we never visit. Between the Line Barracks and the company gardens is a place full of history and modern skyscrapers, the contrast of this area is astonishing. We found a host of rare gems and got completely soaked in the rain, but it was totally worth it. We did run into some parking issues, but we solved it in, what can only be called, a brilliant fashion.

This was where my grand mother stayed before. Mère Barthelemy street next to Immaculée church , Saint George hotel and France embassy.

Been there last Sunday 6th March, as I went out for a walk. I thought I would never make it as it was raining earlier. At 18:00, there's L'Esplanade du pouce. I guess it was closed. It's a good place to eat, especially the chinese cuisine right inside. I went there because of the many dim sum that you can get.

Thanks a bunch for last time I was in Mtius Edith Cavell Court was under construction and now you gave me a wonderful update. Mohogony also I didn't know Saint-George quarter is among the coolest place in this hot city. I only go to Port Louis when I don't have the choice for admin purposes but once I'm done with my paperwork, I go around St George cathedral to buy a nice lunch coz there are great restaurants around. You need to push the Cathedral's door coz the clerics use to let the doors closed but they are unlocked with people praying inside. The tall buildings and Jardin de la Cie are also great spots to find some shade. Walking around Port Louis or any Mauritian city under the rain is one of the best feelings I have ever experienced 19:05 - Nice lad giving thumbs up

Thanks for the interesting video's. We went there in February for 15 days to open our bank accounts etc. Also spent a day or so with the last Cyclone. Was not so bad luckily! We missed Batsiriai. Returning on a Premium Visa and Retirement Non citizen Permit. Loved our time there.

The guy selling ice cream vonacorona, is the best ice cream in town. you just missed history! He used to sell ice cream back when i was 6 years old. im now in my mid 40s. His ice cream is the best

Slight correction, the church at 8:08 is "Eglise Immaculée" (not St Georges) named after Virgin Mary. in the mid 1960s, a cyclone caused the roof to cave in but the statue of Virgin Mary was untouched and the story went around that Jesus spared his mother; I used to be an altar boy there. Love watching your videos, cheers.

Back in the 1960s, there were French colonial type, créole style houses all along St George road with front walled gardens full of flowers and shrubs. As a little kid, I knew that area well. Now it looks like a ghetto.

@@BryanDiscoversWorld Joseph Conrad once visited Mauritius. He wrote a short story relating to that area. I think it is in a book called 'twixt land and sea which contains about four stories. Very beautiful

Brilliant video, I also love the old stones colonial buildings and I am glad that they are rejuvenating the stone building, which is very expensive to do. Are they moving the landmark port louis central market somewhere else? 🇬🇧 🇬🇧

The current Central market shall stay where it is and the revamp has been validated. However, the new Urban Terminal shall also allow vegie and textile hawkers sell their product. There will also be a hyper market

Port louis is full of these lovely French buildings from the colonial era. The rich people moved to the interior cooler central plateau to escape the malaria epidemics.

Rich white french people moved to curepipe in summer and move back to the coastal area during the Mauritius winter....
